Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

The Chinese fans did a great job in compiling videos (with behind the scenes which I cannot find in youtube) and providing Chinese subtitle. Unfortunately my Youkou does not work well in my computer and I can only see the first 5 mins of this video . Does anyone know if this video is hosted in youtube or daily motion ?

http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XODQ5ODkxOTQ4.html

Thank you very much for the link. I am sorry it did not work well on your computer, but I was able to view the entire video without any problem. I did not find the video on youtube yet.

By the way, it appears that 松冈 San thinks that Kovtun will be Yuzu’s strongest rival in the near future, especially in terms of the jumps? I would like to hear what the fans here think about this statement.

Looks like Hanyu's collision with Han Yan made it to their archive of 'funny' mistakes.
Ugh. I really didn't want to see that again, and certainly not with weird funny music playing over it. *disgusted*
an accident that makes every other person scream for new regulations regarding head injuries in figure skating :sarcasm: I can totally see how that has "funny" written all over it
:rolleye:

It did give me the chance to see that incredibly gorgeous costume of his again. I need to find me some pictures of that. :-)

I also found that those golden flowers are quite similar on both costumes, Yuzu's being larger and wilder though.
Sorry for shattering your dream but aside from the color and being..eh flowers, I see no connection at all. Even the shape of those flowers look different.

Hey Pamina, you and I are now famous, *lol* Just kidding, but Eurosport aired all the SPs in Holland after all (? I didn't think they were going to) and right after Hanyu's SP, when Voronov is announced, there we are. Me with a scarily big grin, well, I'm sure I can be excused for looking that silly, after all, I'd just seen Hanyu go mad with joy. ;-)

interview took place at airport today, from a-m-n-o-s tumblr , saw a discussion on fb group some of the fans were upset he didnt greet them back, hopefully they will read this interview and understand him

If they found him heading back to his hotel or after his practice sessions, then they met him at the wrong time. I think just seeing fans that were non-Japanese crowding around him was something he was overwhelmed by. He probably didn't know how to respond back but deep down I believe he was thankful for their support. I am sorry to hear about those fans' experiences. It did sound upsetting. I probably would had reacted like they did BUT of course would later brush it off and see it as a cultural/language barrier as to why Yuzuru seemed "cold".

it is upsetting that they didnt get the attention they were hoping but writing someone off shouldnt be easy, he is there for reason and he should be focused on that, besides we all have off days that we dont want to talk to anyone, doesnt mean we are cold, the pressure he puts on himself is enough to keep his mind occupied, we all know how yuzu treats his fans at ice shows, responding and thanking to the fans even at back seats not just front ones, always bows before he leaves the ice, they did say they overreacted at later posts but again i think shouldnt have said those things at 1st place

Yuzu & Shoma acting like twins

This gif with Shoma sums up his S personality

And this article tells Yuzu's childhood anecdote. According to a translation I saw, it says Yuzu used to fight, not even once, with those seniors at ice rink when he was in primary school. Though often lost, he was never intimidated and he would often yelled something like "who says I will lose to you?!" before the fight. I find this amusing and I like this another side of him.

I think Newbiespectator meant literally in the same year (not season)? I think he is the first because every OGM either retired right after the olympic season or didn't compete the next season. He's really the first OGM to compete the following season of an olympic season in a long time. :jaw:

Yuzuru is the first person to win all three championships – Grand Prix Final, Olympics and World Championships – in the same season (2013-2014) since Alexei Yagudin accomplished the same thing 12 years before in the 2001-2002 season.

Yuzuru won the 2013-2014 Grand Prix Final (Fukuoka) which was in December, 2013. He followed with his Olympic (Sochi) gold in February, 2014. He won the World Championships (Saitama) in March, 2014.

Alexei Yagudin won the 2001-2002 Grand Prix Final (Kitchener, Ontario) which was in December, 2001. He followed with his Olympic (Salt Lake City) gold in February, 2002. He won the World Championships (Nagano) in March, 2002.

I was revering to the GPF the season AFTER the Olympic win. No one had competed in the following GPF (same year different season) after winning olympic gold, therefore, Hanyu is the first to win Olympics, Worlds and the next season, GPF again.

