2014 Cup of China Mens Free Skate 11/08

Watching this competition I had the odd picture: What would happen if there was a competitor rotating quads like crazy but never landing them. How far would he get in this current system, if he had a bit of artistry?

50.4 TES counting the -1 deductions (58.4 without), not including spinsetc so, no where really, excluding a GP event.

He already did two 3A's and two 3Lz's. He could not do 3F two times. It should be only 2A.

Oh thank you. I didn't realize.

Edit: I just realized Misha could have made the podium if his flip was counted. Shows how crazy this competiton was.

Fallen elements should just not be counted and we'd solve out the problem. A fall it's a huge mistake and it should also have some effects on the performance mark, it's just way more distracting then an underrotation or a popped jump.

It does get pretty severe reductions. The problem is that -1 point for a quad has much less of an effect than a -1 point for a triple or double jump.

He didn't have to. He could have just withdrawn and that's that.

Plushenko at Sochi. Olympics, home crowd. he didn't even think about it. Immediate decision to withdraw.

That's one instance. Plushenko has skated plenty with injuries before Sochi. And he wasn't a teenager anymore so he was also wiser in knowing his own body's limitations.

I really appreciate the grown adults blaming a concussed kid (who has probably no idea what is going on because guess what HE'S FLIPPING CONCUSSED). Blame the judges, coaches, officials, the adults who could have stopped this mess. Congratulations, I'm not sure who I'm not sure who I'm disgusted by more you "fans" or this sport as a whole. I guess I'll take both. Some of you are acting like Yuzuru bribed the judges. Instead of worrying about the health of two skaters, we're all sitting around screaming about scoring, which would have never have happened if we had actual competent adults around to tell these guys to get off the ice. Can we focus on the lack of safety guidelines? I'm disgusted. Also for some of you concerned about this protocol crap and blaming the skater for causing the scoring issues by himself, you all need your heads checked as well.

Let's just pray and hope the 2 of them are well, or going to be well...

And I guess they did have the will and determination to do what they set out to do for, which I guess they stuck to it till the end. This was partly admirable but whether this decision was good or bad, stupid or wise, whatever. I guess it doesnt really matter anymore in this grand scheme of things.

I only hope they are going to be well and healthy, cause there is so much more in life and so much we have not seen from them.

O think that they need to increase negative GOE for the quads OR lower the base value of jumps. In saying that, there has to be enough insentive formskaters to go for the quad. Also, we all cant have clean skates all the time.

Exactly my thoughts. And it should be also automatic deduction from SS score for example. I think it would be fair. And no one would be jumping quads before they master them :)

What is your point? Maybe he made mistakes in the past, but those still were -MISTAKES-.

I literally don't see a single post like what you just described.

It's not responsible. And it should -not- be respectable. You'll have people ruining their careers by worsening their injuries because of this kind of a thing.

right... watching tons of hours of figure skating doesn't make anyone a better judge than those who are actually there, ie, the hanyu team.

how on earth does a tech fall have anything to do with SS; dedcutions from other PCS I understand and agree with

Plushenko haa always been in it for himself and nobody else, come on, and he was probably planning on withdrawing from that event every since he was name to the team, There was an article about before the olympics even started.

Thats true. But at the same time, if there was not enough insentive to do a quad, no one or vary few skaters will do a quad. A quad or multiple quads are necessary in mens skating.

THIS. I'm disgusted with the talk of Hanyuflation.

Totally agree. People here are all adults, and look at what they say about a kid.
I can't take this anymore. I am out.

I'm concerned that Hanyu seems to put so much emphasis on this competition. He's crying as if his dkating career was on the line. It's only a GP event after all...
If he didn't skated here or placed 4th or below he had no chance of qualifying for the GP Final, and he wants to defend his title.Which is really stupid of him, there's a grand prix final next year, and the year after that

I hope he and Yan are at least smart enough to skip gala, they looked like they could pass out any time

The head coach or whoever makes the decision should have the power if the skater himself doesn't realize it.

I honestly don't know how this has anything to do with figure skating. If an ice hockey player has a concussion, they don't play. It's not a figure skating thing. It's not even a sports thing.

All of these posts have blamed 3 people:

1. Brian Orser-- coach
2. Judges-- for his overinflated scores
3. Han Yan-- for some RIDICULOUS reason because he got hurt, too

I don't recall anyone blaming Yuzu.

For example, I primarily blame Orser for placing his and Yuzu's pride before his health.

Reminder: 'Hanyuflation' isn't Hanyu's fault. It's the judges.
