Yuzuru Hanyu: 2018-2019

Just returned from my silent retreat where I learned not to dwell so much on the past as there is no changing it, to forgive not just others but also myself, and thus move on freer and happier. What happened in the SP may well free Yuzuru to do his best performance of "Origin" at this year's biggest competition, one worthy of a highlight reel. Praying and cheering for him to once more gather himself and rise to the occasion. In all of skating, there is nothing more moving than to see Yuzuru
Hanyu fighting and leaving everything out there on the ice. Ganbatte Yuzuru!

Good luck, Yuzuru! Please be healthy and don't get hurt. That's my only wish for him.

I don't care about placements, double olympic champion is still on top of his game  The generation has changed and it will take time for him to adapt but he is still there fighting on the highest level, who else in the sport has done that?

Nathan is going to push Yuzu to higher heights, isn't it fascinating? Next year when he brings 4A, which he will, then he does not need to be worried about BVs.

Also, ISU get your act together. How can you give 80% of BV to 4T+3A with the excuse of SEQ?

Well, I can't say I'm delighted with the overall results of this Worlds (in... most of the disciplines really) but I decided at the end of Yuzuru's skate that what mattered was seeing him happy and proud again, and we got that. So I can't be too upset, really.

And now :bed:

Epic Origin! So beautiful, majestic!

My heart is broken! He was smiling but I could see the sadness in his eyes..No matter, Yuzuru, you skated clean and you did your best after the injury. Congrats!

Well, I am definitely biased but seeing other skaters enjoy the boost of GOE and PCS based on one or two titles that they got while he has to sweat blood for each point of those marks regardless of all his achievements leaves a bitter aftertaste in my mouth at each competition.

However, Yuzuru Hanyu has always flown beyond the limits of these scores and that is what makes him so amazing :luv17:

Is it because he put his left foot down after the 3A?? I didn't know what the +SEQ means and looked it up - apparently this jump set didn't met the criteria for a jump combination. Could anyone explain me why?

Don't be. Heaven forbid any injuries he will regain world title next year and I will bet anything you say that he is going to win third olympic title in 2022  His longevity that he has bet his life on it is what puts him in an untouchable place in the history of sport.

Because when you add an axel as the second you make a change of direction of your whole body (from going backward to going forward). And you take off with the left skate, after landing the first jump with the right one, while combinations have to be joined right out of the landing of the first jump.

SEQ is when it is not a combo. Not sure if the rule has changed from previous years but, in this case, the skater earns 80% of the total BV from the two jumps.

Going back to Combos, they occur subsequently from the landing edge of the first jump. In the case of Seq, it is not the case.

In a combination you land on the right foot and go straight to the second jump while still on the right foot. In a sequence you land on your right foot but switch to left for the next jump and it is supposed to be easier than a combination and gets 80% of BV. However, who can argue that 4T+3A should get lower base value because it is easier?

On the other hand, Yuzuru did insist on getting rid of double jumps in his programs so it was the only option for him to maximize his score in the limit of rules and types of quads that he currently performs.
