Team Russia - Promising Young Skaters

I don't understand myself most of the time, though. I used to think I would follow some actors' career for long before, now I don't follow them often...
I understand what you mean. I'm like that too, only with singers. I think I think I'll follow them forever but I never do (though I do occasionally check in on old favourites).

Back on topic: I know I'm waaay late, but I just watched Nugumanova's performances at Oberstdorf. And... holy crap, this girl is amazing! At 12, the refinement and extension are incredible. She reminds me of both Yulia (flexible, airy lightness) and Elena (sunny and charming). I was all 'tano-ed out after Russian Nationals, but Nugumanova's arm variation on the salchow made me gasp--a Rippon, but even better.

Now please Skating Gods, preserve her hips so we can see those loop combinations for another decade or more...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe I read Nugumanova and Gubanova will not be eligible for the 2015-16 Junior Grand Prix? As in, neither will be 13 by July 1? :(

What Russian skaters do we expect to debut on the JGP next year? I know there is at least one young woman in Tutberidze's group, can't recall her name at the moment.

I'm not sure sure if the list is exhaustive, but here i someone's list of those eligible for next year...

I'm in the process of writing a longish post on predicting who will skate in/make final of the JGP next year for but likely won't be posted until Russian Jr Nationals are finished... and I'm still researching... but leaving out Tsurskaya, Alisa Fedichkina is the skater I believe has the highest potential... I think she could be elite with the right coaching(she just moved to St Petersberg last year.). I'd really like to see what Eteri could do with her but she may not be able to take on added responsibilities.

Thanks for the info! I would very much enjoy a more comprehensive post on this topic. :)

Russian ladies seem to grow in quality and quantity just to unbelievable results. I even cannot imagine what it will be like in a few years, and what will they do with them??? Way too many, even considering that half or even most of them will not stay after puberty. Look at these scores for girls of 10y. and younger: http://www.ffkm.ru/images/files/014-15/2015-01-13_Perv_ml_vz/results/CAT009RS.HTM
All these triples at such age? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64iIaYCNM8Q&feature=youtu.be (that's the girl who is listed on the second place there).
And now, future juniors: Gubanova, Nugumanova, Tsurskaya, Davis... etc....
Generally, I am afraid the ladies of FS will become not interesting because of one country being too dominant.

Davis isn't among the strongest skaters. I don't know why you wrote her.
She is graceful and interesting to watch, but her jumps are often off. Her kicks and leg movement in step seqs remind me those of Julia.

When Slutskaya retired at 2006, this country disappeared from female skating, for years.
And it made female skating less interesting.

I feel terrible when I think about next years. Russian Nationals will be blood bath even more.

This year was only prelude - 4th Pogorilaya was safe, because of Zhenia's inegibility. Next year is the true start of Russian Hunger Games: Sima, Zhenia, Sasha and Masha will be eligible to Euros and Worlds. With the usual suspects from this year, it makes up to even 10 high profile senior competitors fighting for those 3 spots, plus there is usually one junior skater surprise, like Proklova in 2014 (fourth) and Medvedeva in 2015 (third).
Imagine the thiller.

These results include not only SP and LP, but also "Elements".

But wouldn't her mom give her an advantage (more attention, ice, etc.)? I agree with you though, I shouldn't have included her: she does not show top results yet.

At Spartakiad today Junior Ladies SP:
Evgenia Medvedeva 70.21 total, 39.77 TES.
Polina Tsurskaya 67.77 total, 38.53 TES.

Very good.

There are videos from the "younger than juniors"(though some like Tsurskaya become junior eligible next year) competition...

1st Place: Ekaterina Mitrofanova SP Video
Nice improvement from last week's performance. It will be interesting to see if she breaks 170. She bombed her LP last week but scored a 108 earlier in the season. She will be junior eligible next year and I think will get jgp spots.

2nd Place: Veronika Monat SP Video
This is her first performance of the season and it's a gigantic improvement... guessing about 15 points or so above her previous pb(there's no links to a score breakdown of her last performance). Her profile only says she's born in 2012 so unsure when she's junior eligible.

3rd Place: Elizaveta Shilenko SP Video
3 point improvement from earlier in the season, entirely from TES. She will be jr eligible after next season.
