Maybe because I'm relatively new to figure skating - it's been less than a year since I knew this sport existed - but I actually don't mind that Yuzu peaks at GPF. What happened tonight doesn't change the fact that he's still the best - his world records speak for that. Whether he creates those records at Worlds or Olympics or any other competition doesn't make a difference to me personally.

Though of course I'm heartbroken, because I can't imagine how Yuzu feels right now... it was clear how much he wanted the title. :sad4:

(I wonder what happened though? During practice earlier he looked fine... at least on the stream.)

It was not physical. It was all mental which makes it worst. Being in the arena you could feel he was not in the zone.
Truth is he lost to himself, not Javier.

I suppose we have hint of the problem with his reaction over the little incident with Ten...and even Wednesday for the SP he was so...I don't find the word but his reaction at the end of the program was sooo strong. Too strong tbh.

It's a shame that he couldn't hold up to the pressure. Worlds has never been his competition. Honestly it was more surprising that he skated a clean SP on Wednesday than his melt down today. Hoping that he can win one more world title before he retires!

I think he was in good shape. I think it is rather a mental control. He was maybe a bit overconfident or kind of too nervous for SP, and once he got over it, he kinda burnt out and over relaxed. It happens for me after exam, I suddenly feel very very tired after the subject I worried about goes rather well and realize I have many more subjects to do in my exam. But I feel like I am OK for no reason.:dance3:
I thought Javi was much weaker psychologically before, not anymore.
Yuzu learned a great lesson again this time. And this is really a good one for him leading toward Pyonchang, because so many mind boggling troubles could happen there media frenzy, ice condition, competition organization, mean rivals and so on so force.

Having said that I feel just empty and tired.
I will think about ice show which I am going at the end of May to see Yuzu:::hap10:

Perhaps you're right. He finds a way to deal with physical issues when he's mentally strong. He wasn't. Overall there was a wrong kind of energy in this competition.

Honestly I still enjoyed the program, it was very beautifully choreographed and I'm proud of his silver but in the arena, the pain on his face and him forcing himself to smile through the intense emotional pain, that's what kills me.

It looks like he practiced a lot this morning (jumped quads a lot) because he was nervous. He did the same thing at the Olympics. So at the real competition, he couldn't skate well.

He said he was healthy and ready to go (his last practice session proved that). No doubt, the nerves clearly got to him :sad21: It's okay, Yuzuru. You have already shown us what you're capable of in the last couple of months. You're still a champ in my eyes. I feel so bad for him because he really did wanted this. I hope he doesn't beat himself up (which I know he will again) and just take this experience as another stepping stone towards Pyeongchang. He's human and I think people tend to forget this, even him sometimes. Get some rest and come back stronger next season!

YUZUUUUUUUUU!!!! Tears are flowing, tears will dry .Believe in yourself, believe in your dreams and keep fighting!!!! we will always support you!!thank you so much for this umbelievable season :bow::bow:

Well there is always next year :sad21:. Well he needs to be stronger than this , I know he can.

It's true. He seemed off all week, easily rattled, very emotional... not calm, not like normal, as he's always saying: "Calm, not too exciting, just like normal." That was not him today.

Well, another experience for him... being way ahead and then dealing with skating before his rivals. He seems to do better when he skates last, knowing he has to fight. Just like at NHK/GPF.

what do you mean?

Uh, this is a fan thread so I have no idea how far one can go.

To put it simply, I think he has a problem mentally. I don't think it's being handled well. I have a whole bunch of things I won't say but I don't think burn out is a problem and I don't think an injury is a problem. I think it's solely in his state of mind. He defeated himself. He's had shaky performances under pressure before which is why I wrote way back that I'd like nothing better than two clean performances for him.

It's not talent that's the issue or hard work. He has those off the scale. But that's not what wins titles. Of course, maybe he doesn't care about them, though I got the impression that he does but if he wants titles, they will have to change things. How to put this ... winning titles and being the best ever is not the same thing. He is the best ever skater already IMO but his records are not the same as producing on demand, at moments like these, when push comes to shove. Guh, I've said too much.

Anyway, I can only wish him the best, a good rest and then they can try and figure it out. I'll cheer along as I've had since 2011 when I first saw him.

And that's where your coach comes in, to help you work through that.

On IceNetwork, they showed Brian walking in with Javi. Later they showed Yuzu, alone and not looking at all himself (at least not to my eyes).

I really think they need to rethink his current coaching situation. Brian told Phil Hersh that Yuzu is still "a mystery" to him, which I find astonishing given how long they've worked together. Maybe Brian needs to do some work to change that.

I don't have a problem with Yuzu finishing second. But for someone with his talent to melt down like that is tragic.

I feel so sad and angry! He didn't even fight hard enough. I don't understand he was fine in the SP and FS practice before that. I think he is just not spending enough time in Toronto, he needs to be there full time, this long distance training clearly isn't working.

I was also really worried when I saw that Yuzu was second to skate in the group. I think he does better when he skates later.

And now I'm going to empty my fridge of ice cream... perhaps I'll feel better after I throw up. Though I really doubt it. :sad46:

Help Yuzuru live through that ordeal with positive thoughts, it must be tearing his inside out.
He wanted too much. His 4 T came, he wanted it ( his last practise , 7 times 4 T ?, 1 time 4 S), and his 4 S left him. He pulled the bow too hard. He wants explore himself, he is still on his way. Javier has something he can learn from - to relax.
Its 5.30 here, I have a knot in my stomach.

I'm sorry, but Yuzuru is a well trained athlete. I doubt the GP series is burning him out. The other medalist all skated a full GP series. If worlds is Yuzuru's demon, then that is something he has to overcome mentally.

This. I admit that it would be disappointing if he retired with only 1 world title, especially with skates that he has shown he can do.

At the same time, the number of world titles (or lack of) won't take away from the amazing skates that he had at NHK and GPF in the beginning half of the season.
