Elizaveta Tuktamysheva

I agree with you on this point. But I think Russian Fed. would want Yulia to be there.

Julia is having a post Olympic period hungover like most OGM, I think she will struggle throughout this season and come back strong next year

btw there is something a trend Julia follows, look at her season closely it always just interchanges
she was breakout star in 2009, 2010 she got injured at juniors nats, 2011 JGP debut,2012 struggles, 2013 rise, 2014 struggle again
Im sure she will be back in 2015, 2016 will be a problem for her again, 2017 might be good again for her.

^...Hmm, well, if you're right Yulia will be okay for the next Olympics! (And please, Liza, stay healthy and be there too!)

And now I think...had only Artur didn't leave Mishin the great. He might have been just like Liza right now.
The thought crossed my mind as well, but we can't say for sure. Coach and pupil need trust for things to work. As we've seen from the interviews, not only did Liza stay, but she never considered leaving. The situation is different for Artur.

Im sure Julia has noticed this too
I have noticed this since 2012 but just confirmed it in her 2014 struggles, its seems she doesn't do well with even years
but this might be good for her 2017-18 Olympic hopes though. also Julia has never placed lower than 5th in any competition like Sasha Cohen's record ?

Good luck to Tuk in GPF, she looks in great form this season

Thank you!!!!

Thank you !!! I didn't know this book! I knew that Mishin is amazing, this is the reason why I always was so angry when some poster wrote about him: he is hard, strict, cruel, scary ......he is an adorable, smart person with unique humour...
Yup, that annoys me too. Mishin is certainly not stricter than the average Russian or Asian coach.
And now I think...had only Artur didn't leave Mishin the great. He might have been just like Liza right now.
The difference between the two is that Liza has deep trust in Mishin and due to her personality and family background, she understood and accepted that last season, whether wrongly or rightly so, Plushenko took up much of Mishin's time. She understood and waited. The whispers that she would be better off with another coach did not affect her. Artur did not see things that way. Whether Artur made the right or wrong decision remains to be seen and is for another thread. But his departure left an opening for another Artur to return to camp Mishin.

he doesnt need Gahinski because he has Petrov and Gumennik

Artur may have felt he had hit a wall with Mishin and they weren't communicating well any more. I think Mishin is one of the best coaches in the world, but it doesn't necessarily mean he is the right coach for everyone at every point of their career. Artur felt he needed to change something, and it's still too early to say that he made a mistake. It's not like he was doing so well the past couple seasons either.

It is not an issue of "need" or "doesn't need", they are not products or tools. When Liza was skating poorly, you were also the same person who insisted that Mishin no longer "needed" Liza and would dump her for Nugumanova. So you should stop talking like that.

need because if Mishin did, he would have done everything to keep Gachinski like with Tuk
when Tuk was struggling she said many suggested to Mishin to give up on her but Mishin did not let go of her and still believed in her
he could have done the same for Gachinski but he didnt. Gumennik is talented young boy , so is Petrov

I think what was essential for Liza was having a coach that even when she lost confidence in herself, didn't lose confidence in her. Mr Mishin strikes me as a very calm person, who doesn't much care what other people think - he isn't going to be flustered by thinking that his students doing badly will reflect badly on him. That people assume when a skater isn't doing well, it must the coach's fault. He knows that there are ups and downs, and things change. He can wait.

How awesome that Liza has guaranteed a place at the GPF!

I think doing all of those Challenger events was a very smart choice to get her mojo back, so by the time she hit the GP circuit, she had already competed and got her confidence back. Now she can prepare for the GPF while all the others scramble to compete with her!

This shows that you can't count someone out b/c of a growth spurt, puberty or a bad season or two.

(I still look at her and think Elizabeth Taylor though - it's the costumes, especially!)

I adore Elizaveta this season so much! She is so different from the rest of the fields and came back even stronger with a great technique, maturity, and the quirky artistry added. I was worried about her COC short program as she looked so tired at the end of the program. Even though she was not leading, two points behind from her competitor, she came out for her long program without any sign of fatigue or nervousness and delivered it. Congratulations!! I like her even better that she does not get intimidated by the ambitious layout of other competitors at the competition and does what she has been prepared for. I do not know how Russian media treat her. But to me, she is a star of perseverance and a WC of very near future!

Plus, she keeps herself out of the turmoil regarding the medal ceremony at COC. She does not speak up for/against anyone and let the heat cool down. Great Elizaveta! Even more likable!

Mishin does seem like a great coach. I can't help but giggle at how proud he looks while holding the ridiculous broccoli stuffed toy at the Kiss and Cry. He's one of the few male Russian coaches that I don't get a sleazy vibe from like Morozov and Zhulin. *shudders*

Mishin is super cute. Lol Liza is lucky to have him as her coach.

No, I definitely get a fatherly/grandfatherly feel from him - a very proud grandfather. :)

By the way, is it me, or does he seem fresher than ever? For a few years he looked a little tired, as if the years were catching up with him, but now I thought he looked poisitively... dapper; in his coat and check shirt. :)

No. Artur's problems went a lot deeper than Liza's. His injuries were just as much of the mind as of the body. Or, as he put it, sometimes things just...stop working.

Thank you, Alba! Really interesting article - though OT to this thread, and I don't mean to start a discussion on it here, but just noting that the question on the shorter preparation time and new zayaking rules was especially interesting to me.
