2014 Trophée Eric Bompard Ladies FS 11/22

I notice that Haruka has an ardent fan who gave her presents both yesterday and today and she was so sweet to her fans. Can anyone enlighten me why her Stsq wasn't counted?

I am not an "ardent Yuna critic." She is a superb jumper and was robbed at Sochi. Her Homage to Korea is one of my all-time favorites. But she often won with lesser jump content (5 or 6 triples and no loop) and I often found her presentation cold. Elena did 7 triples and performed the heck out of her program. We'll see if she approaches Yuna's greatness over her career. But I do not miss Yuna, especially her seemingly pained if perfect performances in recent years.

Agreed about the pained performances, but Kim's quality of jumps (and skating) was second to none other. She might've lacked the loop, but her 3-3 was the best, so it isn't like she's dialling it in, tech wise.

^^^^ Queen Yuna was not competing here. I don't mind comparing the old to the new, but can we not make this Yuna Kim against the entire field, because if we want to be honest No One compares because they are new new. It took Yuna years to be great... Give Elena time

lol.. right.. and elena's (oh btw the way she has a potential) 7 triples are incredible to watch.. out of this world..better than yuna's technique ever.. no one can come close..okay... :p

I want to say Gracie Gold. However, it's also true that while Gracie has better techniques, Rika seems to hold her nerves stronger. Only if Gracie can handle the mental pressure... sigh.... I mean she could be so good! The potential she has...

Ashley is building her case to reclaim her crown.

Which moron is blowing the vuvuzela?

I missed the women skate (in favor of getting some sleep). I had been disappointed about this, but if there were vuvuzelas.... :disagree:

I don't. Elena out performed and out-jumped most of Yuna's performances today.

Different tastes I suppose ;)

This is a sad day for me, Meryl Streep got beaten up by Dakota Fannings.
os168, you & Pamina crack me up!

Well here is an example of her 7 triples program around Elena's age at CoR 2007 (She got WR 133.70 here). Anyone know how I can obtain these protocols? I'd be very curious on comparing the PCS.

It is true this sport favours the young and it is a different era now. Every skater is different, and they all have unique attributes which makes them competitive. I would never blame any skater omit any jump if they can aggravate injuries, shorten their skating career or simply because if they are inconsistent. It is about what you can do to the best of your ability and if your merits are big and strong enough to win over your competitors fairly. Yuna's wins have all been worthy and never been saved by her reputation or takes things easy as you seems to have implied here. She has never dumbed down her content and had consistently put out 2 lutz and the hardest 3lz3t combo in her later career FS including B competitions. I can make an argument it is one of the many reasons why many of youngsters today have at least a 3f/3t or 3lz/3t in their arsenal including Elena, Liza, Gold because it is THE standard set during Kim's era. It is also extremely convenient for you to look over other great aspect of her skating beyond the 3loop as if they simply doesn't matter, in what areas of PCS for example do you think she is inferior to Elena here?

Don't get me wrong, I l enjoy Elena, but she skate young still, she has youth on her side for the moment, but lets see how long she can keep it up. Has she had her growth spurts yet? I think she has enormous potential but I do think judges are jumping the gun with separating her and Julia too much in this competition. IMO, they are not that far apart as far their marks seem to indicate... it feels rather artificial if I can be honest. Julia last year were just as strong as well and her FS program was better than Elena's here. Her package is certainly better and more convincing.

If I was put my conspiracy tin hat on, it almost felt like someone high up is not too happy about Julia's rise, and she may prove to be too much of a competition (& popularity) to Adelina, so they want to remove her at any excuse possible and have Elena as #2 instead, since Adelina should theoretically beat Elena if both go clean at home, with Julia it is less certain.

I am really getting worried about Julia. She always gave me the impression of being a very quiet girl, very introverted. A bit like I have always tended to be in real life (except, I'm not a girl!) She is clearly not coping with all the attention she is getting, and she is not enjoying her skating any more.

Can't remember whether it was Nicky or Chris, but one of the British Eurosport commentators said that Julia has been suffering from depression. Somebody on here tried to dismiss it as rubbish, but from what I have seen recently, I would believe it.

If you look into Julia's eyes, there is nothing there. They are just blank. The spark that used to be there is gone.

Personally, I can envisage her quitting the sport very soon. Which would be a great shame for somebody with as much talent as her. But, with all the attention she is getting from being in the sport, getting out might be what she needs to get her general wellbeing back in order.

If somebody is depressed, being nasty towards them is the last thing they need. So, I hope that all those people who are being nasty towards her back off.

