Yuzuru, Denis, Javier, Jason, Han. Probably Chan for another chance to win the OGM. Maybe Machida.

Thanks for the thread, Mrs. P.

And to state the obvious: Hanyu did not compete in Vancouver in 2010.

My point is that I don't understand the gushing over certain young ladies who some believe/insist are sure to dominate for the next eight (not only four) years.

I guess the difference is Hanyu couldn't compete in 2010, he wasn't age-eligible. Even if he was, he wouldn't make it out of the Japanese Nationals given the depth even back then. And besides, I think Patrick was the only one people believed would dominate the next four years, and he really did.

For Hanyu - As a 19 year old Olympic Champion, and not yet World Champion, it's not hard to believe he can dominate for the next four years. He has all the momentum in the world right now, and I don't see that stopping barring major injuries.

Although I cited Hanyu by way of introduction, my point (as my post indicated) was about the outlook for Ladies and about the next eight years, which is the scope of some predictions in other threads.

ETA: I should add that Hanyu's status as under-age in 2010 is a very good example of what I am trying to stress. Over eight years, worthy young skaters are bound to move up the ranks.

20.) Ekaterina Kostenko/Roman Talan: Stopped competing in 2010.
It's strange to comment on the last-place team, but I recalled seeing him at Nebelhorn and looked him up. As it turns out, Kostenko and Talan got married the year after the Olympics and later had a baby. He found a new partner and Kostenko became their coach - Usmantseva/Talan were the ones who qualified Ukraine's paris spot for Sochi, though they did not get to take advantage of it.

I actually posted about Hanyu being a future medal contender here on GS after Junior Worlds in 2009, although because of his age I suggested he would likely contend in 2018.

Actually, I got two thirds of the podium in that post! And I can't be blamed for getting the rest of it wrong, I only picked them on account of having been 1-2 at JW at the time.

I can't speak for anyone else but as one who seems to gush at times I don't believe my favorite young lady will be neccasarily dominating for years to come. I do think/hope she'll be competing and with the depth in Russia she will have to work her tail off to stay relevant. I believe this more than anything will be a driving force to keep her on top of her game and in turn keep improving upon herself. Taking into account her past record of consistency to podium I see no reason to expect much less out of her. Mao and Yuna continued on long after such a young age and were able to stay on top. Yulia will only be 19 in 2018. I hope she is at the next olympic games and still a wow factor! Nothing wrong with a little hope IMO. No matter what she places in the Ladies Individual I'm just happy to watch her skate.

If Murakami and I/K medal, junior world 2010 would be the most star making junior world in recent year.

Mrs P you alwayscome up with absolutely fascinating stuff. The number crunching is so revealing, and this is like looking back at a HS yearbook 4 years after graduating. Any chance of an update on the dancers from Vancouver?
