Watching now what happened to Alina reminded me how hard it must have been to Yuna going to the Worlds right after the Olympics too:sad46:

Hey Yuna actually wasn't too bad in Worlds 2010! Could've been worse imho. And yes, as Izabela says, it is amazing she was able to come back better than ever. What a boss.

P.S. I just found some interesting things about Yuna's diet in Vancouver vs. Sochi era, posted it in another thread: https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/s...ating-Habits&p=2043904&viewfull=1#post2043904

It has links to 2 pretty good articles!

I wasn’t really aware of Yuna’s diet but I wouldn’t think they would deliberately starve her to be in shape. Although, was she the one who imagines food at night when she was young, or was that Mao?

Anyways, Yuna I guess was really more relaxed coming in to Sochi than Vancouver.

I am going to watch Tokyo Story tonight, and in the film stars the legendary Japanese actress Setsuko Hara. Miss Hara (1920-2015) may have been the closest approximation to Yuna that I've seen. The comparison is fascinating. She was beloved by her entire country-- more than just the most famous actress, but rather an archetype of the feminine ideal. The perfect daughter, the perfect sister, girlfriend, mother, etc. The novelist Shusaku Endo once wrote: “(When we saw a Setsuko Hara film) we would sigh or let out a great breath from the depths of our hearts, for what we felt was precisely this: Can it be possible that there is such a woman in this world?” She never had any scandals or rumors about her, only a perfect public image. Underneath her bright smile and warm countenance, resided the most resolute inner strength and resolve.

Shortly after she turned 40 years old, Setsuko abruptly retired and left public life for good. She gave one final goodbye press conference, where she confessed that she never really liked acting, and she had only done it to support her family. After that, she never even so much as granted another interview again. For over 50 years until she died, there were no more pictures of her. No public appearances. No commercials or comeback movies. Reporters and fans were always turned away. She never married and had no kids.

What day did Setsuko Hara pass from this Earth? September 5, 2015. Yuna's birthday.

It makes me sad to think we may never see Yuna skate again. At this point, she at least maintained her public appearances. But now that Pyeongchang Olympics are over, will that still be the case? Where will she go from here?

Wow that's an interesting story - her life itself sounds like it would make for a great movie plot
I imagine Yuna will retreat into civilian life - she might still do endorsements in Korea from time to time. My dream would be to see her as a coach someday; seeing Yuna at the boards would be everything(!) - but it would surprise me if she ever has anything to do with the sport ever again. I wish I knew what exactly about it drove her away so completely.

I went to PyeongChang not because I wanted to see the competition live. I went there to see Yuna at least in the gala. I was devastated when she didn't participate. In the last minutes of the gala I still had hope. But she didn't show up. I only had a photo with her posters in the Olympic Park. LOL.

The prospect of Yuna leaving the public eye for good makes me sad. I hope she skates again in ice shows but only if she wants to. I made it a thing in my bucket list to see her in person at least once. So I was really really sad when I didn't see her. I should have watched the opening ceremony instead.

Yuna's relationship with figure skating is so bittersweet :(

But I hate it when some folks assume that she doesn't care about the sport and doesn't give back to the fs community. Revisionist history floating around in some corners of the interweb is just...:dev2:

There is an anime film called Millennium Actress, made in 2001, that is partly based on her life, maybe more like inspired the story. I haven't seen it before but it has very good reviews, I may have to check it out sometime.

Yuna's 2010 Olympics gala Meditation has been taken down on Youtube
the NBC one that has millions of views has been taken down, I cannot find it.:(
if you guys can find it on Youtbue, please share a link. thank you

Hmmm I wonder why.

There are other versions like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=336mIaEpv1E

but it's kinda weird NBC took theirs down, I'm pretty sure that one had the most views. :(

They also made the Les Miserables video by Sassybondgirl unavailable days ago and now it’s back up again. Had something to do with parts of the video being owned by IOC. IDK what’s going on but I believe IOC is making rounds again to take down vids. This is so sad because people generally go to yt to watch figure skating and that’s mostly where they get attached to the sport.

If they are doing this why can’t they just upload all programs to their official channel smh.
