Hello do we have any confirmation now if King Yuzu will compete on the finals? I saw a post from CBC adding Keegan on the final list of men competing for the finals. So i'm a little confuse why did they do that. Also how come Yuzu only has 222 pages here when he is like the most famous skater ever?

Yuzu has a new thread each season, that's how popular he is (I think Medvedeva had more than one too, but no one is on Yuzu's scale.

With the CBC thing, it's a bit crass and tactless given Yuzu is hurt and no one knows where he is at exactly, but I believe (don't quote me) they always show any possible-but-just-under Canadians for the home market. It's just that this year there aren't any others so yes, it feels a little like they're pushing Yuzu, and we're sensitive and protective because he's hurt.

I also felt that many commentators and reporters around the world are waiting for him to retire soon or expecting him to, but Yuzu is Yuzu. He will retire when he wants to not when it is "normal" to retire.

Many skaters would have after one, let alone two OGMs (hey, there was some talk of him retiring after Sochi and he was only 19!!!) and Charlie White made a self-deprecating joke about it on the COR Otonal video.

OTOH, the Japanese media keep talking at him about 2022.

Thing is, Yuzu not only want to keep going for the 4A (and I suspect a few other things) but he's still better than everyone else, let alone the youngsters coming up. It's up to him (and his own body, skating being the sport it is) but the speculation in both directions is inevitable.

My take on the recent CBC discussion is that they are nice to Yuzu in terms of commentary, which is what really matters. I don't want to bash Canada in anyway because Canada is Yuzu's 2nd home..and I know Canadians also love Yuzu (most fs fans at least).

But I was offended because he hasn't withdrawn yet. I also felt that many commentators and reporters around the world are waiting for him to retire soon or expecting him to, but Yuzu is Yuzu. He will retire when he wants to not when it is "normal" to retire.

Yes, I like CBC commentary and that won't change ;)

Yuzu has a new thread every season, otherwise there'll be too many pages for the forum to handle. You can find yuzu' threads from previous seasons on fanfest too.

I've been rewatching older Yuzu vids on YouTube this evening, and can I just say how weird it is when he finishes and no-one throws any Pooh bears on the ice

After the recent injury I feel that it will be his body and its signals that will tell him when to retire, not the media. [emoji20] [emoji30]

His ankles may not hold out for 4A.. We have to wait and see. I kind of secretly wish Yuzu to keep competing for the sake of new programs with new music and new costumes moreso than seeing 4A. I want Yuzu make history to land the 4A but I think he has so much to offer to the world in terms of musicality and artistry moreso than the 4A.

Aye, it's common on CBC to expand result tables with Canadian starters, who did not finish in the top group. But this is something that sportscasts all over the world do, so nothing wrong with that. It just looked veeery unfortunate in this specific case for multiple reasons (pre-burying Yuzu... ignoring alternates of other disciplines....)

What bothers me most in CBC coverages are those distracting textboxes which cover half of the picture.
I was really annoyed at Worlds 2017, when (I think it was Nathan or Boyang) skated his program and suddenly a huge infobox popped up :palmf:

Why can you not wait till the end of the performance or show it after the K&C? THAT was really disrespectful imo. It sounded like: Okay, you can skip this one and come back later...

They do that a lot. Today it was *Evgenia Medvedeva in 8 minutes* I agree that it bothers me when they do that too... but I didn't take it as disrespectful. I took it to mean that another favourite is coming at *this* time, just in case you wanted to leave after the current skater finishes to go to the bathroom etc., and you'd know what time to come back so you don't miss that next skater.... I see it as a courtesy, although it could be smaller. We all see it differently, which is natural.

Ooh, now I'm curious. Does anyone know when the tradition of throwing poohs started?

Could it be Worlds 2015 in China? https://youtu.be/1pQGmzctFT4?t=239 SP

In earlier competitions, many bouquets were thrown, but it was in China that his fans began to throw lots and lots of Pooh-bears.

It is an interesting point, that Pooh-rain has not yet happened on Japan ice.

Here in 2015 NHK Yuzu did the perfect Seimei, and fans threw flowers, https://youtu.be/0j07i-cqZgg?t=386
2017 WTT also lots and lots of flowers. https://youtu.be/6pOyUw_Pn8Q?t=383

So I think we can deduce that the Pooh-rain is generated by his international fans. :luv17:

Shun Sato, who yesterday placed 2nd on the National Jr. Podium, said this:
"I'd like to be a skater who competes at the world level like #Hanyu-senshu who I aspire to...He radiates so much charisma...when everyone was speaking English during the #EX he explained to me what they were talking about (because I don't understand any English)." #ShunSato

Sochi Olympic ones are hilarious. He barely got anything after his WR short. He got one Pooh all wrapped and some flowers even though he was Japan National Champion 😂. Now he got most out everyone combined in one competition 😂

The first pooh rain vid imo as the others said too was in shanghai, then the tradition started.
I am not sure if a group of fans organized it or everyone had some metal telepathy and went like, ok today I am gonna throw some Poohs.

If he does miss the GPF and Nationals, can you imagine what the poohstorm, and the welcome for him, will be like at Worlds? I suggest the officials take earmuffs....

From what I heard, Japan is strict about throwing gifts on the ice. But I am not sure was it really the case in NHK?

But in Vancouver (if he will be healthy enough) there will be surely be poohstorm with overly thankful teary eyed fans. Not just in the arena but as he said "Whenever and wherever, in the tv or internet"
Its kinda nice to imagine such positive thngs it made me feel happy. :o:

I think the collision with Han Yan at CoC only a few months earlier (Nov 2014) encouraged fans to show extra support.

Yuzuru is waiting for you at the station

https://twitter.com/imoimo_gu/status/1066974638461214720

The campaign for Yuzuru's muddler has started today. To apply, buy Ghana and make "Hot Ghana" as Yuzuru made in the video, take picture of it, and post it on your twitter or instargram after following https://twitter.com/ghana_recipe or https://www.instagram.com/ghana_recipe/. Three muddlers are a set so you can get all types if you are a winner. But the problem is, only 500 people can be winners...

That's not a lot! :palmf: I will make a hot chocolate anyway, and enjoy it by myself.
