"I did not think he would win in the first Olympics (Sochi Olympics). Then he won consecutively in his second Olympics after getting injured. At that time, I'm sorry for saying this but I didn't believe in him." Kozuka confessed. Koji Higashino, the host, asked him "It's not that easy? ", and he said "No (it's not that easy), I was thinking that the skater who had been piling on the effort would win."

This article omitted a very important comment from Kozuka (it happens in this kind of article to make more drama), at the very first moment he was asked "Is Hanyu senshu a great athlete?", he answered "He is incredible." and he started to give his opinion I typed above.

So if I read the between the lines of what he said, it is going to be like "He is incredible. I didn't expect him to win in the Sochi Olympics since it was the first one for him and there were other skaters who could aim for the gold medal. But he won, and he won another gold medal while he had been injured. I'm sorry for saying this but I didn't expect him to win since we had almost no information about his condition and so on. (It's not that easy to win like he did?) What he had achieved was not easy task, I was guessing the skater who had keep competing and having good results in this season would win. (But Yuzuru took gold medal)."

I took his words like this, so I personally don't feel it was offensive (or maybe I am too nice to him?). Anyway, I wish Kozuka good luck on his future job and hope he will not be in trouble again. Oh, about the lady in red dress, she is always like that so I don't take her seriously either, she is too smart to see the things normally, has always unique views. At the end of Yuzuru's segment, every guest said they wanted to see Yuzuru in person, they were just so curious what kind of person Yuzuru was.

I like to make this post as the last post for this topic, all above are only my opinions :)

Thank you for the explanation and your thoughts, I agree with you

thank you very much !:)

well , honestly we had some informations , Mrs Kobayashi's multiple announcements of progressive health deterioration :palmf::laugh::laugh: but Yuzu delivered a miracle that will be rememebered forever, "Imperare sibi maximum imperium est" said a Roman Stoic philosopher two thousand years ago

While the Japan Football comparison was really not adequate and I was shaking my head at Kozuka, I have absolutely no issue with him not believing Yuzu could win either Olympics. The first one were his first Games, so it's natural not to think the kid would win when he had Patrick Chan as main opposer, who was the favorite. And PC he was injured and hadn't skated in months, whereas his youngest rivals were getting great performances out through the season. I mean, a lot of Yuzu fans also had to manage their expectations of his second win given the circumstances of his injury.

I also want to know why

Could you tell us what they are saying?

From my selective hearing:laugh:, Dave said he likes the fact while Yuzu is recovering from injury, not able to do all the jumps, he's working other areas of the skating. He had more command with the arm and head movements (I assume they watched FaOI videos). Also praised the hydroblade part. Somehow they compared Yuzu with Nathen thru out this conversion. So Jonathan said Hanyu is in a class of his own. Dave thought Hanyu is so far ahead of Nathan in component that he doesn't need all the quads to win especially under the new scoring system. Jonathan said it's more about Hanyu competing with himself. But they thought this new music is too generic and Hanyu's skating is better than the music. And Hanyu's skating skills are so strong. Then they moved on to Boyang's rumor.
Jonathan also said Hanyu's Seimei 1.0 at GPF is the historic performance that he'd go back to watch on youtube again and again. Also implied if he's to introduce a non-skating fan to the sports, this performance has the most impact. (Well I added the 2nd part. Here he was comparing Nathan's winning performance with Yuzu's so I won't get into detail. But I think this is what he meant.)

Yes what you said is accurate. I think Jonathan said that Nathan is amazing, but when he has shown Nathan’s 6-quad program to non-skating friends...it’s a great achievement but.... He kind of stopped and started talking, so he didn’t express his thoughts fully, but the idea seemed to be that when his friends watched the video of Nathan, they were impressed but they were much more impressed with GPF SEMEI. Since Jonathan is a singer and his friends are probably also musicians, it makes sense.

I have to say the GPF 2015 Semei is totally amazing and still my favorite, too. :)

It was David :)

I actually Always wondered about that because I was not following FS yet and I've only ever seen that short snippet. I know Yuzu came in 4th that year but is there a particular story about that moment?

He became a Japanese champion that season for the first time so there was a lot of expectations for Yuzuru... and responsibilities like securing spots for Japan for next season. Not only that but he also had a flu/cold and sprained ankle so he shouldn't even compete. After SP he was criticised a lot :/

Yuzu was injured so didn't do well in the SP, only placed 9th? He or his team considered pull out of the competition but he just became the ACE of team Japan that season and the burden of getting 3 spots of Olympics was on him. So he fought through it and placed 3rd in FS, 4th overall, eventually got 3 spots.
If you go watch the kiss&cry of FS, you can actually hear him saying to David that his knee is so sore. :(

Here's a short video complied by fan. Poor baby yuzu :sad4: But it was so heartwarming seeing David comfort him.

I was watching competitions from previous years and when I saw Yuzuru's LP at Worlds 2012 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0RBtPX2bLI I thought - Jesus, is it just me or the camera effect, or he is skating super fast across the ice rink? Like, never have I seen a skater moving so fast during a competition. I mean, it really made an impression to me because when I watch his more recent programs, his skating is a bit slower but more controlled, it's about perfection of each movement. Back there in 2011 he was just like a fire ball, I mean isn't he super energetic, I can feel my heart rate going up :D

I really wonder what is it like to watch him live, hopefully I will get tickets for Helsinki this year, who knows what we could witness...
