As far as what I read (I don't want to watch B.ESP yet) people are most upset about the comparison with Shoma as one of the commentators said that he doesn't see how Yuzu's performance can win Shoma if they're in the same competition.

Hmm I didn’t watch it as well, but like LeeJiHye19, I also don’t find it negative.. Weren’t they just referring to this specific performance? If we look at it in isolation he did indeed get below 170 here which isn’t a very competitive score for a gold at larger stage.
Granted I didn’t watch it so I don’t know the tone and the phrasing - could be the reason I don’t see the negativity.

I cannot gave further comment on that since I haven't watched as well. However, personally, I would not automatically making assumption on Yuzu's score based on a single performance. He did get below 170 here, but didn't he also get a WR score for free programme which he got just two weeks ago?
 
I'm been struggling to write a post since Saturday-- I'm just devastated that he's in pain again. He's already been through so much. Above all else, I'm praying for his good health, but I also hope so much he'll be able to fulfill his own goals because it really saddens me to think of him feeling regret for not being able to land that perfect 4A.

I get what you mean. I wouldn’t and, from just the bit that I know, I don’t think they were doing so either. I look at it as just simply saying this particular performance on this day wouldn’t win if it happened elsewhere on a bigger stage - without trying to say that it will happen and without any assumption of what he will actually do or what he is capable of.

(Maybe I’m just too simple, I don’t know. I’m the type that usually say things directly without any subtext. If I comment your hair is long, that is precisely what I want to say... but people would often interpret it as ‘you should cut it’ or ‘it’s nice’ or etc. :laugh: )

I don't watch all videos from all over the world, so I guess the harsh comment on his skating at COR is only from French, so far?
That's not too bad. There is always someone really bitter towards some skaters since not everybody has the same opinion.


Wishing Yuzuru's speedy recovery and he will show us his best/better performance.
Hopefully, he doesn't need surgery....
 
Japanese commentators and reporters always watch the practice before the competitions to see how the skaters are doing (some of them take notes), they even comment on that information during their commentary. But maybe it is because figure skating has been always popular and they kind of feel they are responsible for their job.

Scuse the double post, but I thought I'd brave BESP and find out for myself what they said. They really didn't say anything bad at all, and what they said wasn't wrong. They basically commented that there were parts of the program where it seemed a bit empty or like he was just skating to the next element, unlike in Helsinki, and that if he skated like that in a competition with someone like Shoma he would risk letting Shoma overtake him. Which is true, they just didn't know why - that he was skating an unrehearsed layout with an injury. They also speculated that it might be because he wasn't 100% and that might be also why he changed the layout. They were really their usual Hanyu fan selves, still loved his skating, still full of praise, just noticing those differences and trying to understand. Also, at the start of the gala they mentioned exactly why Yuzu was absent and commented 'which makes his performance yesterday even more amazing.'

Can I also just say that having rewatched it, which I couldn't bear to at first, it really was an amazing skate. I don't think anyone could watch it and think 'oh he must be injured.' How could he possibly skate like that with an injury???? He really is on a different planet. It's just not fair :laugh: :cry:
 
I honestly think that when the BESP uncles mentioned the comparison, they were worried for him.
And they did speculate he was under the weather. So imo as people who adore Yuzu they want to see him at his best.
Though they had no idea how under the weather Yuzu was. If they knew, the commentary would have been different.
But to each its own and in the end Yuzu won he got the job done.
The fans in Moscow at the ceremony showed so much love and support. Which I applaud specially the ones who gave the banner messages written on white paper and gold lettering.
That was hard work so I am thankful to them.
Now we all need to send positive vibes to the universe so it can reach Yuzu and aid his recovery. (If ever that is possible, but its all we can do right?)
So until Dec 3, let's keep calm because Yuzu wants us not to worry.
 
Man, I'm so torn now. I don't know whether I'm hoping for him to go to GPF/Japan Nationals or not. The best scenario is of course he miraculously heals quicker or just in time, but that would mean no practice going into GPF. I don't think I can stomach him going and then apologizing for not having practiced and such. On the other hand, each competition after the Olympics is like a bonus that I am savoring. It would be equally sad to think of him spending his birthday wishing he is competing.

Ohh, the menu he had during GP of Helsinki is very interesting. The list doesn't show his meals on the days of SP and FS, but I was surprised that he had very very traditional Japanese breakfast for three days. Rice, miso soup, natto, grilled salmon, egg...and I noticed that he had rice in every meal and didn't have bread even once. I don't know if it was his choice or advised by Ajinomoto, but he said he loved rice and now I think it was not joking :biggrin: (I am Japanese but I love bread as much as rice, so I am a type of person who wants to eat bread once a day :p) Other things he took were low-fat milk at every breakfast and dinner, fruits (two kinds from orange, apple, pineapple, banana, kiwi fruit) at every breakfast and dinner, chicken, pork (no beef?), and various vegetables.

I am glad he eats healthy and I am hungry now :laugh:
