Yuko Kavaguti & Alexander Smirnov - ret. after 2016/17

Adelia, thank you very much for the pics! I like his new hairdo and her dress!

It's great to see them on the ice again and to know that she's feeling so well that they've decided to do a challenger before SA!

I was afraid to comment b/c I have a short memory about costumes  but I expected them to wear new costumes rn
Even some people already competing in JGP dont have them yet
But def hope we'll get to see at lest something new if they decided to keep old progs:biggrin:

& coming back to the topic of troll faces from Sasha here's another one:laugh:

I so want to see him during his students' programm
Seems he serves some Morozov realness:laugh2:

huge thx adelia

That picture is priceless!

On another note, it seems he is still involved in their training - which I am glad of; I really found them very likeable last Europeans.

Sergei has nice, appreciative things to say about Sasha's help at Ondrej Nepela:

I performed here without coach. And I would like to point out Sasha Smirnov’s help. He helped me a lot. I’m very grateful him that he putted me on the ice and how he did it. I didn’t think that a person who is still skating himself can put on the ice another athlete. This is not just praises, it’s a reality. If all goes well, then Sasha will have a brilliant coaching career.

How exactly Sasha helped? Did he say something special?

– Just humanly helped. Without ponte, like a man. Really. And with jokes. What was necessary, I caught the idea of what he suggested me. Especially before the start. Those words and how he said that, it was really cool.

Did you asked Sasha Smirnov to stand behind the board?

– Yes, at practice. He sat on the stands, I came to him, explained. He immediately responded, saying, “Of course! Water, napkins, what do you need?” Then I asked him also to stand behind the board at competitions, he kindly agreed. It was strange and unusual – a man with the name, who is still an active athlete and putting on the ice another athlete.

Yuko looks painfully thin to me. I don't really notice it when I watch the You Tube, but in person, she looked so very thin to me. Their partnership is so magical. I am still hoping they can regain their old speed. Sasha is an amazing partner. They got a very warm reception from the SC crowd and were greatly appreciated.

I am amazed she recovered so well. She is so tough and loves her sport, obviously.

Alexander seems like a nice guy. After signing some stuff he was walking out to the parking lot, beyond the bus pick up spot, by himself when a woman and her little girl saw him. This child was like 5 years old and dashed across the road towards him. He squatted down to take a picture with her and chatted with them for a bit. It just seemed so kind compared to some others I saw who rushed away.
