Having worked in the bridal industry for a few years, I found that the bigger issue with letting bridesmaids choose their own dress was that, inevitably, we'd end up with worried bridesmaids in the store who desperately wanted advice on what would look best. They often would have been happier wearing what they were told to wear. We spent many hours helping bridesmaids compare colors and styles. Thankfully, most of them took length into account. I highly doubt many who got to choose their own dress actually wore it again. I guess it just goes to show that you have to know your bridesmaids and what their comfort level with various styles might be.

Edit to add- I do think most of Tanith's bridesmaids looked lovely. Not so sure about the long dress in concert with the shorter ones.

I think you hit it on the head. yep, it puts a lot of pressure on the bmaids and the different levels of formality and lengths and one in a more jarring shade of pink sort of highlights that while it is a nice thought and great confidence in the bride and her maids well ...I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Really though the main thing is that Charlie and Tanith are married. The rest is frosting, a bonus. So Merlyls dress or any outfit was not totally in line or coordinating and as we can tell many will disagree (though I strongly suspect it is mainly because they like meryl rather than the dress we tend to think favourable of those we like).

Yep, it is just my opinion but I did go to school for it (fashion and wedding planning) And I have said time and time again - the b and g are always right though there are some things that are more aesthetically pleasing like coordinating levels of formality and such. There is a reason we have experts for engineering, fashion, décor, medicine, building, cooking, vets etc. REally a wedding is about two loved ones publicly declaring their love. The rest is icing:) I am so happy Charlie and Tanith had their day. Everyone should have a special day hopefully before they die. This conversation sort of hints at we are out of season lol. But really, let us focus on the real issue - where was Taniths most famous 2010 Vancouver Olympic roommate- Johnny Weir - he probably would have been more properly attired than Meryl as to formality (and outshine the bride lol). Bring on the sequins, bugle beads and feather boas.

^ I see you are continuing with your "joking around." I think you are just trying to make people mad for no reason except that it amuses you to do so. The dresses were fine, everything was lovely, hope they live happily ever after.

Hopefully before they die? Exactly how many weddings for dead people have you planned so far? I'd love an expert opinion on how that would be aesthetically pleasing.

While I don't tend to agree with Skater Boy, I agree that the dress is not a bridesmaid dress. Cute dress it is, don't have problems with the color, except it looks more light purple-lila than pink.

The upper part of the dress is overall fine, the problem is the length and skirt silueta, if Meryl wanted something short she could have gone with a cocktail dress type ( A line, medium lenght over the knee, this kind of dress fits perfect a petit girl like Meryl).

But I would never usa that dress with flip flops! ! Flats maybe...

Meryl looks beautiful but because she is a pretty girl and has nice body, but is not a dress I have ever seem in a bridesmaid, not would I like to see.

My main problem with the dress is that have seen pictures in which underwear lines are market.

On the topic I have always thought in let my bridesmaids choose their dresses, but I would give the color and fabric,

I don't think its a traditional bridesmaid dress, for sure, but i disagree that it made Meryl look that out of place as a member of the bridal party. Tanith's dress was not overly elaborate, so I'd argue Meryl's dress actually went well as opposed to a sequined number.

Fwiw, I asked my mother in law her thoughts since she doesn't know Meryl is and she thought the dress was fine. So truly it's a ymmv thing.

eta: I do agree with Cruzceleste that perhaps the dress would looked even better with an a-line.

I believe Tanith had a lot of bridesmaids (6 in all?) and I've only seen a picture of 3 of them. They cover a spectrum of formality and color. Two are light/pastel and one is bright, but within the light colored ones, one is peachy (yellow overtones) and one has blue overtones. I'd have to see the rest to see if all together they form a kind of graduated spectrum. Maybe there is only one bright dress and it is worn by the maid of honor?

That said, I think far too may people spend far too much money on weddings by listening to "experts" who are anxious to tell people how they must do things "properly", which its often code for the most expensive way.

I meant everyone deserves a special day in their life. And I hope you all get one. Maybe that is why I want to see so many different champions and not just say Hanyu or whoever.

All the bridesmaids looked beautiful. I love the idea of letting each of them choose her own dress with only the color restriction. Meryl's dress is simple and sophisticated and she looks gorgeous in it.

The dress is sooo pretty on Tanith. I like that it's not plain white, but has some rose shades at the bottom.

The brides maids all look beautiful as well. I don't think Meryl's dress clashes or stands out too much from the over-all 'look' of the assembly.

RobinBond - thank you for the pictures. I think that Meryl's dress fit right in with Charlie's sister's dress. Not sure why it has caused all this discussion. The wedding party was beautiful, the bride was beautiful, Charlie was handsome and I wish the happy couple all things wondrous.

Excuse me, but your username looks like one that I've seen on hanson.net. Do you by chance have an account on that site?

Tanith apparently has changed her name :) and her Twitter ID :) after all :

The Twitter account for "Tanith Belbin White" is @TanithBW.
(Used to be @TanithJLB, before "Tanith Belbin" married CW.)

As I mentioned in an earlier post, changes to a verified Twitter account nullify the verification.

So at the moment, Tanith's Twitter account is not verified -- but I imagine that she is going through the process of re-verification.

So that´s settles it.... Tanith will keep her last name and ad Charlie´s too.
