Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Good translation of an article, interesting read...
Yuzu unable to complete his training regimen set out by Brian due to JSF commitments....would definitely impact his performance....

I hope Yuzuru will drop out of NHK, not go to GPF and wait until National. His health is more important than those medals.

This part worries me a lot:

a person had revealed that Hanyu had not finished the training schedule that his coach, Brian Orser, had designed for him before he competed at the Cup of China. “The Japan Skating Federation disregarded the training regime that Brian had designed for Hanyu, and had insisted on the latter partake in more than 50 ice shows during the off-season that was originally intended for rest. The slot left by Mao Asada and Daisuke Takahashi’s retirement/break was filled in by Hanyu.” The Japan Skating Federation has used Hanyu as their new money making tree, and had hopes that ge would save figure skating from the market crisis. As a result, Hanyu had to momentarily leave his training in Canada to return to Japan for ice shows. Brian Orser was extremely unpleased, and had protested that “If you push him to this extent, there’s a high chance that you’ll destroy his figure skating life!” Towards this, the Japan Skating Federation responded saying that “We understand the coach’s earnest,” but did not try and minimize Hanyu’s appearances in the ice shows.

But why did he have to attend countless of ice shows? The well-mannered Hanyu had said that it was “To repay each and every fan for their support”, but in reality, this has resulted in him not having enough training time. “He actually finds this very troubling as well.” A ticket for an ice show is worth an estimated ¥10,000 JPY, which is equivalent to around ¥530 RMB ($87 USD). A single ice show’s total earnings from ticket revenue can sum up to a shocking ¥280,000,000 JPY, which is equivalent to about ¥14,840,000 RMB ($2,422,382 USD). “Endorsement and performance earnings are split so that the JSF gets 70% of the total earnings. However, because the broker operators also require a portion, the skater is left with a mere 10%.”

^So they want these skaters to sacrifice their bodies doing all these shows/endorsements, and they only get 10% while JSF gets 70%?  :bang:

Poor Hanyu. And I hope Mao, like Dai, officially retires so any endorsement money she'll continue to make, won't have to be split with the JSF.

This news clip has been posted on 10th by Newbiespectator. Now it is an version with English subtitle. It included the collision, LP and an interview with Hanyu directly after his performance by Matsuoka.

The interview was from 5min23sec.

ps.

There is one mistake at the end: NOT "he looked like a lost child (maigo)", but "I was right beside (mayoko) them all the way" at the 2nd warm-up. (according Angel Yuzu at FB)

How did Yuzu himself made his POTO new layout during second 6 minutes warm-up? Here are several gifs telling this process.

While I saw this process, I knew he tried everything he could to get best results with smart and clear thoughts. He didn't just went out and skate in reckless!

the most impressive thing about this is that he was able to do all this reconstruction and rearrangement under a lot of pain and time pressure. His focus is brilliant.

:disapp: unfortunately not surprised, but how trustful is this information?

Do you recall how many times we asked during the summer period if Yuzuru was already in Toronto training just to get the news that he would appear in a new exhibition or follow another endorsement event or a public duty?

I don't care where the information come from. It is the truth Yuzu did attend more than 50 shows this summer and make a least 5 CM. He did fly back and forth between Japan and Toronto. He did have less time to prepare his new season. These are the truth we knew already. I think JSF should review their policies of arrangements commercial activities for skaters. JSF can't avoid their responsibility by saying all those out of Yuzu's willingness. JSF should be responsible for protecting their athletes not just use them as money-making machine.

This is embarassing, and I don't know what JSF is thinking about. How they think someone can attent 50 ice shows, and train at the same time. Really Yuzuru should be more assertive as say big NO to half of them

Yuzuru said many times he wanted to perform in ice shows to thank people who supported him. We probably can't say he was forced by JSF to those crazy schedule. He already chose to do something like that in 2011 summer when he lost his hometown rink, and refused some offers to use other rinks in Japan and abroad .

