Yuzuru Hanyu Lands 4LO

Well....one was really good and the other was very clearly faulty. I think the right call was made and I'd hope Alexie is a good enough sport to know that he was very lucky to get the points he got for it. Had the landing not been so bad he probably would have been recognized as the first 4lo. Nice try though for him.

I think what CoyoteChris is objecting to is not to the fact that Alexei's was not ratified - especially since he has made quite critical posts about it - but rather the fact that the non-ratification was not announced, hence leaving Alexei - and others - in doubt about it. And possibly indicating that they were actually considering ratifying it until Hanyu's came along.

Oh, I agree completely. But it is only right that there are explainable criterea for making the call by the ISU. UR, Stepout, what have you can all be grounds for non-ratification. But the criteria should be in the rules....not made up on the fly....transparancy transparancy transparancy. Just like judge's marks being given next to their name and country.

There should definitely be a published criteria for this from the ISU.
like:
1. Rotated
2. Landed on one foot
3. 0 or higher GOE

Got it! ;)

So we all agree then :ghug:

I thought they made an announcement already and didn't know things were in limbo. I'll just :slink:

Exactly. And more in fairness to Alexei than to anything or anyone. I like Hanyu and am happy for him. Landing a new jump is a pretty big deal and I think there should be some formality about it all.

I be fair, I think they did make the decision to not ratify Alexei's earlier today or yesterday (judging by the article from the other thread), but just didn't make a formal announcement yet. But seeing how the referee immediately went to congratulate Hanyu on his first 4Lo, I think the message had probably already been spread to all the ISU officials?

Dont feel bad. Sometimes I think we are all mushrooms, being kept in the dark and feed , well, compost. I would like to see more formal announcements by the ISU in these cases....not silence. "We recongnize that Mr. Alexei was given credit for a 4LO in comp and we are looking into ratification pursuant to the rules established in our book, section 123 paragraph 456, available on our website."

yeah... that's what I took as A NO ... otherwise it would have been done instantly.... ;) I didn't read this as a "let's wait for Yuzu first"... but more as a most likely, we recognize that it was rotated and landed on one foot but he touched down with his hand so we don't want to give it to him... and we will find a way not to ;)

Pretty good. At least it was landed on one foot and no stumble/turnout.

So, I guess this also marks the occasion when all quads up to the Lutz have been landed in competition? What an era in men's skating!

I'm waiting for the ladies to catch up with triple Axels and quad salchows. ;)

As an aside, there is an extensive news release section on the ISU website, with sometimes three releases a day. A new jump is a big deal. You would think they could put the release there.

i guess they were debating it ;) just like so many people have done here haha ;) in any case, Hanyu's is ratified first if they are still unsure what to do about alexei's ;) what is more important ? ratified first or perhaps landed first LOL... it's late here.. i am just kidding around

BTW, how do we know that Hanyu received official first 4LO ratification? Did I miss a news release?

definitely not saying it's official... but at the same time, I have a hard time believing Skate Canada would implicate Jean Senft like this if they didn't have info that it will be official soon enough ;) it's quite a thing to make a declaration on the behalf of a referee

Exactly right. Comp officials gave the jump to Alexei too at the comp....."Where's the Beef?"

As of now there is no ISU official news release of 1st 4Lo ratification.

What we have are only protocols and videos from both competitions plus Alexei post or tweet and Skate Canada tweet.

I believe ISU will now review both 4Lo and decide on the ratification, and hopefully also provide the criteria for this.

For now everybody just calm down and enjoy both Alexei's and Yuzu's...life is too short

From what I believe and what I was saying tech caller only ratified Kraznoshon rotation, but there was no talk about first CLEANly landed quad loop