If you're directing this at me, then I stand by what I say. Julia never claimed to have been depressed nor is depression something you should be diagnosing from 'the look in her eyes'. That said, I understand that skaters go through their shares of trials and tribulations. Julia is going through a rough season (as most post-Olympic seasons tend to be), and I hope she's getting the emotional support she needs from her team to get her back into the swing of things. But beyond her difficulties as an athlete I find no reason for anyone to make speculations about Julia's mental health and her life off-ice. That's not for us to assume (and seriously, shame on the twitter user who purposely misquoted that article in the first place).

While Elena is my favourite female (russian) skater of the currently competing field, I'm torn on her programs this season. I preferred last seasons SP which was super. And the LP, I even liked that more as well.

Julia on the other hand, I'm glad she didn't go for another season of Schindler's List. I like both of her programs better this year. I also don't see her done. She is not always going to be on top and it's better for her if she can learn to live with a disappointment. Second place at a Grand Prix is nothing to be ashamed of and she is going to the final which she still has a chance of winning.

I think Elena would even be ecstatic with a podium finish, second or third as well. She always looks happy to be there.

I have to agree, Sackie, that Ashley was over scored. I am liking that LP a little bit more but they were more lenient on the technical side and very generous with the artistic marks for Ashley. Mira ends with 106 or something like that with similar content and Ashley gets 116. Christmas has come early for Ms. Wagner!

In a fiekd with technicaly superior jumpers without the sophistication and skating skills of The Goddess Kostner, I think the judges are looking to Ashley to fill that void. She does deserve higher PCS, but how much higher because she is no Kostner

Oh, Ashley made it look like she was being really helpful towards the youngsters when they were getting off the podium by directing them where to go.

However, she was being really bitchy towards Julia earlier in the ceremony.

Julia thought they were to all get onto the top step for the photographers (like they do in motorsports). But when she was getting up, Ashley gave her a very stern look and dramatically pointed towards the 2nd place step.

CaroLiza_fan

I've watched the video of the ceremony and I personally don't see Ashley's look towards Julia as being bitchy but it's not easy to tell from that angle. Anw, I don't want to look too much into a single gesture. Julia is not good at English so Ashley might have to be more dramatic in her signa so that Julia could understand . The way Ashley showed the young girls how to pose for photos reminds me of the moment when the gymnastics queen Svetlana Khorkina was beaten by Carly Patterson, who was 9 years her junior at the Olympics 2004 and Khorkina said something suspicious to Khorkina. 10 years lately, Patterson revealed that Khorkina was simply telling her to adjust the way she held the gold medal for photos ;).

Why are people saying Yulia is depressed? In her interview she said her life was constant stress. Being stressed is not at all the same thing. She looks quite capable being happy to me.

The girl is just learning/breaking in some new boots as part of a long term strategy in terms of health issues. She was in constant pain and always having issues with adjusting things. If she can fix her boot issues and get comfortable with her new pair which she describes as feeling like slippers then she is learning to reduce a major stress in her life to boot ;)

I do not want to guess if Julia is depress or not, but it doesn't means that people with depression would lose the ability to smile. You can be happy for a moment and then the depress feeling come back.

Because some sleazy website used that headline to get views😁

I read it differently. I thought Alba was just just tapping Julia in the arm, in a "well done, love" sort of a way.

If you're right, I feel really disappointed for her.

CaroLiza_fan

Don't be  I didn't even try to hug her. I told her she is our giulietta that she is great and vive her a caress with The present. She was the most kind and tender person I've seen. I thing stryke decided to make his/her own movie.

Oh Alba, you are back already?? Tell me tell me about it!!!

I don't see anything wrong with Radionova's PCS. Entirely deserved score. Nothing compared to Kostner's 50+ TES coupled with 70+ PCS programs.

OMG!!! That Ceremony. If it weren't for the techno lounge version of a daft punk song from 2000 I would have called the whole thing a waste of time. I actually thought the Ashley and Yulia thing was cute. Yulia doesn't speak French or English and just seemed so awkwardly lost as she always does at these things. So Yulia jumps on Elena's podium expecting it to be picture time. She looked over at Ashley like..."why aren't you up here for our photo with Elena" and Ashley was all like "girl what are you doing???..get down off of there". Then Elena's name was announced and Yulia realized she was really throwing a wrench into this whole techno award thingy and promptly jumped off and maybe a bit embarrassed. I think Yulia and Ashley actually laughed a bit about it.

Ashley was probably thinking something along the line of "these sonograms would be lost without me" and the baby Russians were just glad there babysitter came to see them through it. :) I hate award ceremonies for the main reason I love them. Seeing other people feel awkward! ;)

Agreed. Radionova has worked very hard to improve her artistry and 65 PCS for a perfect skate is fine for her. It's astounding how many people scream overscored when she did two perfect skates. Like, what more do you want. 71 TES and 55 PCS?! The system should be rewarding the rare perfect skates.
