Dear Members. During the first day of competitions at the Olympics we have noticed that many posters are completely forgetting that these are competition threads, as for actual skaters competing. They are not threads to express with whom you have an axe to grind, to express your political opinions, your issues about doping allegations, any issues you may have with certain countries or people, your opinion about cheating or not, disparaging comments about people experiencing mental health issues, and/or any xenophobic or homophobic opinions you wish to express. Such posts are contrary to forum guidelines in general but are especially off putting in competition threads. Please focus on what is happening on the ice.

Posts which contain such sentiments derail the thread and take the joy out of taking part in these threads for other posters who join in to enjoy the experience of watching a Figure Skating competition with like minded posters. The moderators are free to delete all such posts without warning, and will do so if this continues.

yes Nathan "could" skate again. Here are the next steps : Women need to skate their SP. Then, the top 5 teams will have to pick their skaters for the LP. USA is qualified for the LP obviously already. USA could decide to have Nathan skate the LP if they feel they have a chance for gold... but they could also rest him as the singles men SP is Tuesday in Beijing.

Nathan would likely have to agree to skate the free program. The criteria say that the strategy of a skater with podium potenial for the individual event takes priority over team strategy.

of course the use of the emphasized "could" in my post said it all... but if the criteria is followed perfectly then there is no need to discuss anything anymore as there is no real chance for medals in pairs and women...meaning automatic splits in men and dance : ) ;)

Whose messed/up idea was it to put this segment right after the women’s SP?

Only five of the men will be making the FS which means the other guys will be also warming up and getting mentally ready …. only to not end up having to skate after all depending on how their teammates do.
Wasn't the original messed up idea that the men's LP of the team event was going to be the day before the individual short?

Yes, but noooo, it's China and we must have pairs last when the order has been the same ever since figures were eliminated. Italy didn't change the order even though their best event was dance in 2006. Canada didn't either in 2010.

Well it would have been bad for pairs as well. I don't know why they couldn't just hold all short programs one day and all the frees in a day or two and be done with it.

If I'm reading it correctly the men will skate tomorrow (Sunday) at 11:50 CST (US central time) - is that correct? Peacock does not have that on their schedule.

But it's been bad for pairs since 2014. I guess maybe there was complaining about it then, too. I've been here that long, but I don't remember.
