Re: re: worst tv shows ever

rgirl, I dunno about that attention span thing applying to everyone. The soaps are still on. And it still probably takes weeks to make one batch of jelly on a soap opera.

4dog, I remember a lot of those shows!
Sky King - I don't remember it on radio, <span style="color:green;font-family:helvetica;font-size:medium;">but watched every wk as a kid.</span>The Lone Ranger - much better as a radio serial, <span style="color:green;font-family:helvetica;font-size:medium;">but still way
better than a lot of the others listed already.</span>The Cisco Kid - you want to talk about sterotypes....!
<span style="color:green;font-family:helvetica;font-size:medium;">As a kid, who knew about stereotype, eh Pancho?</span>
The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis - need I say more.
<span style="color:green;font-family:helvetica;font-size:medium;"> Now, now now. Didn't you like Maynard G. Krebs?
The show had some funny moments,if you were young
enough to appreciate</span>.

Ben Casey - Vince Edwards should have shaved the back of his hands if he was supposed to be a surgeon.
<span style="color:green;font-family:helvetica;font-size:medium;">Yes, and the Man, Woman, Birth, Death, Infinity was way
too much. Plus it made a fad for hospital scrubs. Plus
in the way of that era of neurosurgery, nearly all the
patients died. Plus wasn't the old doctor, formerly Gunga
Din from b&w movie days? If not, he sure looked like it
and it was always hard to forget it.</span>

Re: re: worst tv shows ever

Good eye dpp.

Yes Sam Jaffe played Gunga Din, in fact he played the High Lama in Lost Horizon as well. And of course you will remember him in Ben Hur as Simonides. He played a Doctor in the Asphalt Jungle, a role for which he was nominated a Best Supporting Actor award and won a Venice Film Festival award.

Sam Jaffe's second wife, Bettye Ackerman, played Dr Maggie Graham on the show for the 1961 season.
Oh and by the way, his character's name on Ben Casey was Dr Zorba.

Re: Worst TV Shows Ever Made. . .

Oh God, the Brady Bunch Variety Show...it was so bad that Eve Plumb, the original Jan, wouldn't sign on and they put in a substitute Jan!!! There were several shows like that, trying to capitalize on the popularity of "Donny and Marie." Anyone remember the Hudson Brothers? They were at least cute and somewhat funny. The oldest, Bill, is actually the father of Kate Hudson, although they aren't close. (Another has-been Dad who came out of the woodwork when the kid becomes famous).

Other unbelievably bad shows:

Mr. T and Tina
The Pruitt's of Southampton (with Phyllis Diller)
The Ropers (WHY do networks think they can spin off every funny character into their own show--it doesn't work most of the time).
Rhoda (How to make Valerie Harper's character uninteresting--marry her off!!!)

Love Boat fits into its own category of "so bad, its good." I still love watching the repeats for the Farrah hairdo's, tacky polyester gowns and bad acting. Gavin MacLeod was so wonderful as Murray on MTM, and so AWFUL as Captain Stuebing. And then there was sweet, perky Julie...much of whose "perk" came from the nose candy.

Re: Worst TV Shows Ever Made. . .

I forgot "The Love Boat, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and worst tv game show - "The Weakest Link."

Re: Worst TV Shows Ever Made. . .

Some more gems from the vault:

Three's A Crowd - the mutation of Three's Company where the two bimbos he lived with moved out because Jack and Little Jack fell in love.

Momma's Family - As much as I loved Eunice, Ma, & Ed on the Carol Burnett Show, they should have stashed Momma away in some retirement home in Montana.

Punky Brewster, Different Strokes, Webster, What's Happening!, etc., ad nauseum - basically most shows that feature obnoxiously overly-expressive, sugary-cutesy children (or their flipside, cutesy, smart-ass children like Dee). Every time I hear Arnold say "Whatyoutalkin''boutWillis?" I want to throw a brick through the TV.

Oh, and early reality shows? Remember Real People? That's Incredible?

I could write a whole chapter on the Worst Children's shows ever made. Leading off would be Teletubbies, followed closely by Barney, the Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake.....the list goes on and on....

<span style="color:red;font-family:comic sans ms;font-size:x-large;">Hey!</span> <span style="color:purple;font-family:comic sans ms;font-size:small;">Don't mess with Barney OR the Teletubbies.</span> <span style="color:teal;font-family:comic sans ms;font-size:small;">My daughter just LOVED those shows, and they grew on me, too. We assigned a Teletubby to each of us: I was Laa-Laa, my husband was Tinky Winky (that was before that whole purse scandal!) and my daughter was Po. We didn't have a Dipsy, for obvious reasons.</span> <span style="color:navy;font-family:comic sans ms;font-size:small;"> Also popular in our house was Blues Clues.</span>

Re: Worst TV Shows Ever Made. . .

