Apropos the quad... I meant to ask, but quite forgot - in the latest interview... what was it he said about the quad? I must confess I really didn't understand! Is he training it? I mean, I know he is, but did he say anything more specific? Did he say anything about Junior Worlds'? Just curious....

The winner was Alexander Petrov (218.07 points), ahead of Alexander Samarin (209.37) and Dmitry Aliyev (206.15). And Adyan (unless someone in the Fed pushes for Aliev's participation). Chance of a medal is not high, especially since Sasha will be second in the Russian pecking order. BUT stranger things have happened in figure skating so...

On the one hand I'm really excited - on the other a knot of anxiety immediately formed in my stomach, and I feel a tad... sick.

But it's good he's going in with confidence - I'm quite happy to do all the worrying for him

- as for Mr Mishin... is he ever worried?

One thing he has going for him is that JWs will be held at a relatively new rink in Tallinn. Among the top contenders, only he and Sota Yamamoto have skated there. And he beat Sota to win gold there at the JGP event.

Yeah, Mishin, been there seen everything before. The Junior circuit is just a stepping stone in any case. The real contest begins next season with Seniors.

My wish for Sasha is that he will grow a few more centimetres in height over spring/summer time. I think that will help his jumps.

I only just realized it after a fan on Sasha's baidu bar pointed it out, but what he could be saying in the above interview is that he missed the LP practice session because he was busy talking to the press (being the leader after the SP). And that without a quad he doesn't think one can even make it into the top 6 at JWs.

I think Top 6 is very doable without a quad. Last year, Nam and Adian placed 1-2 without quads.

There's no guarantee the quad guys are going to hit it off. We saw this with Boyang at major events. Nathan Chen still lacks a stable triple axel, so I don't think Sasha needs a quad to match him. Adian has yet to skate his with-quad LP cleanly.

I guess if Sasha wants to outright win... he would need the quad, to get past Shoma (who doesn't tend to mess up like Boyang, and whose BV and PCS will give him a multiple-mistake cushion).

From what I'm seeing in the interviews, it's Sasha himself who is very motivated to win Jr. Worlds and get the quad out there, while Mishin is still taking a "when everything is ready" approach.

I agree, perhaps he needs to grow more. :think: He is very small compared to Mishin's past students, and while he gets the jumps around, he doesn't pull huge GOE.

I also think it would be good for him to grow a little taller. Not just for jumps and other elements but also because 170cm is not that tall for a man to begin with...

I'm only concerned about how it would limit his skating if he stays at his present height. Other aspects of life, I doubt he'll have any problems, he certainly doesn't lack self-confidence. For purely skating reasons, I hope he can grow a few more cm.

Well, boys tend to grow later than girls - they are often still growing into their late teens. Therefore at, say, 15 girls can often look a bit older than the boys their same age.

Not much was said about Sasha but Mishin mentioned that Sasha has been ill with Acute Respiratory Infection several times.

I remember Sasha mentioned that he had bronchitis as a child too.

ARI several times doesn't sound good, I just hope that he has fully recovered from that and will not pick up anymore illness this winter.
And about the pictures, it's kinda strange how some of the pcures make him look almost chubby, which he definitely is not
