TBH, I find the above linked music to be too jerky... and tbh, Yanni is kind of a punchline here in the US(though I shouldn't talk much considering my coming recommendations)
In my very uneducated opinion, I think some epic figure skating music for Yulia could be made by taking
happy/
uk upfront hardcore rave music and giving it a classical makeover. What's nice about uk hardcore is that it does a great job pounding a simple image in your head and encourages your mind to wonder filling in the details. It's pure emotionalism. The problem is that it's usually too fast and simple to bodily interpret. To use the following recommendations you'd have to work with a producer/composer to take the melodies, themes, and/or vocals and toss the simple 4/4 beat and add some complexity.
Here are some from the top of my head... but there are many more worth looking at if this route is taken. Here's a good
5 hour late 90's happy hardcore mix (still just scratches the surface) For more just go to youtube and type "happy hardcore" or "uk hardcore". Digitally Imported has a great
uk hardcore stream that's been around forever. And here are a couple(
one,
two) vk pages.
(when listening to any of these imagine a Bel Suono or some cinematic composer reinterpreting them)
Sub Ace And Aura - My Dreams(
Sparkz remix) -
Sparz is
selling a DVD with remix parts... not sure if this is part of it.
Jon Doe & Lisa Abbott - Time Bomb(
cube::hard remix) - The producer of this track
used to sell a remix pack including the vocals on his website. If you
check the website now they had to take it down because of a new EU VAT Tax. I'm 99% sure if someone emailed they would be able to get the remix pack.
Scott Brown - Elysium(
Plus,
Return to Elysium)
Scott Brown - Lost Generation
Force And Styles - Frankies Lead
Why go through the trouble of all of this? Because in 2018 if you don't have a triple axel(Not just Liza, Gracie Gold is working on it and some Japanese phenoms are planning to bring it) you may need uberly optimized programs. If you're stacking the 2nd half with jumps, you'll want music to make doing that look good and not cheap point scoring. You'll want good music to help you along in your step sequence so you can get a level 4 in the SP. It would be helpful to have good music elements to go along with the jumps and spins. Yulia could use something musically to spread her big spins apart because putting them right together without some kind of breather lessens the audience engagement(Megapolis was fine, but her spins should have been better utilized in R&J... especially with 3 music cuts) Yulia talked about getting nervous the 2nd time she did her SP at Sochi because it was too quiet... I doubt this would have happened with Megapolis and could be considered if producing'/composing your own work.
Also, since Yulia was never able to use Megapolis at Euros or Worlds I think she should reuse it later on with different choreography as it seems she really likes the music. Not next year but maybe 2018. Another option would be to have Megapolis ready as a backup plan if a SP isn't working well.