RealtorGal,

My duaghter adored Barney and Teletubbies, but after seeing the same episodes for what seemed to be the 900th time and endless hours of her talking "Laa-Laa" noises from the backseat of the car, I reached the end of my tether.

Actually, Barney himself wasn't quite so bad, but in the early episodes, the kids on the show were the ones who drove me nuts.

....Did you ever see the Saturday Night Live with Charles Barkley taking on Barney in a friendly basketball game? I LMAO when I saw it.

BTW, my daughter still watches Blues Clues. Now if I could just get her into watching Zoom!!

Re: Worst TV Shows Ever Made. . .

How many times did they try to recycle the Brady clan? All were more awful than the previous

As I remember them...

The Brady Bunch
The Brady Bunch Variety Hours
Various "Brady" specials
The Brady Brides (Marcia and Jan share an apartment with their two polar opposite husbands)
The Brady, A "dramedy" that was so bad that it could be used as a supstitute for syrup of ipicac.

worst tv shows

You know, I liked most of the old shows being mentioned. The ones I didn't/don't like are the Simpsons, Rosanne, Donahue/Salley Jessee type shows, and any reality show about wanting to marry anyone. Most of what passes for entertainment today just loses me (and I'm not that old  ).

Re: worst tv shows

...don't forget A Very Brady Christmas.....

Re: Worst TV Shows Ever Made. . .

Dare I add "Martha Stewart?" "It's a good thing" oh brother!

Re: Worst TV Shows Ever Made. . .

Oh, I forgot about one of my favorite awful shows. "It's About Time" I was a very small child, but as I remember it had Imogene Coca playing a cavewoman with her husband "UGH". The premise of the show was that two astronauts get caught in a time warp and in up in pre-historic times with killingly funny cavemen (NOT)

Fortunately, as I have said before, the REALLY stinkos never last too long.

Oh, and let's not forget that Patrick Duffy left Dallas to do the very forgetable "Manimal", web feet and all.:rollin:

Re: Worst TV Shows Ever Made. . .

<em>"It's about time
It's about space
About two people in the strangest place."</em>

Isn't that how the theme song went, sk8m8?
I had forgotten all about that one too. :D

Another show came to mind. Family Matters. "Did I do that?" once a week by Urkel just got to be too much in a really short amount of time.

Re: Worst TV Shows Ever Made. . .

POOKIE! That's it!
THat's the only reason I really remember that horrid program, it had a catchy song.

Just remembered another one. Unfortunatly though, it mangaged to last more that one season. Seaquest DSV, which was actually produced by Speilburg!

Re: Worst TV Shows Ever Made. . .

By the way, sk8m8, I was just a child when "It's About Time " was on, too. I don't want to add anymore years to myself than I have to.

Re: Worst TV Shows Ever Made. . .

"America's Hottest Man and Woman" or something like that. I dunno what happened to it now but I'm glad it's off the air!!!

Barney... sorry!!! That "I Love You" song drives me nuts!!! :x

<blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>Oh, and let's not forget that Patrick Duffy left Dallas to do the very forgetable "Manimal", web feet and all.[/quote]

I thought Patrick Duffy was Man from Atlantis. Was he Manimal, too? Regardless, both of these shows were pretty awful.

....No wonder TV is considered a medium. It is neither rare nor well-done.

Re: Worst TV Shows Ever Made. . .

I stand corrected, Sk8ingCynic, Simon McCorkindale was Manimal and Patrick Duffy was Man from Atlantis. Sometimes when shows are so bad they blur together.

Speaking of Patrick Duffy....
how about that awful piece of fluff that air for WAY TOO MANY seasons with Susanne Sommers, Step by Step?

Re: Worst TV Shows Ever Made. . .

Does anybody remember Clutch Cargo....with Spinner and Paddlefoot. As a "confirmed cartoonie" I'll watch anything animated, but that was one I could never stand.

I have to agree with those of you that thought "It's About Time" was awful, and "My Mother, The Car." Also any reality show, but in all fairness, I've never seen so much as one episode of any of them.

A day with a bad book is infinitely better than a day with good television to me.

Re: Worst TV Shows Ever Made. . .

Does anyone remember the following?

A series based on the movie Animal House?

A series based on the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off?

A sitcom (short-lived) called ER (it starred a young George Clooney sporting, IIRC, a mullet?)

A spin-off from Different Strokes called Hello Larry (starring the late McLean Stevenson)?

....I also never understood the infatuation with Alf.
