Russian Ladies Team for EC 2015: facts, speculations and drama

I've followed all of the listed links and found this interesting one among them: a poll that asks about whether Sotnikova should be allowed to Euro without competitions or stick to the rule.

Only 33 percentage of the vote with about 5000 people agrees upon the legitimacy for her going to Euro without competitions. http://www.sports.ru/poll/others/figure-skating/1025899595.html

I think the poll should be mentioned as well for people here to get good understating of what's going on. ;)

No way. Here's for Liza, Lena and Leonova going 1-2-3.
I might support Lip and Pogo's cause for JWC though :p

I think, even If Leonova very surprisingly manages to get 3. There is no way that they are gonna send her over Adelina nontheless.
Out of Liza, Elena, Yulia, Anna and Leonova, Leonova has by far the weakest case.

Does anybody else think that the PCS of the Russian Nationals are kinda decided before hand?
I'm not talking conspiracy, but it's clear that the judges are influenced by the season so far and fed's favorites always got a very comfortable PCS boost in the past years.

That's why I kinda worry that, while in my opinion Tutberitze proved herself as the more loyal, protective coach, Tsareva's move to kindly agree with Lakernik and so on, could have been the politicking-wise smarter choice. ..
Of course all of this is a far catch, but in FS these things exist.

I haven't figured out how I feel about this situation yet, but I don't think polls with self-selecting respondents are that informative in general. Thanks for highlighting the links though.

So anyone almost hoping Yulia and Anna get one and two just to really confuse the entire issues?

Hah I love Elena and Liza and Lip but I almost want the following results just to see the heads of the Russian Federation explode from scratching their heads.

1. Medvedeva
2. Sakhanovich
3. Leonova
4. Pogorilaya
5. Radionova
6. Tuktamysheva
7. Lipnitskaia

If Pogo places ahead of Yulia at third place by a small enough margin and that Sotnikova isn't ready, would they skip Pogo for Yulia? I bet they totally would. So it's premature to say that Yulia wouldn't benefit from her OG achievements the same way Sot would.

hmm well imo I think if Yulia and Anna dont implode and get 3rd and 4th, then one of them should go to euros and not Adelina. but if they do implode and get lower than 3rd/4th then thats when I think Adelina can contend for a spot. I also like the idea of Adelina competing in a small competition like the one in Poland. Its more fair to see her progress and how shes doing. Also, I really dont think shes going to retire yet. If she was, then she wouldn't have said that she wanted to compete at euros, so I dont see her going away. We'll see after nationals, and I really dont know why they announced this whole Adelina going to euros thing before nationals, its just going to add more pressure on the girls to skate well.

- Eteri said that these kind of statements (Sotnikova's and Lakernik's) are 'unacceptable' before Nationals.
I'm sorry but I think Eteri kinda deserves to be quoted correctly.
The Sotnikova part is wrong. She does not say that(why would she?). On the contrary, she says that when a skater comments that he/she is preparing for an X competition/sets a goal to compete in a certain event it's pretty normal, expectable and the way to go.
She criticizes the RSF alone for making those statements and demoralizing the girls before the competition.
And I completely agree with her on that. I just hope that each one will end up entering the Nationals with extra motivation rather than stress/pressure.

IMO Pogo will get passed up for Euros if she doesn't place top 2. Which is unfortunate because she is overall outperforming Lip.

I'm not liking Eteri's tone about Julia deserving to go to Euros without nationals moreso than Sotnikova. Frankly Julia is lucky as hell to have competed at the GPF after CoC. If anyone can skip Russian Nationals before Euros, it's Radionova or Tukt given how consistent they have been this season - and considerably cleaner than Lip or Pogo.

Elena and Liza have earned it... It's Lip and Pogo who should be fighting for their lives at Eyros.

Unfortunate that Adelina can't skate likely. Although I suppose Russian fed will have some arbitrary closed doors test skate to "decide"

Maybe RSF is very wise to use it to motivate Lipnitskaya, Pogorilaya, and other ladies. Who knows? :p:laugh:

I think there is practically zero chance of them skipping Pogorilaya for Yulia if Pogorilaya finishes ahead.

[edit[

One comment(not linked by OP) made by a top russian skating official alluded to that they want people who could challenge for Gold at Euros... reading between the lines I felt like he was saying that there's no point in sending Lipnitskaia if she's not a contender for Gold.

Hope it will result in this, I do. :p I really don't want to see a "who bombed less today" kind of competition. Been there. :slink:

I think that any of the medalist can be champion at Europeans or Wolrds. Russia has many many strong girls and even the skater, who will stay at home could have a chance. I don't think Sotnikova should go without any int. competition this season. Maybe if Lipnitskaia will be 3rd she could be replaced(but I don't wish it to her personally by someone else(not by Sotnikova she didn't competed yet and didn't train really much), but for example when Tuktamysheva will be 3rd they can't do that. After horrible last season she managed to get back, skated very strong this season(especially GPF)and I think she deserves her place at Euros at the moment.
About Tarasova's statement: of course she is defending Adelina. Adelina skates at CSKA, where she also works with Tarasova and as we know, TT always do some backstage politics in the case of her students.

About Tsareva's statement: Maybe it could be true, but...My personal problem is I think Adelina deserved silver at Sochi. Not the gold. Maybe someone else feels it different way and really thinks she should be first. Ok then, I'm just saying my opinion.

adelina deserve bronze

If that^^ is the case - then the RSF needs their head examined, of the 2 skaters you mentioned by name: Lipnitskaia it's well-known that she puts a lot of stress on herself, and Pogorilaya - did the GPF kiss&cry say 'please, put more pressure on me'. I think that the depth of the Russian ladies field is psychologically wearing on these girls, that if they skate poorly they will lose their shot at the 'big 2': Euros/Worlds. Because from what I've gathered - even if the 1-3 place finishers, finish close together the Fed might still pick someone based on past seasons' results.

I re-read the article, and it seems you're right.
Maybe that's the phrase that confused me a little bit: '...Я прочитала интервью Сотниковой и затем Лакерника, и сказать, что я возмущена - это ничего не сказать...' She says she was mad after she has read Sotnikova's and then Lakernik's interview. The 'unacceptable' part on the other hand was only about Lakernik's statement. I will correct the OP.
Besides, I didn't quote her, I just summed up some things she has said from my point of view :) But thanks anyway.

She was just talking about the order in which she has read the interviews, implying smth like "I was ok at first and then(after reading the second interview) I got pissed". The whole sentence was in context that made it clear she has nothing against Adelina, nor she was mad because of her interview.

Anyway, I should have mentioned that it is great that you combine all the info on the issue here. Thanks/spasibo, really. Even though I speak the language, the first post in this thread which you keep updating makes my life a bit easier. :)

The only competition before Euros is in Poland.

WOHOOOO! :party2:

But seriously, thank you a lot for writing this summary, I appreciate it very much! And your english is great :)

Each person has their own views but, probably surprisingly, I would say that it's actually Liza who should be given a lot of support. She competed several times this season, never bombed, almost always delivered. She proved she IS consistent this season. These are the most current events that should determine who is in the best condition.

The thing is, people here propose different solutions to the problems and try to find a set of rules that would determine who is going but in reality it's impossible. Setting strict requirements could actually cause more troubles - all in all, this is the amount of rules that people complain about when it comes to COP.

I think that Adelina should have a possibility of skating at Euros provided she participates in a competition or some sort of a test skate, as Plushenko in a previous year and based on this result and having in mind how other ladies skated at nationals, the decision should be taken.
