dance

(Among the First Nations, blankets were an important part of their culture, handwoven ones to wear, waterproofed ones to cover tepee frames, patterned ones for ceremonial gifts, and button-decorated ones for dances. I have a child-size button blanket given to me by the mother of a Haida friend I danced with in a July 1 concert long ago, me in my Highland dance outfit and my friend in her blanket with bells on her moccasins. My mother gave my friend a plaid -- the Highland shoulder shawl -- in the McIntosh tartan.)

feathers

(Ballroom dancers wear a lot of marabou feathers (I don't), which they shed during competitions. As the sweepers push their big brooms around the floor between events, the announcer always makes the same old joke that "somebody was moulting".)

running (when I was a child, we used to run as fast as we could to make a kite catch the wind and fly high ... )

marathon

[I never could get a kite to fly. :( Can't make a yoyo bounce back either. It drops on its string and then it just hangs there. My brothers finally gave up trying to teach me.]
