On IceNetwork, they showed Brian walking in with Javi. Later they showed Yuzu, alone and not looking at all himself (at least not to my eyes).

I really think they need to rethink his current coaching situation. Brian told Phil Hersh that Yuzu is still "a mystery" to him, which I find astonishing given how long they've worked together. Maybe Brian needs to do some work to change that.

I don't have a problem with Yuzu finishing second. But for someone with his talent to melt down like that is tragic.

I am really, really sorry, I know there are many Javi fans here but this is about Yuzu. I don't think his coaching situation is the best for him right now, the way it is. A coach can handle one and one champion alone and Yuzuru, with the immense talent he has should have, in my opinion, exclusive attention. I don't think sharing your coach is good like this and I don't think sharing practices is good either.

And ... I'm not sure Brian Orser handled him well here either because if he had, I don't think we would have seen this tonight.

According to Orser Hanyu has a slight foot injury. He will be retuning to Japan, take a month off & then start new programs.

When he was smiling a lot in today's practice, I guess it means he was really trying to relax himself because he was very nervous. So he practiced a lot. That drained his energy.

I wondered when the rethink his coaching situation question would arise.. it was inevitable given what happened and it applies to any skater who doesn't perform to his/her/their potential. I have no thoughts on that, other than I was thinking Yuzu spends a lot of time away from tcc, which I understand because he is so comfortable at home, but it doesn't seem right to be away from your base for so long. It seemed like it was all working well until this competition, but who among us knows? Only he can decide if that is even a question.

Oh, I thought I was the only one thinking about changing coach... When I saw Brian with Javi in KC, a thought about Yuzu might want to change coach just came to my mind for a second. Then I just quickly told myself that "no, no, that can be risky..."

I don't think the training situation is a problem. It worked fine all season and Yuzuru was ready. The problem is Yuzu has always been more of a chaser and here although he kept saying he was chasing Javier's title, everybody knew and kept saying it was his title to lose. Just like for the Olympics he couldn't hold on to the pressure.
I was also kind of worried he nailed his SP because it's a pattern that doesn't work well for him: being first + skating early puts him in a position where he has to fight with himself only. Like someone said, there was a bad energy for him at this competition. It's like his nerves were so tense, he might have snapped at any moment. And maybe all this is the accumulation of the whole season: remember how he cried after GPF because he actually felt so nervous. Well here it was multiplied by a 100.

Poor yuzu, from winning in sp by 12 points to losing in the end by 19 points and this losing his gold, I have to say javi totally deserved the win and congrats to javi, but my heart hurts so much for yuzu. But I really have to say that together with shoma, yuzu managed to get the three spots for men's back, and that itself is something to be happy for already, I hope the Japanese media won't bash yuzu or anything. And I absolutely hope that yuzu won't bash himself too badly since everyone has their good and bad days....

To be homest, changing coaches is the last thing Yuzu would be thinking about. He probably blames himself, heavily. I just wish he is not to hard on himself and turns this into motivation again. I doubt he is one to get depressed as well but he will be very hard on himself.

Last week BOrser and his team were the best coaches, Cricket Arena the best environment and now this? Dunno, but he's smart enough and if it's so, he will change to another coach. (though I really hope no)

I agree. He has shown many many times that he can fight against physical injury and illness. His efforts made him rise to such heights no one experienced before, and so also comes the pressure with the height, and with the new pressure he must become stronger against it. fBut he has always faced is weaknesses bravely before, and worked hard for them, and I believe he will do it again. But it will be his choice, and whatever his choice is, I am grateful to have known of him during this time, and what he has created is so beautiful and will never be forgotten to people who love skating.

I don't think there is anywhere better or anyone better out there for Yuzu to train with, to be honest. Brian Orser can do well by him as evidenced by this season's successes but he won't solve all his head problems, nobody will.

Poor Yuzuru these things happen and though silver is fantastic(!!!) I can understand that a gold-standard skater isn't going to be happy. Especially when it's Yuzuru who is literally out for blood every time lol.

I do think it's become quite clear that keeping on top of his mental state is difficult for him. His favourite phrase 'Just normal. Not too exciting, not too calm, just normal' says everything that he is dealing with. Brian seems to have been great at dealing with it in the past, but at the end of the day it's something Yuzuru has the final control of.

i feel a lot better now sharing our thoughts and feeling here. it helps to deal with this feeling and slowly accepting it. i'm just glad i'm here with u guys. later im gona see my bf. we are both yuzu fans, but my bf just got to him last year. he is still in shock.

orser did mention few days ago yuzu has inner demon inside him and need to let this go. perhaps, we are seeing that 'demon' this week. he wasn't truly himself. he is hard on himself some other time...so maybe he need to learn how to forgive himself and learn to control his anger which he directed at himself mostly. i could be wrong on this though.

I'd rather see something new. Seimei had two perfect perfromances we can always come back to. If Yuzu takes part in creating the next lp like he did with Seimei, it might turn out just as great.

My heart broke when he fell on the quad. I think he just didn't come with the right mentality to this competition, he was under so much pressure. His immense talent helped him through the SP but perhaps that added even more nerves. His face afterwards was just...*sighs*
Still, a silver medal is something to be proud of. I hope he can get over this soon and use the disappointment to fuel his following season, as Tracy said this one did.

Well, he obviously wasn't ready, at the moment it counted the most because he had a complete meltdown. Brian Orser knew what the situation was, what the pressure was, and should know what is Yuzuru's mental constitution and tendencies.

And yeah, well, here's the thing. Not being able to hold the pressure is a problem and not a new one. It still hasn't been resolved. which means something isn't working right. He also needs to be able to both chase, and hold his position at the level he is at. He's not new at this.

I'll just reiterate I think he needs full focus, I don't think he is getting it and I don't think any of this is working out right now. They might resolve it of course in the future, primarily for Yuzuru's case I hope they do. Of course, there are 2 years to the Olympics and if you thought pressure was bad this year, you haven't seen anything yet, starting with the next one, where he'll have this loss on his mind too and Brian Orser has to lead him and Javi.

I am sorry but to me it is really weird for a coach to cheer for him and his biggest rival, while guiding his biggest rival how to defeat him. Really weird and frankly, incomprehensible because I don't see how this wouldn't negatively affect him.

Because yes, Brian Orser just helped Yuzuru lose.
