Dear Members. During the first day of competitions at the Olympics we have noticed that many posters are completely forgetting that these are competition threads, as for actual skaters competing. They are not threads to express with whom you have an axe to grind, to express your political opinions, your issues about doping allegations, any issues you may have with certain countries or people, your opinion about cheating or not, disparaging comments about people experiencing mental health issues, and/or any xenophobic or homophobic opinions you wish to express. Such posts are contrary to forum guidelines in general but are especially off putting in competition threads. Please focus on what is happening on the ice.

Posts which contain such sentiments derail the thread and take the joy out of taking part in these threads for other posters who join in to enjoy the experience of watching a Figure Skating competition with like minded posters. The moderators are free to delete all such posts without warning, and will do so if this continues.

Start Orders are up for the men’s FP: https://results.isu.org/results/season2122/owg2022/SEG002.htm

When did the Olympics start basing FP skate order on SP placement? Everyone is skating in reverse order of their SP placement with Nathan skating last. I am thinking this is the first time this has ever been done at the Olympics. So, I have read that this protocol is due to the pandemic to reduce exposure during a random draw. Makes sense!

No offense to you, but It makes no sense. A draw can be an impartial act with the skaters not even there within the groups. Or via video with a skater's delegate pulling the rabbit out of the hat.
When I am head of the ISU, after seeing Mariah carry that huge chunk of ice back to the judges during warmup, there will be an ice resurface before the second to the last group and before the last group at Olys and Worlds. In any ISU event, there will be a draw within the second to the last group and a draw in the last group. That is only fair. Anything else is unfair.

If you watched NBC this morning, they have all but given the medal to NC. (Except for Scotty, who has a brain) Nothing can be further from the truth. They, except for Scotty, have no idea how hard skating is, and how having to wait so long to skate an sketchy ice can effect outcomes.

The reverse order of the SP has been in place all season because of the pandemic: in the GPs, Challengers, Senior/Junior Bs, Europeans and 4CC. Don't kid yourself: the skater who goes last has a long wait, and it has to be a nervous one. You will also see this protocol in place at JW and Worlds.

When you consider how awful it was for Vincent Zhou to be out of the competition because of the crud, it is even more important to do the draw in this way to limit contact among Olympic skaters and officials.

Rutgate! (sorry...the devil made me do it) LOL!
<snipped the pics of a past event that doesn't belong in a thread about a future event>

Mikaela Shiffrin caught an edge on the slope and went down soon after coming out of the gate. She was going for her 3rd consecutive gold medal in the Giant Slalom. Many already call her the GOAT. Should I post the video since freak events are funny? I think not. I have too much respect for all she has been training for.

I was watching Yusuru practice just now. An someone explain why Brian is not by his side? Is he still his coach. Right now, looks like he needs that support, what Moskvina does with her pairs, etc
Where do you watch the practice session ?

My guess was that since they have not been training together during the pandemic that it is another precautionary protocol to limit interaction between groups that have not already been together. Perhaps it is like how we were encouraged to have a closed group of people to come in contact with at the beginning.

On Peacock or where? To answer you, Brian said he is respecting Yuzu's request to go it alone as he did at Nationals. That was from an interview he gave before the OG.

Brian told the media not to ask him questions about Mr. Hanyu. I believe he said he hasn't had any contact with him in quite a while.

Nathan going for a solid jump layout: 4F+3T, 4F, 4S, 4Lz, 4T+1Lo+3F, 3A, 3Lz+3T. He had a step-out on the 3Lz+3T in practice and was so annoyed with himself that he did clean 3Lz+3T right after.
