Those ruffles are a crime of fashion. Niigata needs to redeem this bib awfulness because I can't even appreciate the pictures properly, my eyes zero in on the damn ruffle napkin.

I don't know what to hope for in regards to Yuzu staying in competitive skating or going pro. He obviously loooves performing in shows and I'm super interested to see what he'd do with new EX numbers if he had the time to concentrate on that instead of trying to juggle both.
-Basically, whatever he wants to do, I'm going to be for.

Retirement means less exposure though, so less commercials and less deals. Did Yuzuru mention anything about his plans past-retirement? Like would he be into coaching a few years down the line? Or do something completely unrelated to fs? If he doesn't retire, I wonder if he's going to make some major changes, like relocating back to Japan and leaving Orser, like Yuna did.

He said a few years ago that while he's still at his peak physically, he wants to do shows with lots of other top skaters and try new things in that area, then he wants to do research into other sports and become a public speaker on those subjects, but would always be involved with figure skating. This is all taken from a talk he, Nobu and Shoma had about two years ago, so I don't know if his ideas about post competition life has changed. http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/sh...Uno-Discuss-their-futures-etc&highlight=Hanyu
Looking at the careers of Dai, Nobu and Shizuka, who are very much in the public eye even years after retirement, going pro in Japan could be a pretty lucrative decision as skaters are no longer required to give a significant percentage to JSF from their shows once they retire.

Nah, he won't retire after the Olympics, especially if he does two repeat programs. That'd be a poor way to retire. He will probably wait for Saitama in 2019 and do it at home.

Edit: Is it me or is GS really slow to post/save edits today?

Absolutely agree with you. this year I am getting totally different vibes from him, also recycling programs and retiring after that this is not Yuzuru I know. Even if he wins  another OG it is very likely that he is going to stick for at least one season after OG . I feel he will want a glorious come back to Saitama where he won his 1st WC and maybe retire in front of home crowd. ... In the interview with Finnish media he did say he wants to try new elements and stuff if he stays after OG 2018. In recent interview he was also mentioning men who can stay at their prime until late 20 ies .. it gave me hint as well... For now I am sure he hasn't decided anything yet, his mind is fully concentrated on coming season. Personally I will not be against if Yuzuru stays in sport a la Yuna after Vancouver, 3-4 competitions per season , not insane schedule . One thing I am sure is that he will not stay as long as he feels he can't dominate, Yuzuru is not that type who stays just for the love of sport , he is insanely competitive, so if he feels he can stay on top for a long time and he is healthy enough, he might even go for another quad.
I believe having Seimei 2.0 is quite real, but I am sure if he brings it back there will be technical upgrade. Yuzuru said that he wants to be pro for several years after retiring, in first book of team Brian he has mentioned a wish trying to coach but he has not come back to this topic again ...
Also I am sure he will not lack cms and proposals after retirement, for now what I have read he tries to reduce cms to the minimum and he is refusing to many proposals, after retirement I believe his public activity might even become more big, if we look at Mao, certainly fer name is still rather much more marketable than most of other competative skaters, So I don't think retirement will somehow affect Yuzu. Contrary we might see new movies with him maybe... not Just cameo he did in Tono  :laugh2:

To be fair Shizuka is miles more popular now than when she was competitive figure skater..Miki too, many people become her fan after she has gone pro, and that is true JSF takes quite handsome percentage of their income...

Shizuka's show programs are also miles better than her competitive ones. Her tango broadcast on yesterday's show was amazing. I loved it.

Miki too, when she was competitive skater she was just a good technician to me, but after giving the birth she had a huge transformation as if she has become absolutely different skater, skating with her heart out.

Amazing fan crafting! woah.

I agree with this, it's practical to guess that he has been rejecting many proposals considering of his great popularity because top athletes from other sports appear on CM or TV programs more often in Japan. It still amazes me he became this big without any official blog, twitter, instagram, facebook and so on  (and I always think he deserves official fan club) I personally believe his current status greatly comes from his skating and achievement.(and...looks and personality:p).

One thing for sure is that he will not leave figure skating after his retirement. Personally I hope he'll work as a commentator and compete in "Medal Winners Open" if it exists in future :)

and not a single PR company working for him- amazing isn't it?

While both have become more popular after retirement, I am sad to say that Miki is more infamous than anything. She gets a lot of of variety show and game show invites but that is because she is considered a respected but "hated" sports figure that is bordering on being a 'tarento' (a japanese tv personality). However Miki makes it work for her and she has been showing up on tv at least 1-2 a week and on top of that it is national tv and not just some local tv shows.
