Yuna Kim

She was given a (bogus, as far as I could tell) "!" on her Flip, and if I remember she also got a bad GOE on her Flying Camel (I think there might have been something wrong with the ice where she was doing it). It was also the time when she could no longer do a Lv 4 Layback.

But her artistry was far superior than anything she'd put out before. Everything should have cancelled out. Also, I think her 3Lz-3T and 2A were easily two of the best jumps she'd ever done. I don't remember the GOE she got, but she should've had maximum on both, and her StSq, too probably. Should've been 74+.

the best thing is that she came out there and did a legendary long program after being disappointed by her sp scores. what a queen.
to this day, i still believe she should have set a new world record for les mis. (and again, in SITC)

New commercial.

Oh lord, you don't have to be a complete apologist and make excuses for her. It was a pretty good performance, and I like how crisp it was. But at that point in the scoring system, the judges were still being very strict with PCS in the ladies short, and a little more relaxed in the long. She also skated early and the program didn't lend itself to being very emotive, so maybe that affected it as well. That SP was still better than what anyone else did, so the score shouldn't be looked at in absolute terms.

Not being an apologist. How was I being an apologist? Because I don't think the Flip was on an unclear edge? And IIRC, several of the ladies had problems on their spins. I was reading through the worlds 2013 SP thread, and I think some people speculated that the ice was maybe not too good. It's not like I said she should have got +3 on her spin.

I really do think it should have scored higher on PCS. I have thought that the scores are bogus for quite some time now, but even then I think 33 was too low for her. Maybe the panel was being strict, but then why can't I say that it was too low? If the panel was strict, then I think it can be justifiably said that the score was lower than what she should have got.

Speaking of judging, since I had nothing better to do today and since the Olympics are right around the corner and I can't wait for it, I was scoring the top 6 ladies from the 2014 Sochi OG. I hadn't done it before so it was really fun. I tried to be really objective and not let my personal preferences get in the way. And I think I managed to do just that.
I scored Yuna with 77.36+147.91 for a total score of 225.27 [emoji16]
In second place was Kostner with 75.23+147.31with a total of 222.54 [emoji173]️
And the bronze goes to Sotnikova with 72.43+137.82 for a total of 210.25 [emoji136]
It would've been a glorious podium. [emoji4]

She actually got an E on that flip randomly and just got average GOE on her flying camel. The judges for that short program were simply awful. Can't believe Kostner with a fall on a triple toe triple toe was only 3 points away from her.

I knew I was forgetting something. An edge call is even worse.

I would rank them the same, but I think Sotnikova's score would be a bit lower. Mao's score would be a little higher. I think my off-podium finishes would be Mao, Gracie, Julia.

Oh yeah, I forgot the other three. I scored them as follows:
Gracie Gold 72.54+137.40 TS 209.94
Mao Asada 55.98+148.87 TS 204.85
Yulia Lipnitskaya 66.79+131.91 TS 198.70

Exactly, this was the problem. I don't know what Procrastinator is talking about. There is a difference between just "strict" judging all around the board for EVERY skater vs. strict judging for non-final flights skaters, etc. That's just called being unfair.

rikaquegira, I agree with your placements. :agree:

I'm hoping that she'll be the one to light the Olympic Cauldron.

I hope so ! Around 2009 I had a Korean penpal, and I asked her : Do you know Yuna Kim ? "Yes she is the #1 star in our country !"

If she is not, who do we think it might be ? I apologize for my lack of knowledge about Korean winter athletes :slink: But Yuna had so much input into Korea getting those Games, I'm hoping to see her having this honor.
