Yuzuru Hanyu: 2018-2019

In Helsinki even people who weren't really Yuzuru's fans (staff working there etc.) were filming him/taking pictures of him. After Short Program there were so many people waiting outside of press conference room that it was hard to squeeze through the crowd. And I had to do that while holding a cup of very hot tea... :slink: Some people (not that many but still) left tribunes quickly after each practice in hopes of meeting Yuzuru. Okey that's my assumption but I don't see any other reason to leave that quickly (unless it was a race to the bathroom). Yuzuru had to run to a car after Free Skate, and some fans waited for him in athletes' hotel after Gala. There are some videos of that on twitter but I think it's better not to post them here. And last year before COR someone filmed Yuzuru, his mother and Brian meeting Yuzuru's Russian coaches outside of hotel. The fan was quiet and kept a distance but I don't think it's nice to film someone's private moment especially without them knowing that they are being filmed.

I just hope that Yuzuru (and other skaters) will feel safe in Moscow. And that he will enjoy that competition and have fun. And that gold streamers will make an appearance again this year

I looked in the Waseda e-school website and they have to submit an essay and have an interview. No tests.

Yes, and he had to do the interview during GPF in Sochi on skype, and after that he couldn't do the gala because he got sick. Much pressure from the competition and the interview I guessed.

Thank you Moscow for protecting Yuzuru and other skaters :) I think Yuzuru will arrive today (Wednesday) so get ready for news and articles :dance3:

Thanks guys for your sharing information about how security must be taken seriously.
And I am thankful to Russia that they really do their best for all the skaters.
I just hope that people will behave accordingly because as long as Yuzu feels safe, the more he has the concentration to work it.

Gosh, all this situation with fans makes me feel really sad for Yuzu.Actually when I was in Helsinki, after mens Long program ,I wanted to buy some nachos😅😅 there was a bunch of people waiting near the market stall and I thought, are all of them there to buy nachos🤔? But no,they were there waiting for Yuzu, and there were about 200-300 people, they were like canned sardins, idk how they could breath.
And another thing that made me sad, the first day of practices i went to do some sighseeing to the city center, and I saw Kolyada. At first i didnt notice him,but he was really happy and relaxed to be there, and i thought, oh its a pity that yuzu cant do these kind of things...he goes from the airport to the hotel and from there to the arena and that is all😓i guess he is used to it but well...i with he could do it too.

Aaand, I cant believe its time for COR,it feels Like it was yesterday when i was in Helsinki. I hope Yuzu could rest well these days.

I feel you. I can't be around that many people it's suffocating! and even if I see Yuzuru walking alone (as if it will happen ), I can't gather enough courage to approach him.

Thank you everyone for the updates! I’ve been so busy with work the last thing I got to watch was the Origin FS from under the table of my business meeting  I’m just catching up and Rostelecom is already here. Thankfully you all have compiled the main updates here so I won’t have to go through everything on twitter which can be overwhelming. :thank:

I hope Yuzuru will do well here... at least(?) good enough for himself to be satisfied with his performance at this stage of the season.

Fans en masse have always run the risk of getting out of hand. I was watching a program on 70s Australian pop music and was reminded of the young rising star whose first TV appearance, his clothes were quite literally torn off his back by the screaming teenage audience  (and he'd just bought a new trendy shirt for the occasion!!!)

And Yuzuru does inspire a high level of fannish excitement, even above and beyond his stunning achievements. As I've said, lightning in a crystal cage... but it's no excuse. He should be able to go out and enjoy the places he visits (whether he actually would, being Yuzu, is another question ) and be left alone to do so.

I like to think that once he does retire from competition, he indulges any travel whims he has quietly and in as much privacy as someone like him can...

(OTOH, a small part of me does think it's so cool that all the organisers now treat him like skating's crown jewel in human form, and will never grow tired of that Olympics entrance...)

I thought about it as well but maybe it has something to do with the FS lasting shorter than before. They have 30 seconds less and at Helsinki they all said that they feel those 30 seconds missing. It's not a problem for jumps but for everything else. They have no time to breathe and still need to do everything to get their points. Maybe a Biellmann spin costs too much time so he's just doing other spins which don't need too much "preparation time" (I'd say you need that for the Biellmann spin).
Now that I think about it, he really seems to prepare for the Biellmann... At ACI Yuzu executed the CCoSp in the first half with that nice sit twizzle entry and the FCCoSp as the final spin.
In Helsinki he switched the position of these two spins and the new FCCoSp in the first half is exactly the same as in Seimei at Olympics, so there would be no problem to exchange the "butt" position (*gomen*) by a Biellmann as in Seimei at NHK and GPF '15.

I miss the sit twizzle entry from ACI to be honest, that was something new and artistically great. But I wouldn't mind Biellmann either
