Recent video of Elizaveta Tuktamysheva practising 3A

I think we would see it attempted at WTT or some event after Worlds. It is simply too risky to attempt at Euros and Worlds, not only because of a fall but also because of the strong possibility that the program could completely unravel if she misses the 3A.

Agreed. It would definitely give her an edge to have it but in all honesty, she doesn't need it. It's pretty clear that when Liza T and Elena go head to head, when Liza T is clean, she wins. The times when Elena has beaten her it's been b/c Liza T made a mistake. It's tough to have to skate 100% clean every time to win it but Liza T is capable of winning with the layout she has.

I would love to see her add the 3A in...but I would prefer if she waited and did it next season after a summer of practicing with it in her programs. She's on cruise mode with the layout she has right now; I agree trying to incorporate a 3A into that might throw everything off.

It takes a lot of guts to go for a move that tough and risky in a competitive program. It really make you see how incredible Mao was as a skater to include that move in every program she did last year. Hit or miss, she was going for it. That takes major lady cajones...

I think it is going to be a looooooooooooong time before we get another Midori Ito. She had all the jumps and if only CoP was in place when she was a competitor, she would probably have outscored, outjumped and outskated even Yuna Kim. Her transitions and exceptional ease of generating pace and one foot skating would have given her incredible SS and TR scores on the PCS. For a lady who is not even 5 ft, her jumps are scary high and that demi leg wrap clearly worked for her. I think it actually prevented her also from over rotating. Her 3A is very different from Mao Asada. Mao probably depended more on tight, fast rotations while Midori's was more that the jump height gave her the time to complete 3.5 revs. Sort of like vault up before she starts rotating. Certainly she would have gotten +3 GOEs easily with the height, distance, speed and delayed rotation.

Of course amongst the current crop of ladies, Liza Tuks jumps are the best quality. I think the good jump basics was what allowed her to regain them even after the whole puberty thing - even though she gained height, curves and all that readjustment.

The problem with no new Midori (or Tanya) is that female skaters' builds have changed from strong, womanly jumpers to slim, girly rotaters. I'm waiting for a female skater to get through puberty and turn her increased growth into increased strength and push for harder elements.

A bit hard to say since the only time Tukt beat Elena this season is when Elena had a major mistake. They're pretty neck in neck but I'd give Radionova the slight edge. Tukt should certainly try it after Worlds when she's more comfortable with it. As they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.. and what she's doing now doesn't need a whole lot of changing since its clearly working for her.

Eliza shouldn't rush this jump, I'm scared she'll get injured again, it's a different monster in competition. I'm happy that she can get it in practice but she only needs to skate clean to beat Elena. I'm honestly not even sure if she should go to WTT because after Worlds I'm sure she will just be pooped. Same with Elena, she competed in the Japan Open too, maybe they'll send other Russian ladies to the WTT instead.

Wow, that 3A from Liza looks great! I remember a similar video surfaced a few years back, so it's nice to see she still has it.

If she were to skate clean with this in her repertoire come March, I think it would be hard for anyone else to beat her.

eh.. Tonya, not Tanya.
Other than that I agree with you.
And I am betting on Liza to be the next! She also have the strong, womanly built for powerful jump IMO.

And her 3Ltz-3t ?, Why she is not trying it?

There's no need at this point. And frankly I don't think she can do a 3Z+3T as reliably as a 3T+3T so it makes sense to continue doing the combo she's comfortable with instead of change things around mid season.

The fact that she is landing this in practice is impressive, but is not one of the most impressive nor is it THE most impressive triple axel landed by a lady. I'd say that it's better than Tonya and Kimmie Meissner's, but less impressive than the rest.

Well, I would plead a case for the Helgesson sisters, Agnes Zawadski and Mae Berenice Meite. Those girls are pure power, with builds slightly on the muscular side. More like Midori and less like Tonya (who later on was just fat). Unfortunately, these girls are either prone to implosions or just not building towards their potential.

An update from Lisa:

In short she says that she is continuing to practise her 3A and though she is happy with how it goes she feels it would be too much of a risk to include it at Euro.
She mentions that it is a sp she is putting 3A in along with 3T3T and 3Ltz. She is pleased that it has been much easier for her than she expected and compared to how it was a few years back.

I think it is a very wise decision. Lisa, stay healthy, injury free and can not wait to see you in Stockholm!

Thank you for the update and summary of the article in Russian. People here seem to be very knowledgeable of Russian language, so I sometimes forget this is an English forum. :) It is good to hear that Liza is getting comfortable with practicing 3A. She is already an excellent jumper, so if she can do the new arsenal in competition, it could be very hard to beat her. I can't wait to see her at Euro! As long as she is healthy, we can see her to have a new shiny title as the Euro champion!

Meite is, IMO, but simply not getting credit for it. She could be training a 3A, but it's almost pointless as the judges will still hold her back on PCS, even though she has improved over the years. She has a certain style that fans love but the judges don't.

A few pages back, a poster wrote that Liza might get dinged for her take-off. What is wrong with her take-off? I think it looks quite clean and easy/breezy.

I'd like to know that too. Could someone explain please?

There's nothing wrong with it. Much less pre-rotation and "braking" compared to Mao. Mao has a lot of "braking" in her earlier 3As, but her more recent 3As are much better. I don't think there is anything wrong with both Liza and Mao's recent 3As.

Maybe she'll be the first lady to break the 80+ points

It's highly unlikely at this point. She would need extremely high PCS to break 80 points. Her PB is 67.99 points at CoC. Even if you upgraded her 2A to a 3A, she'd only get about 73-74 points. She also won't get to 80 points with just a 3T+3T either. Her PCS personal best right now is 31.63. She needs to be in around the 35-36 mark and skate clean with a 3A and 3-3 (that's harder than 3T+3T) to potentially break 80. But instead of focusing on 80 points, she should simply focus on doing what she's doing at this point in this season.

Thanks. I am pleased to hear that it looks to me so perfect & effortless
