I'm curious what in particular fellow GSers can't wait to see in the new season. (Sorry if there already is a thread for this; I couldn't find one)
Here's my personal list, in no particular order:
- upcoming program reveals. I can't wait to see what Hanyu, Kolyada, Papadakis/Cizeron, Gilles/Poirier, Gold and others have chosen for this season. And Fernandez, I wonder what he chooses for his last competitive season.
- if Yuzuru Hanyu manages to land a 4A. I'm torn on this though, I don't want an injury to happen...
- comeback announcements of skaters who decide to stick around for a little longer (Ashley Wagner? Mirai Nagasu? Marchei and Hotarek? Cappellini and Lanotte, pretty plase?)
- who, if anyone, succeeds Cappellini/Lanotte and Marchei/Hotarek as masters of fun galas. Maybe Hawayek/Baker since their last gala was awesome?
- Xiangning Li competing in two categories on the GP circuit. Fingers crossed for her, if she does manage it it'll be a first I think?
- juniors debuting on the senior GP. It will be my first time seeing them, and I'm looking forward to watching Eun Soo Lim, Rika Kihira, the young Russian pairs and others for the first time.
- all new names on the GP circuit. Finally I can see them on the TV screen in good resolution, hopefully.
- Sota Yamamoto's programs performed in front of the home crowd (I so hope he's chosen for NHK!) on a big stage
- the battle for the third Worlds spot among the Japanese men (Tomono or Takahashi or Tanaka?), not to mention the Japanese ladies (too many to name). It's going to be epic.
- the GP crowd in Finland
- how Evgenia Medvedeva and Jason Brown do under Orser
- a comparison of the coaching change progress in the case of Scimeca-Knierim/Knierim vs Tarasova/Morozov at SA, and Medvedeva vs Tursynbaeva at SC
- who becomes dominant among the Canadian men and dance couples: will Gilles/Poirier catch up with Weaver/Poje? And who becomes the #1 man, Nguyen, Messing, Reynolds, or someone new?
- comeback skaters: Daisuke Takahashi and Gracie Gold. Fingers crossed!
- with so many splits, retirements and absences in the first part of the season, the entire Pairs field. Who rises to the occassion and advances to the GP Final?
- who becomes the new US #1 in ice dance. Hubbell/Donohue or Chock/Bates?
- programs performed to little used music. I'm grateful to all skaters who have chosen such music this season. Fingers especially crossed for Sergei Voronov's free because of Denis' choreo.
- who of the recently retired skaters starts coaching full-time. I know about Aliona Savchenko, and Meagan Duhamel seems to have passed a tech specialist course(?) - now, who else?
- the ladies' 3A. Fingers especially crossed for Elizaveta Tuktamysheva who is now the veteran among the 3A ladies.
- who of the European skaters can challenge the Russian dominance at European Championships in ladies and men. With Fernandez retiring, and I'm not sure about Kostner's plans, I'm really looking forward to seeing new European talents step up.
