Is it not the same type of injury Adelina got - a torn ligament of the ankle?

I myself think it is very very sad that Anna is driven to risk a further (possibly career ending) injury by that crazy level of competition in Russia

It sounds like the same injury Adelina got which made her sit out an entire season because of its severeness.
The thing is that Anna does not enjoy the same privileges Adelina does. As harsh as it may sound, she really can't afford giving away her spot. Like others have pointed out, the Russian Federation will not wait for her, they will simply replace her and I agree that considering the crazy competition in Russia, this could be Anna's last shot at a World Championship.

Nonetheless part of me believes her not so beloved coach plays a big role in this decision. I can't see Tudberitze or Buyanova sending their girls with torn ligaments but with Tsareva it sounds totally believable.

I don't think it's Tsareva's fault. First of all we don't know how severe the injury was. Tsareva said "sprained foot and suffered a partial tear of the ligaments"). It remains to be seen how her condition is right now. Obviously she isn't in her best form, that's for sure, but if she was that bad wouldn't the Russian Fed send Leonova instead? Also, from the translation (made by a friend who speaks russian, so the russians in this forum can correct me here) Tsareva said that it was Anna's decision to skate despite all that. We have no reason to doubt her words.

Ankle sprains are not fun, but people have competed on sprained ankles before and managed to jump well and not worsen the injury further if the right precautions are taken. A torn ligament on the other hand...no one has business competing on such an injury, as it requires much longer than one month not jumping and/or off the ice to heal.

Hopefully Anna will be alright, I'll be anxious to hear how she looks in practice and sincerely hope her ligament is not actually torn.

I think it was a good thing for Julia not to have the possibility of competing at Worlds' hanging over her head - I think it was better for her to have this time off, to refocus and come back strong next season.

I absolutely agree. Besides, Yulia took a long break after the nationals and then started working on her edge, SS etc. for the next season. It's out of the question that she would've come back to compete at Worlds. Not being ready at all, with lot of previous issues on her LP as well, just because someone got injured. Thanks, but no thanks. Leonova was the sub.

Apparently in practice she wasn't looking good, but neither was Elena. So who knows in competition.

Alright guys I'm back with more practice reports! I went to see the Russian's group today and oh... oh my goodness it was quite the fiasco. Anna Pogorilaya didn't do her very best, she looks very wonky and not stable. Elena was very bad too!! Quite a shocker, maybe just some time difference. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, it's just the morning practice. Elizaveta was on fire as always however She did her program with 3A, didn't land it but I don't think she'll go for it. I won't be attending the afternoon practices. More coming up soon though

Given that Leonova was the sub and has been skating fairly well as of late, I hope this means that Anna's form is strong enough and the injury healed enough for her to be competing with the support of the Fed. Russia is usually good about monitoring their athletes before big events. The US not so much, I just hope this doesn't turn into a Rachael Flatt tibia gate or Alissa Czisny torn labrum type of debacle as that could be very detrimental to the reputation of the Russian Fed and Tsaraeva not to mention Anna'a career. Though that being said, even with a broken leg Rachael was able to skate somewhat decently and avoid a total disaster.

Crossing my fingers for Anna, wishing her good luck but more importantly that she stays safe!

I just thought of the World Team Trophy this year, I wonder if the Russian Fed will send Liza and Lena, they've been competing so hard all season, after Worlds I wonder if they'll still even have the same drive to compete the way they have all season. I guess since Anna has an injury she might want to rest after Worlds.

Based on the practice video, Anna looks fine jump wise. She and Elena were probably jetlagged in practice yesterday and may have just gotten off the plane.

She is 12 and 3 months.

She's wonderful! Great jumps, spins, and interpretation of music. But puberty is tricky. Let's hope she continues to be good. Only time will tell.

So, I think it's a no brainer that the team for the World Team Trophy will consist of Liza and Lena although it is not announced yet. I wonder if Liza is going to do 3A there. In order to win Russia just needs both of them to be at the top. Hope, no more injuries and fevers.
