Yuna Aoki

Yuna will be competing at Japanese Nationals tonight! She will be the second skater to go in the final group (group five). We wish her luck in the short program!

Yuna achieved a score of 124.00 in the free skate and Japanese Nationals. This put her in 14th place in the free skate. She scored 194.07 in total, this put her in 12th place.

According to daily.co.jp, a Japanese news source, Yuna will be retiring after this Nationals competition. She cites not wanting to hate skating and wanting to skate in a way she loves, specifically saying she loves skating in shows.
We wish her the best in her retirement and we will support her through the rest of her professional career for as long as she wishes to skate ❤️

Here is a source for the news above. (All in Japanese, which means I had to use google translate. If any information is wrong, please correct me <3)

Her statement "I don't want to come to hate [figure skating]" is really poignant. At the end of the day, figure skating is still a sport and not everyone can win- and Yuna is such a beautiful skater, but the jumps really seems to be at their limits for her and if she had continued, it's not a guarantee that the jumps are staying strong. It's a wise decision to finish with great memories - she was able to see just how loved she is all over the world and in Japan this season. And who knows - Satoko may just bring her to Stars on Ice in North America....

Instagram translation:

Thank you for your support at the All Japan Championships!

Lots of applause and cheers and banners, it was very empowering 💞
Thank you for all the cards, gifts, flowers, etc 😊

There have been a variety of accidents leading up to this point, but I was able to deal with each one and get some good practice. I couldn't finish all of Japan with a satisfying result this time, but it's true that the feeling of doing it is great.

However, the article is a bit ahead and I'm a bit nervous myself💦
I'm hoping to have discussions with the coach and make a final decision.
Sorry for the disturbance, but we'll talk about what's to come when we're a bit more relaxed.

Also, some recently-posted photos of Yuna from Skate America.

Yuna made an announcement in her IG account: she's going to continue competing!!
:cheer::hap10::clap:

I think she'll have one more competition (domestic) before the ending of the season. So looking forward to her new programs of the upcoming season!! (But I don't mind if she wants to keep her Adios Nonino SP!!)

Popping in just to say how happy I am that Yuna has been assigned the host spot at NHK Trophy! She now has two Grand Prix assignments :cheer:

It also looks like she had a very strong short program at Tokyo Regionals yesterday, which I was very excited to see! Although Yuna has said in interviews that she wants to focus on giving memorable performances rather than scores/results (as she should!), it's also very nice to see her doing well in the process ;)

It's hard not to be stressed watching any skater during an Olympic season, and it's true that I would love to see Yuna really break through to the top ranks this season and be a little more widely acknowledged as the full-package talent she is. But ultimately, Yuna's special something is her ability to give creative and moving performances full of complexity and detail, and I know that she will continue to do that no matter how the results shake out. :)

Yuna competed in the women's short program at NHK last night. She finished with a score of 56.72 and in currently in 9th place! She will compete in the free later tonight.

Her free skate brings so much joy to everyone watching, shes an absolute delight to see. Great job to finish out her gp season with a nice score for her!

Congratulations Yuna on winning the 4CC title!! :cheer2: :excited: :scream: First ever championship and gold medal straightaway :jump3:

So glad to see her finally able to put down 2 clean skates together, and getting the huge score she deserved. Hopefully this means she will get the PCS that she deserves in future competitions as well 🤞

Really hope she continues for many more seasons, this score will guarantee her 2 GPs next season for sure. Looking forward to see what programs she'll do in the future!
