On a cover - Julia Lipnitskaia, one of the most popular sportswomen of the country (rating No. 6 of "100 most popular athletes of Russia"). The figure skater, all a year ago become the most young champion of the Olympic Games in Sochi, in the current season met unexpected difficulties, and couldn't break through in structure of the national team on the European championships and the world and nearly replaced the trainer. PROSPORT tried to distract Yulya from gloomy reflections, having suggested to reconcile some new images and dresses during photographing for December issue, and our correspondent has a talk from Lipnitskaia, with her mother, with its former and present trainers and told the version of history about the girl who became well-known in 16 years.

Evgeny Slusarenko (russian journalist) posted on his Facebook page (it's my rough translation):
"On Thursday, I announced an interview with Yulia Lipnitskaya, but it, unfortunately, was not published. I decided not to publish it. The new team, which represents the interests of Julia, vetoed a part of the conversation - and then the interview, in my opinion, has lost all its meaning. They had the right to do it - as well as I had a right to this decision (not to publish).
Personally, I don't have any claims to Yulia, my impressions from communication with her are most positive: a good girl with an iron character. She'll never be lost in sport or in real life"

People have supposed that it's sort of newly-formed PR group (or don't know how to call it properly) to represent and protect Yulia's interests, so that she didn't have all these problems with journalists twisting her words etc.

Lena Radionova about Yulia, in interview for Gazeta.Ru:

- At first, Yulia seemed to be a bit of a "hedgehog". But during this season I came to realize that she really is not, and we quickly found common language. She has a peculiar manner of expression and humor. Out of us all, it seems, Yulia is the most closed off to the general public. But with those who know her well, she is a very open and kind person.

My best friend is not from figure skating, and I'm really happy about that. I am sure other girls can say the same. Every skater has friends outside of figure skating, and those are the best.

Q: Why?
A: Even if you are the nicest person, it's difficult to be friends with your rival.

Maybe not for this thread, but in this context it is interesting to me - is this close friendship between the leading juniors Sakhanovich and Medvedeva (which clearly exists) for a long time? Or as soon as they got into the adult competition between them and the fight for the top awards will start - they are would stay away from each other?

I think Sakhanovich and Medvedeva will be ok. :yes:

Javi and Patrick are good friends as well. I don't think it's impossible though. But for sure having friends outside of FS will help them, it's not just in a closet world. I am sure Yulia has good friends in her home town as well.

I remember that some interview with Yulia, published on 13th January on fskate.ru, contained some lines, featuring her plans how she was seriously considering quitting her skating career after this disastrous season and discouraging placement at the Russian nationals. But those particular lines got removed soon after.

If you followed her Instagram closely, you had also recognized that she temporarily locked her profile after her bad Free Skate at the Russian Nationals, and had only one avatar, stating "The End". ( http://imagr.eu/up/54d0e392100d8_the_end_instagram.jpg )

Yulia is known for such emotional outbursts, and of course for her genuineness/straightforwardness.
I suppose she wanted to sweep those statements under the carpet (in order not to stir up another drama about her), and strongly regrets her honesty in this interview, that's why it isn't published.

She gave a lengthy interview (in this business building, the huge tower, she posted on social media as well) about all kinds of things. The interview if which a short snippet was published like a trailer on YouTube, concerning the Euros.
But now Yulia's PR team thinks that there were things in this interview which shouldn't have been in there and they "vetoed" it to be cut out. With that censoring (of appearantly an essential part) the journalist decided not to publish it at all ?

This really sucks for us as fans:no:
I was looking forward to this immensely.

I agree. Friendships are rarely totally equally balanced. In skiing I lively remember the two top ladies (Maria Riesch and Lindsay Vonn) beeing BFF openly, even celebrating Christmas together and stuff. Well, until at one point Riesch started beating Vonn in important competions. Things started to get a little ugly then.
Riesch had no problem beeing nr. 2 in competions behind her best friend, but obviously Vonn couldn't handle that. And I don't blame her, she's very competitive, strong willed and focused. Riesch was devasted though.

It's not Yulia having problems with her words being published but this "new team" around her the journalist is very clear about that.

Most likely your scenario is true.

Edit: I also am wondering if the word 'vetoed' actually exists in English :biggrin:
