Yuzuru Hanyu: 2013-14 Season

^Don't eat too much popcorn or you too may have regrets. Speaking of the interview, wow! Not that I expected less but he really delivers. On the ice and off. It's nice to adore someone's skating and hold respect for them off of the ice too.

I think Yuzu would benefit greatly from ballet training, so I hope he does pursue that. That can only help his posture and performance issues.

As others have said, his humility is refreshing for someone who won the GPF, the OGM and Worlds.

Thanks for sharing video. We hope that a video of his Sapporo's exhibition (entire) will be on air soon. For Osaka, i read on air for the 12th april ?
And after watching few sapporo's videos, i selected 3 :

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1mq31b_140408エブリィと今日の羽生さん_sport?start=195
=> a sum up of the show at Sapporo. I don't know what Yuzuru says at 02:12 but it is easy to guess. And concerning 3:10, i find this translation : "Executing quad takes relatively a long time from "so-so (rotated)" to "landing by a fluke", and to raise probability of landing from "landing by a fluke" is also a long way. I am planning to take some years slowly" . Anyone can check ?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqSfaghVzlc => some people were interviewed but the most interesting is at 9:39 it is a short extract of Hanyu's rehearsal.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpCnxah0pzY => same that above, but a little bit longer .

In conclusion, for me it is the three most interesting videos of this day ;)

I am just a shallow who loves drama. Anyways I love popcorn.

Speaking of the interview, it's good that he wants some ballet training. I hope he maintains his flexibility for a long time. Would ballet training help him with that?

But I am very uncertain about David Wilson. I hope he will not be in charge of Hanyu's long program next season. Short program, maybe. But long? Please choose somebody else. I wonder if Hanyu himself knows that lots of people are criticizing his free skate choreography.

Even though it's good to have news about the kid, I can't helped but thinking Japanese media is too much. I don't know if it's typical the same in Russia. I just think the media should let their favorite skaters have some room to breath.

I would love to see Hanyu as a repeat OGM, and hope he doesn't injure himself in his pursuit of a second Olympic gold. Ballet would be very helpful to his posture and his overall skating.

Aw, I made that Hall of fame video :) Thank you so much for posting it, Maria Victoria, I'm so happy you guys liked it.

I've been lurking here for months, but I've never posted before. I'm Ana and I'm from Bucharest, Romania. I'm 26 so I guess I'm pretty much a yuzuntie (or Yuzu auntie? :) ).

I always love reading what you guys write, it's touching to see how much Yuzu is loved.

He may have shortcomings, but considering that he is only 19 with a lot of room to grow, he's definitely on a path that most skaters can only dream of. I hope his ballet/dance lessons help his posture because that's the only thing that bothers me about his performances. I also noticed in his later skaters during the ice shows, his edges have gotten a lot better, a lot deeper and a lot faster. Seeing him grow has got to be one of the most exciting things to witness as a fan.

It seems like Japan is the place to be a skater, just look at Mao and Daisuke popularity. By example Jeremy Abbott is very popular in Japan while he can´t even get an sponsor in USA.

Right now Yuzuru is riding the "The First Male Olympic Gold Medalist" wave, it will go down a little I think. Based on echotpe account, Yuzuru is getting almost the same support in shows as Mao (most popular sportwoman in Japan according to a poll made at the beggining of the year)so it will be natural to think that in the future will get similar coverture as Mao. But Yuzuru is "againts" Daisuke in the popularity department, so it will also depend on weather Dai decides to retire or don´t.

Another fact to take in to account is that Yuzuru is a guy. So women and girls are more passionate (just look at Justin Bieber/ One Direction). The video that echotpe posted is an example of the what is a ahead for Yuzuru. Plus Yuzuru is a "natural" with the media, he does well in interviews being mature and well spoken, while also retaining a likeable character, so turning himself into a "darling" for the media isn´t that hard. If Yuzuru wasn´t as he is he wouldn´t be taking as much time in tv and media as he has.

Everything will go down once the shows season is over and he goes back to Canada. I think.

yes, ballet will help him keep his flexibility. I have had ballet for many years and I can still "do the splits" !

It will definitely help with his posture. You can always tell someone who has had dance training.

Welcome and very nice video:biggrin:
I think I saw you on the Yuzu forum.:)

Hello! I've also been lurking around these forums for a while now but this is my first post. I became a fan of Yuzuru during the Olympics and I hope I can get along with everyone.

Multumesc mult, fetelor :) [that's Romanian for "Thank you a lot, girls!"] It's great to see fellow Romanians around!!

Silvia, yes, that was me! I recognized your name too :)

【video】Yuzu@Sapporo TV program

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqSfaghVzlc

Sapporo TV program introduced the Yuzu completely. Two female announcers watched the show last night and now are crazy about him. (When watching the program, I am almost laughing from the beginning to the end.)

Fifty females were polled the top five attractions of Yuzu : style, shy smile (when he fell), performance, cute face and strong mentality.

The male announcer reported in the rink side mentioned that before today’s pratice Yuzu firstly stood in the fallen spot last night. He murmured himself “Yes, I can definitely” three times. Motivated himself and good luck tonight. (Today's practice from 9:16)

Thank you for the video!

At the beginning, the reporter on the right said that it was like he cast magic on them, and the reporter on the left said she cried! Some of the fan comments I heard were:

"Yuzuru-kun is my lover ♥. Just kidding." (from an old lady, haha)
"Isn't he cute~" (from another old lady!!)
"From the very beginning until the very end, he puts all his feelings into performing."
"His face is so cute... What is it about him? It's like art, he's kind of amazing... (is overcome with emotion, reporter scrambles to stop recording)
"It feels like his smile can reach you."
"When he was spinning, he put his heart into it."
"He's like a prince! He gives off a 'sparkling' kind of feeling!"
"Also, isn't his style great?"
"If he was my son, I'd always want to lock him up in my house together with me." (From a 50 year old woman, scary...)

Even the old ladies were saying he's cute. There was a parent and a child who were both fans, and a pair who came from Australia to see him! It's amazing that so many people of different ages can enjoy his skating.

This has been discussed many times. In 2012-2013 season people did not like Hanyu's Notre Dame long program choreographed by David Wilson. At the beginning of this past season some wished Hanyu could get other choreographers instead of Wilson. I also saw posters at other forum who think Fernandez should dump Wilson because his SP is terrible.

But Wilson is Orser's long-time business partner, so no matter how many people don't like the programs he choreographed for Hanyu, chances are he'll choreograph for Hanyu next season too. I agree with you that if Wilson has to choreograph something, then please choreograph a short program ala Fernandez.

Then I hope Wilson will make choreography of his life for Hanyu next season. He is doing now choreography for Olympic Champion, and he must do something epic that will allow Hanyu shine at his best :) Hanyu's stamina looked really great at Worlds here, so let's do something great :)