If Yuzuru had an urgent business to attend to, then I think it's fine for him to avoid his fans. I don't know what the story is that made fans upset towards Yuzuru, but like I said, they probably met him in the wrong place at the wrong time. Regarding those fans, I can see why they were upset. They travelled many miles to see Yuzuru and didn't get the reaction they were hoping for from him. I would be disappointed and confused, but NO WAY will I conclude that he's a bad person all because of that one encounter. I guess this is a lesson for us that if we ever do meet Yuzuru in person, we shouldn't expect too much from him. Nonetheless, I still think it has to do with the language barrier, and maybe also the first time he's been approached by many fans who aren't Japanese (or Asian). Hopefully this experience can make him fully aware that not only does he have a fanbase in Asia, but also in Western countries. I really do want to meet Yuzuru when Worlds 2016 comes by, so I hope his experience in Barcelona can make him open up more towards his foreign fans

I agree. Seeing this gif, I fully understand that the boy needs some personal time.

As much as I fan-girl over Hanyu...I just feel that expecting athletes to give you personally the time of day when they may be trying to concentrate on their sport is asking a bit too much.
If they do, then it's great! Wonderful and you should feel very lucky. But if they don't well, you don't know how exhausted they are or what pain they may be in, what they are trying to concentrate on. It's amazing that Hanyu is as nice as he is to those around him. Maybe he had a moment when he just couldn't give any more. I'd totally understand that. -These are athletes and not singers or pop icons. Their job is to skate as well as they can. Imagine how alarming it could be for someone to have NO down time because every time they leave their house someone wants something from them.

Even pop icons should have their privacy respected as much as possible I think. --Maybe it's just me?

Completely agree! I wonder if fans are considering just much pressure they are putting on him? I heard that there were long lines of fans flanking the skating arena exit and at the skaters hotel entrance. Many fans were waiting inside the hotel lobby and there was a commotion when he walked through to the elevator.

ITA. It is entitlement to think that an athlete (no matter what level, but especially someone like Hanyu who is hounded by the media enough already) owes you personal time and acknowledgement, and then to go on and complain about it online is immature. To some extent I can understand feeling disappointed, but especially if it is a non-official fanmeet like when he is obviously on his way to get somewhere, or in the middle of a competition then fans really shouldn't have any expectations. He obviously makes efforts to interact with fans when he can, but he isn't a pop star nor is he an infinitely giving angel. As both a human and an athlete, he needs to put himself first sometimes.

Is there a link to this facebook conversation? I think I've only looked at that FB group once and then promptly left :p

I think fans should understand that the most important thing is Yuzuru´s safety.

After the GPF you can see a gif where a lot of people just literally came running after him, obviously it not safe for Yuzuru and the fans to meet in this conditions. (Can´t find the video, but I´m sure is the one this caption was taked of)
Second Yuzuru is a sportman, not an idol, he is there to compete. Not to sign, if he has time and conditions are optimal I´m sure he will do.
Third, he is not gonna made everybody happy all the time. Even if he stop to sign autograph, with the volume of people he can´r reach them all, so people is gonna be mad anyway.
Fourth, I´m sure he still needs to recover after his injury, these were injuries that need it at least 3 weeks for a normal person to heal. Yuzuru is pushing, but even in his ex program he only did triples because he knows his body still needs time, so to ask him to put his health at risk is rather selfish of these "fans".

This year I read that Mao isn´t allowed to go out, I´m guessing Yuzuru is reaching this point when going out could be dangerous for him, so to stop in an airport or in the middle of the street will be a no-no. Remember that even in NHK he has his on private security to made sure he was safe.

On a happier note, Sarah Alainn congratulated Yuzuru

And big super big poster of Yuzuru

Sarah Alainn was a much better fit than the other Jpop star they had for the show at the beginning. I felt Hiromi Go was a bit disconnected from the figure skaters not to mention he couldn't sing on key to save his life! -Annoying.

Sarah, on the other hand was a big figure skating fan, has perfect pitch, can play the violin and really brought it all together. Her collaboration for Final Time Traveler with Hanyu is a dream.
Sorry for ranting.

I hope they use Sarah again for the live singer at more ice shows.

Ye, you told everything, but just adding. I can understand that those fans can be dissapointed but really, there are hundreds of other people that just want to run to him, and besides his private time etc it is just simply dangerous. You never know ho are you going to meet especially that he is recognizable, so they should understand.
And to end he is there in competition mood, and also as anyone wants to have his own private space.

:agree: for everything you said. People need to remember that he is an athlete first, not a pop icon/personality. He was focused on doing his job - skating, and he did just that. Personally, if I went to see him skate live, I would have been plenty content getting to see Hanyu's SP and FS and the joy that he exhibited afterwards.