If I'm not wrong, Yuzuru has been coachless since April , throughout spring and summer time, except 2 +2 weeks in May and August. Then it is unknown when he was back to Canada .

In the hypothesys he will resume his training and compete in NHK event, he'll probably continue to be coachless , unless a canadian coach moves to Japan or they get a japanese coach, then after 11 days GPF will start (December 11) , after other 10 days JN will start either (Dicember 24) … there's the risk to remain coachless in off season as well as in the first part of the new season actually , which is akward and worrying since this boy is an OGM .

It's true that he wanted to perform. But I believe that there was an obilgation for him to do so. I've heard that about Mao and Dai before- they were supposed to take part in events, suppose to do shows. I think JFS has to get a public response on what kind of pressure they put on a sole figure skater now only because he is an Olympic champion. And what you said about him being coachless is also true and worrisome. How do they expect him to progress if he is not allowed to be properly coached? How he would be able to stay in top form if he is constantly being streched in way too many directions? Does he have time for studies now at all? He's a diligent student. Or he used to be. He needs to have a proper rest. Is he being protected by Japanese laws on this matter at all- he is still a kid!

It's beyond amazing and worrying he's still progressing and training new quads by himself... but it's also a big waste of time and talent unfortunately..

Okay, anyone has the timeline of his summer? IIRC then Yuzuru went to Canada for his new programs for about 2-3 week in May. He came back in June. July he's still in Japan? Then maybe at the end August he went to Canada and stayed there until CoC? If so I don't think he was coachless for too long.

This is very rough timeline, need some correction.

14 May
Went to Canada after WC and spring ice shows in Japan.

31 May
Photo with S-L Bourne.

1 June
Yuzuru is in Japan again.
Shows, shows and shows with other activities.

5-7 July
Orser and Buttle were in Japan for FaOI in Niigata.

21 July
Yuzuru was spotted at the backstage of The ICE.

?? July
Went to Canada.

28 July
Vittorio from the Club put new photo with Yuzu at Facebook.

7 August
Open practice with Japanese press.

I think after that Yuzuru went to Japan alone, 'cause Orser and others were at the summer camp on Muskoka lake without Yuzuru (August, 20 - Orser did his Ice Bucket challenge there)

23 August
Yuzu did his Ice bucket challenge already in Japan.

30 August
24 jikan terebi - LIVE from Japan

~9 September
Yuzuru returned to Toronto and injured his back.

23 September
Officially WD from Finlandia Trophy

So, he spent in Toronto
~ two weeks in May (his SP and FS were choreographed at that time)
~ three weeks in July-August
~ stayed there at least since 9th September till CoC

As far as I know there were no official news/pics /footages etc on the day he went back to Canada after his last show in Japan at the very end of August.

Is this what some commentator said looked like disoriented hand-miming? I do this very same thing when I am in a store shopping.. :)

So he stayed at Canada for about 14 weeks, and we should deduct the time he's injured. I guess the time he worked with Orser for about 12~13 weeks. That's about 3 months under his coach care. Is that enough for him to prepare for the new season?

yes, I believe she was referring to that.

Thanks. I thought she'd been referring to something more alarming that I had missed. He probably was dizzy or even disoriented, but I don't think there's anything strange about his hand movements. :confused2:

Yes, it's true, we don't have the exact dates, nevertheless:

1) live performance at Hachinohe (it wasn't really a show) was on 30th August during 24 hour TV marathon, so it's definite Yuzu was in Japan on 30-31.

2) Brian Orser in his interview said: "He spent only two or three weeks in Toronto over the summer, but he’s been training there for the past three weeks. "
http://bevsmithwrites.wordpress.com/2014/10/14/orser-coming-home-to-autumn-classic/
The interview was taken around 30th September, so:
30 - (7 x 3) = 9 September
Yuzuru was in Toronto at least since 9th September.

I believe (or rather I hope), Yuzuru spent some time between 30 August - 9 September on long awaited vacation with his family.
