Yulia Lipnitskaya

Sounds like someone has a goal ahead of them

Hopefully just what the doctor ordered. I'd love to see her get the home title on home soil. :)

She got a World medal before any of her peers, won Europeans before any of them, got a medal at the Olympics first... and still doesn't have a National title. Hopefully next year will be the right time. :)

I love it, but I'm not sure Yulia could do the ending (very fast paced). She did skate to Megapolis, though, and they can always slow the song down to 95% or so. Thanks for the suggestion!

I don't think it's too fast. Try to watch Julia's R&J FS ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqwjW3xuhCk ) on mute with the music I suggested in the background. Some of the hand movements just fit perfectly. Her style of skating is that of a well trained gymnast- delicate, feminine and strong.

Not being Russian national champion isn't the end of the world. Yagudin never won a Nationals title, but was four-time world champion and has an Olympic gold.

That said it would be extra sweet if she could win in her home town.

Good for her!! Adidas recognizes unique talent and takes good care of them. She is a perfect fit for them and I've been wondering for some time if she was getting hooked up considering all the swag she was wearing. I'd still love to see her do a program with a popped tongue !!

TBH, I find the above linked music to be too jerky... and tbh, Yanni is kind of a punchline here in the US(though I shouldn't talk much considering my coming recommendations)

In my very uneducated opinion, I think some epic figure skating music for Yulia could be made by taking happy/uk upfront hardcore rave music and giving it a classical makeover. What's nice about uk hardcore is that it does a great job pounding a simple image in your head and encourages your mind to wonder filling in the details. It's pure emotionalism. The problem is that it's usually too fast and simple to bodily interpret. To use the following recommendations you'd have to work with a producer/composer to take the melodies, themes, and/or vocals and toss the simple 4/4 beat and add some complexity.

Here are some from the top of my head... but there are many more worth looking at if this route is taken. Here's a good 5 hour late 90's happy hardcore mix (still just scratches the surface) For more just go to youtube and type "happy hardcore" or "uk hardcore". Digitally Imported has a great uk hardcore stream that's been around forever. And here are a couple(one, two) vk pages.

(when listening to any of these imagine a Bel Suono or some cinematic composer reinterpreting them)
Sub Ace And Aura - My Dreams(Sparkz remix) - Sparz is selling a DVD with remix parts... not sure if this is part of it.
Jon Doe & Lisa Abbott - Time Bomb(cube::hard remix) - The producer of this track used to sell a remix pack including the vocals on his website. If you check the website now they had to take it down because of a new EU VAT Tax. I'm 99% sure if someone emailed they would be able to get the remix pack.

Scott Brown - Elysium(Plus, Return to Elysium)
Scott Brown - Lost Generation
Force And Styles - Frankies Lead

Why go through the trouble of all of this? Because in 2018 if you don't have a triple axel(Not just Liza, Gracie Gold is working on it and some Japanese phenoms are planning to bring it) you may need uberly optimized programs. If you're stacking the 2nd half with jumps, you'll want music to make doing that look good and not cheap point scoring. You'll want good music to help you along in your step sequence so you can get a level 4 in the SP. It would be helpful to have good music elements to go along with the jumps and spins. Yulia could use something musically to spread her big spins apart because putting them right together without some kind of breather lessens the audience engagement(Megapolis was fine, but her spins should have been better utilized in R&J... especially with 3 music cuts) Yulia talked about getting nervous the 2nd time she did her SP at Sochi because it was too quiet... I doubt this would have happened with Megapolis and could be considered if producing'/composing your own work.

Also, since Yulia was never able to use Megapolis at Euros or Worlds I think she should reuse it later on with different choreography as it seems she really likes the music. Not next year but maybe 2018. Another option would be to have Megapolis ready as a backup plan if a SP isn't working well.

Does this mean they're officially sponsoring her? Or it's just an ad?

It means they are sponsoring her, I think. Athletes in their ads are those who they sponsor.

This is a cool picture really. Will I see Lionel Messi and Yulia in the same ad? Oh I will be crazy happy if that comes true. Although it seems that they will have their own ad. Maybe like they tell a little story about themselves as in previous Adidas commercials.

Most probably yes. In the article it says that
Starring in this first wave of Sport 15 are adidas NBA stars Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers), Joakim Noah, Derrick Rose (both Chicago Bulls), John Wall (Washington Wizards), American football player DeMarco Murray (Dallas Cowboys) and adidas football icons Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona), James Rodriguez (Real Madrid) and Luis Suarez (FC Barcelona).

So this is the first ad: http://www.sportindustry.biz/tv/adidas-take-it

Apparently she will be in an ad with Simona Halep. According to this indonesian article (with google translation): A number of female athletes participated in action in this inspirational sports movie. Among others are Yulia, Halep and Yoko Tanaka (a japanese football player).

I'm very glad for her because this is very good money also.

Thank you for the link! I am happy for her too.

She has been wearing their gear all season so she probably got some free swag already and remember she was photographed in that meeting with the CEO some time ago. I have always loved Adidas....now I can love them even more. :)

I really like your idea about Yulia skating to EPIC music. Yanni's song linked above was close, but never had that WOW or INTENSE moment that draws in the audience encapsulates the idea of EPIC. Your music selections are on the right track, but I get the vibes of a RAVE rather than a PERFORMANCE. In other words, the compatibility between this techno music Yulia's artistic prowess simply is not there. She won't be able to emotionally connect with the music, which is vital if her competitors are coming out with huge jumps.

Yulia's LP decision was a wild one, switching from a Mulan program to another program to an ill-prepared R&J. Why did she want to do Mulan so bad? Nobody truly knows except for her. From what I recall, posters in this forum a long ways back had two realistic conclusions:
1) Yulia simply loves the Oriental Culture and loved the music
2) Worlds 2015 is in China

If number 1 is the case, she should push for Mulan in the future. I'll focus on the latter point. Worlds 2016 will be held in the United States. As an American, there is not a single genre of music that stands out because the cultures are very diverse. If I'm right, in an interview about a year ago, Yulia said she likes Eminem, which to me is so cool. I don't think his music would please the Figure Skating audience, but maybe the American audience might if they stumble upon a teenage girl skating to a rap phenom. There is, however, music that is indifferent IMO throughout the country because nobody really pays full attention to it unless it is ear-catching. I am referring to music that is scored in movies. Now, for my suggestion:

Two Steps from Hell. This group has scored for many popular movies such as Harry Potter, Star Trek, the Dark Knight, and several of Marvel's Superhero movies, so this group would be popular amongst the American crowd. Although it is not uncommon in figure skating, the only big name skater that used their music was Elena Radionova. Elena used the song Nero for her short program music last year, when vocals were prohibited. Now that vocals are allowed, there are many EPIC songs by Two Steps from Hell that would be perfect for Yulia. It captures the EPICNESS and INTENSITY that sorenkay mentioned but in a way that would be easier IMO for Yulia to express a message through her skating, something in which she is really talented. Here are my two personal favorites that would be perfect if combined together as her SP:
- Heart of Courage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRLdhFVzqt4
- Strength of a Thousand Men: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIxas0a-KgM (There is a remix, sorenkay, if you are interested in her skating to techno/rave type music.)

Although separate it is great, the two as a mash-up would be golden for a SP. Thank you for reading all of this. I know I'm not the most educated in the sport of figure skating, but I wanted to contribute my two cents about music for next season, knowing that I have no influence on her whatsoever. I apologize if my claims were far-fetched or poorly stated, but thank you very much for reading all of this :)
