Since Toshl's past is known internationally now...

I've seen Toshl many years ago at the small local shopping mall which was in the city next to mine. He was alone, sitting, singing with a guitar, for free. Wearing no sunglasses, no make-up, short-haired. I noticed him only because the board said "Toshi", he was not whom I had used to know on TV and looked like a different person completely. There were only 5 or 6 fans in the very front row, other people were the shoppers like me. His voice was clear, but it was very obvious even for me he was in the darkest time of his life.

It seems he has found the lights again (I am not talking only about Yuzuru), people can re-start if they try and work hard and Toshl is a very good example of it IMO.

I love stories like this. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for your report. -were you able to try any of the food at the venue?

Unfortunately no. I came in ike 1:20pm already coming straight from Narita.
But I did manage to get the official shirt for a souvenir. I choose the one with green lettering.
The lady who helped me get the ticket, we only managed to say high and hello. She gave me a Yuzu postcard, some ghana bite size chocolates and a traditional pastry.
It was a great experience to be there.

I saw some tweets that Yuzu with all formalities boldy called out the head organizer of Fantasy on Ice to held it again in Sendai during his ending message.
What can I say? Yuzu is such a great ambassador to Sendai.
He is just so cool.

Thank you for your reply. Honestly I wanted to share this earlier but I didn't know if it was ok to talk about his past and what I saw. But now Toshl's fans seem they want many people to know about his history, they are very positive thinking. I am very glad for Toshl and his fans :)

He's clearly turned his life right around and is loved and admired, and his interaction with Yuzu here is adorable

He appears to be on a real high being able to perform at home. Couple with the story in Yuzu days that his happiest moments are with the whole family, I hope the organisers hold FaOI in Sendai more in the future so that he can go home more often and longer.

Even with the problems of the ice and probably being tired, you can see the happiness shining from him - the audiences seemed to be everything hoped for and more in their love and appreciation. I get the feeling the other skaters were also showered with appreciation and soaked it in, even knowing as they did that Yuzu was the focal point.

Now - as I understand it - there will be new programs and maybe new costumes? (pleeeeaaase let those white and black monstrosities from the ending get burned. Though Yuzu did manage to look better in it than most, even beautiful Stephane suffered)

Becareful of what you wish for, given FaOI's track record, they can come up with something that make you miss the black and white costume. (I sometimes wonder if FaOi borrows the concert custume designers from Johnny's...The fashion is so similar lol)

EeeeeEEEE!!! :eeking: I didn't mean it for a dare, FAoI, truly!!!

 Off topic, but do you know Arashi's legendary transparent costume? All costumes in FaOI are god compared to that one

BENI won't be in Kobe and Toyama, and May. J will perform in two cities again. My guess is OP number is going to be by Toshl but different song, and the finale by May J ("Let it go" ?).

Oh I know the legendary transparent costume...You know, Hanyu might actually look good in it, just swap the white shorts for white long pants and keep the transparent top and FaOI would be doing all fans a great service XD

Is Let it go the Disney one? I thought that was already the finale song last year?

-I just noticed that the Golden Skate Accolades Poll is ready to vote! -Yuzu's name is on a lot of lists. https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?706-2019-Golden-Skate-Accolades
Poll closes on June 30th.

I did my duty and voted, quite early in fact. :)

I saw that Yuzuru had more than one nomination in all of the categories he's in, thereby "splitting" his vote. An embarrassment of riches really, which made this Hanyu fan ponder for quite a bit before voting, particularly in the "best spin" category (voted for the change foot sit spin prior to the step sequence in "Otoñal." I remember how I caught my breath when I first saw it).

Still as of the moment, Yuzuru's leading except in the "best spin" category where Jason is ahead of him. Yuzuru leads in the "best costume for men" for "Origin" by a significant margin so apparently many GS members do approve of his taste in costumes even though there's a vocal number who don't. :p

I think these show that he has truly become a great all-around skater, which early in his career he vowed to be.

What amuses me is that the mens' costume has more votes overall than the ladies' and way more than ice dance or pairs. Despite those who demur, our sparkly heroes (Shoma is coming second) do grab the attention...

Oh, I forgot Let it go was in the finale last year, she is going to sing another song this year then :)

The fact he leads in almost all categories despite most of his english-speaking fans gather on another forum instead is pretty telling. Taste may differ, but Origin really has one of his greatest costume...just for the costume I really want to see the program again either in competition or as an exhibition.

Voted! :) The Origin costume is incredible. Television cameras do not make it justice. So lucky to have seen him in that costume in person. As for the general criticism of the fishnet/rosey top combination I think he makes it work really well.

The fishnet costume was waaaayyyy better than the white and black at the end (even the ladies for the latter was horrible) and Yuzu looked better in both than 95% of the human race could manage...

Origin really is a stunning costume, it's my equal favorite of his with 2018 Seimei (ehich is not only gorgeous but utterly iconic) and Masquerade (fierce demon Overlord!) and Notte Stellata not far behind.

I am watching this short video clip of Toshl in his blog over and over again. :luv17: He is almost singing opening Yuzuru's gift

"Today, look at this, his hand-written message. "Toshl-san, I hope you'll like it! Best regards. From Hanyu." Skating boots, how lovely!!"

"What is this? What is this? I am opening it. This is important (patting Yuzuru's memo)."

"Even ripping paper like this is precious. The present from Yuzu. Jajajajajan, Pon!! WOW! YAMAGATA NO SA.KU.RA.N.BO (cherries of Yamagata). Whaaatt? Surprising, I thought this would be something from Sendai. It's Yamagata's."
