I had the same thought too but it seems NHK is right during Yale’s break... How does it work out between the skater’s pick and the hosts’ pick? I assume Japan would prefer to have Yuzuru but in this case, whose choice would take the precedence? World champ or the host?

Host pick goes over the skater’s preference. If JSF wants Yuzu at NHK, then he gets the spot.

I think it is definitely harder to up the technical content while training new programs as well, so I am leaning towards the idea that it would be wise to keep one program and change the other. Not sure which one to drop, though, they are both beautiful.

If he chooses to get at least a new program I would not mind to see him with a new choreographer for a change. What do you think?

Maybe he could keep Origin but adapt it in line with his plans on tech and working with his ankle....

The official account of book "Team Brian" posted new interview of Brian given after WC.

"Yuzuru got injured in November, and it was mid January he returned to the real ice training. Yuzu made great recovery after that. We can not upgrade the practice with him being on physiotherapy and rehabilitation at the same time. We observed his condition carefully, and continued to train with lots of concentration and enthusiasm.

He could hardly practice 4Lo in the Olympic season. Before CoR in this season, he really focused on training 4Lo and somehow wanted to land it in the place of Moscow. He had that accumulation of those training, and that was why he landed 4Lo in the practice of mid March. And I was very glad that he arrived in Japan and landed good 4Lo in the first practice.

In SP of WC, he doubled 4S but I had no worry in FS. Once Yuzu makes mistake, he thinks over and over again and fix it, and always recovers. He failed in SP, which means if he can fix the problem, he will succeed in FS. So I was watching his 4S with confidence.

Although the treatment of Yuzu's injury had been going well, he worked his foot very hard in this competition, he will resume training in off season after resting his body properly.

I know well what kind of strategy Nathan had to gain more points this far. This is what Yuzu did when he was chasing Patrick Chan in the past. Yuzu was far behind (from Chan) in the area of skating skills, edge work and basics, and there was the time he couldn't win even though he executed the same jump (as Chan's). Then he caught up with him by brushing up his skating skills. Now Nathan is like that, he has been polishing his skating skills. As a result, PCS gap between Yuzu's and Nathan's got narrowed. However, Yuzu understands this kind of strategy well. What we should develop, and what we should do to get some more points, we will work on that from now on.

With Yuzu, we are going to discuss strategically the points to get scores and will improve in the next season. It is possible to recapture the championship."

According to the interviewer, Brian looked very positive and talked willingly.

JSF announced the diagnosis of Yuzuru's current injury on March 29, it is "Right foot joint outer ligament damage", "Triangular ligament damage", and "Right peroneal tendon damage". He has still pain and inflammation and needs 2 - 3 months for the medical treatment.

Rest well, Yuzuru

I guess he can get back on the ice in July... that means no shows this season? :(

I always wonder what "加療" means in Japanese. Only treatment? We often see ”安静"(rest) in his article but there isn't this time

At least, we have P&G talk show (we can't see it though :drama:).

That's the same side of the ankle that was injured in 2018 Rostelecom right? I only remember it's the 'outer' side and the tendon injury

Oh Yuzuru 😢
It’s not like I wasn’t expecting this but seeing it put into words as an official announcement just makes it so sad. How much did he have to hold in while going at the 4Lo over and over at the WC...
at this point, I hope he will let his ankle rest properly, give it a lot of time and perhaps just skip ACI and the GPs or something...

Yeah, it's a bit unclear, but honestly, if Yuzu is gearing up for a hyper jumping season, he's better off completely healing rather than healing while still skating. --Just my guess though. I love seeing Yuzu in shows, he's so relaxed and enjoying the love of the fans, but what he wants more than anything is to win competition. I know he'll make the right choice for him.

I guess so. In this tweet, we can see the date he got this injury, and it is the same as CoR, November 17, 2018. I think it means his former injury hasn't fully recovered.

I agree

He knew all of this during those interviews after Worlds, and the press conferences, and the banquet. He wouldn't have said all that about next year, and asked fans to trust in him, had he not been confident that 2020 was possible.

It hurts that he is still so hurt, but Yuzu is worth it.

I hope he skips the fall altogether. Do not get me wrong, seeing him is a dream every time, but he needs the time for himself. With his team of doctors and coaches I am sure they will make the right decision.

He should take as much time as he needs to to recover, even if it means taking one or two seasons off. It’s not like he’s running against the clock to get well for any major events anymore.

Like everyone here I do hope Yuzu takes the chance to recover his ankle. If he wants the 4lutz back which is highly possible then a healed ankle is necessary.
I have faith in his muscle memory, now he just need his muscle strength.

I think these 2-3 months are going to be with on ice rehab. When I was injured the therapist recommended me to keep skating while I was doing rehab so I could regain my muscle power .

And if you want to be calmer, Yuzu just appeared on javi raya's instastories. He was on the ice, with skates, talking to Tracy. This whole defeat only fired him up and I know next season he is going to be stronger. I can't wait to see it and being there with him all the way along🤞💪

Thank you, then he won't be completely off ice.

I hope he'll be able to say good-bye to the painkillers finally. This time, he could do 3A without painkillers but his ankle started to hurt after training quads. Now the season is over and he has time, doesn't need to rush :)
