Yuna Kim

It's not about simplicity. I love simple programs. It's about the way the connection between the music and her was lacking -- not because she didn't possess musicality, but because of certain choreographic nuances.

True, I see your point. More than the connection to music, what stands out in her program seems to be the feeling of finally skating. To paraphrase what I wrote earlier, it appears that the mood she made is the apprehension and and the accompanying excitement of creating something new. She was well guarded in the first try, but I think she showed more abandonment (though, of course, not in comparison to her Nessum Dorma) in her last performance of it. This program still looks beautiful for me though, both aesthetically and in terms of the overall feeling she can command on ice, and a nice addition to her body of work :P

That's fine, it's just preferences. I do think it's nice to look at, but it could be so much more. Wilson's choreography is becoming very monotonous for me.

Monotonous maybe, but he still knows where to place elements that effectively highlight tempos/different notes of the music, ina bauer, spins, twizzle, whathaveyous.

(I'm not disagreeing with you btw. Choreographically, they indeed could have done more.)

Eta: I’m in love with this picture: https://twitter.com/easy_au/status/998596864462094336?s=21 :luv17::luv17:

That's a beautiful picture. I don't really set much store by the "Queen" title, but that picture is elegance itself. Very aesthetic.

For the choreography: As you put it somewhere, the music is reminiscent of a writer's need to write something. Or, generally, an artist's need to create art. So the music suited Yuna's comeback perfectly. However, the feeling of awakening-tension-release that could have been captured in the program wasn't always there.

Look at this: https://youtu.be/ds6PDqUd7RM?t=1m8s

The instinct has awakened, and the tension is building, listen to the music. However, her movement is still too calm. The turns and changes of direction should have been a little more dramatic to indicate this.

Then look at this: https://youtu.be/ds6PDqUd7RM?t=1m40s

She's made to do steps to the piano, but IMO, switching halfway through in order to interact with the strings instead would have been more effective. A little more drama afterwards would have been beautiful.

Now the release part is quite beautiful. Everyone's remarked on the twizzles, and yes, they are beautiful. But overall the program seems like too much of a plateau. I wish she could have had two programs. Maybe she still couldn't really handle much after four years away, but what she did show in terms of skills was quite nice.

Overall, I think the problem is not the choreography per se, but the underestimation of Yuna's ability both from her and Wilson's side. The approach seems to be how can we contain this choreography so you can perform it perfectly rather than how can we push you. Since if you watch her first performance, there's part of it where she's visibly checking what she's doing, perhaps with the fear that she might trip or something. That was almost gone in her third performance, but not in complete abandon with what Lambiel did in his program, for example. But I'm happy that her skating skills hasn't completely deteriorated and her edge work is still remarkable given the time she was off ice. Even during the group choreography, where we can gauge better how she would fair skating skills wise, she didn't look sloppy at all.

An upbeat program would have been a good companion for it. There's a next time, though! See you in next year.

This is what I meant btw when I said Yuna doesn’t look sloppy at all during the group presentation. She looks so into it. (I'm writing this with no actual seriousness to let y'all know. I just like to share it, because she can still make a Fever if she's into it ;) )

Thanks for "This" I always wanted Yuna's little dance for this side, but only find the one on the other side which is also very "Fever"

Now, now, don't spread this misinformation :P

I just miss Yuna's dancing, ok. (It's just funny for me how, if she wants it, she can really be a Kpop idol with her dancing and singing skillz.)

ETA: Her 2nd dress is so underrated, I think among the three she wore, it's the most beautiful one in motion.

About the construction of the program, I think we have to take into consideration the time Yuna had on the ice. She said she trained for a month(if I'm not mistaken), meaning, in a month she learned a choreography and had to practice it to perfection.
A more complex choreo(like she could've done in her prime years) would take much more work and would be a risk because apparently they didn't have much time to put everything together.
To me her program was indeed a bit plateau, a bit monotonous, but they were smart to build an "easier" program because all the expectation and all the feels everyone gets when Yuna skates makes up for the almost too "calm" program.
As @Izabela said, this a very nice addition to her body of work anyway.
I have to say I've watched the Finale many more times than I've watched House of Woodcock... There's something about it, can't quite explain yet.

The way the pose at the end captures your gaze? She was happy to be back, that's all. :) She's into it, and she's breathing it.

Yes, on the bolded part. I can’t speak for others, but that’s what I miss the most anyways.
I’ve rewatched HoW more than I care to admit and it still tugs the heart everytime. Must have been the music and the simple fact that my fave skater is skating to a music I really love.

For the finale though, probably because of how it feels like as she welcomes everyone, she’s also being welcomed back in return. Like yes, she is back on ice and into the circle.

Sharing my new fanart of Yuna. :)
I guessed right. She had 3 different dresses and I will draw them all *evil laugh

:otopic:Let me just fangirl for a bit here. You are the Jen Mandia who made this beautiful Jon Snow art? Who I have as a wallpaper for so long now. Not to mention the Dany and Arya arts you made which are also stored in my collection. You are amazing. These are all great and I can't believe I'm meeting you here of all places   (I'm so stupid to not make a connection since your IG is filled with Yuna art :drama: )

I love, love your Yuna fanart (and thank you for using her 2nd dress, which is the superior dress.)
