Joshua Farris

sometime, when I watch that unique lay-over spin of Joshua, it looks like a diamond (the flat side down) to me.

I think the step sequence at the beginning has been improved. That was stunning.

Is the change-edge, change-direction skiddy spiral near the end a new feature? I don't recall that before, but of course I'm old.

That was really special.

That one has been a feature of the ChSq for SL even in its first inception. He does it so beautifully.

Thank you, I don't know how I could have missed it. I've only watched the 4CC version of that program about 100 times!

Of course, when you are completely enchanted, sometimes you miss things.

Bumping this up- after yesterday, Josh could use some love! Sending the very best of thoughts for the free :)

He had some quotes in the ongoing Fanzone article.

(on short program) My expectations definitely were not how I skated. I’ve been training well and I was expecting to do the same, if not better, that I did at Four Continents. I’m pretty disappointed in my short program. I have had a lot of success with it this year to this point.

I was nervous but no more than I normally am. That fall did surprise me. In the air I didn’t think I was going to fall. It shook me up a bit but I really tried to refocus. The fact that I muscled out the rest of the program was an improvement for me because there are times in the past I would have fallen on all my jumps in that situation.

(on free skate) In previous competitions, when I had skated poorly or not up to par in the short program, I let it carry into my free skate. My goal is to move past that. I am growing up and I want to show maturity after a poor skate.

I think the fact that he recognizes that he could have melted down, but did not, and learning to do that is part of the process, is a great sign.

I hope so. I think a clean LP could get him into the top 10. I'd love for him to finish in the top 10.

:agree: Keeping calm and loving Josh .
(And missing Max.)

BTW, don't think this Instagram vid of the SP draw ever was posted elsewhere?

From Jason's takeover of the USFS Instagram account. Shows all three U.S. guys drawing.

Joshua Farris suffered an upset stomach on the plane to Shanghai but improved each day he was in China. Coach Damon Allen said it was not a factor in the short program.

I wasn't aware until just now. Glad that Damon said it did not affect Josh's SP.

ETA, and from the same article (emphasis added :ohwell:):
"That fall did surprise me; my shoulder actually hurts a little bit right now," Farris said....

Oh no... hopefully it will be better tomorrow and won't affect him in the LP.

I'm very sorry for him for making that mistake on the 3A, but I thought his growth and maturity was definitely visible with how he skated the rest of the SP - he still performed it well and didn't back down. That's not giving him CoP points, but it makes me respect him even more.
If he manages to really hit his LP - at least 4CC style - he can make up a lot of ground. It's about 11 points up to 5th, and that might be a tall order, but it's doable and definitely realistic for him to make the top 10. And that would still be a really good showing for his 1st WC.

Good luck in the LP to Josh, I'll love his performance no matter what scores or placement he'll get for it! :cheer::rock::cheer2:

I do love how Josh is never willing to get out the book of excuses. This is not the first time we've learned of him being ill at/before competition from Damon.

You know, I'm riding high this morning. I really think that Josh can do some major leaderboard climbing tonight. The judges already showed him at 4CCs that even a slightly flawed SL can score huge. If he can go clean - and I feel confident he can - then he could propel himself upwards at a great rate of knots.

Dear Golden411,

Admiting ones mistakes is the only way to really learn from things and especially to move forward on the correct foot. It was revealed today that Sam-Skwantch was wrong dating back to a discussion, one I'm sure you'll remember, regarding Yulia Lipnitskaya and Joshua. I made an assumption that maybe she didn't even know who Josh was. Well I was wrong and admit it. When asked the following question the response she gave clearly shows my error in judgement.

I was wrong :o:

Which of the foreign skaters do you like the most?
A: Yuzuru, Javier, Farris...

Maybe this will score a few Karne points too....

Good Luck to Josh in the FS!!!

*chuckles* Anyone who says they like Josh gets karne points :)

*sigh* Well, skaters have good days and bad days... After seeing more experienced competitors melt down in the SP, it's hard to be down on Josh. Hoping to see him deliver that free with the quad finally landed well, which would vault him up many places.

I'm actually way more optimistic this morning than I was last night. I'm just looking at the leaderboard again. Josh is only 11 points behind Jason who is sixth. Eight points covers 8th - 19th! Four skaters alone have a 70.something score (Kozuka, Besseghier, Kerry and Kovtun). If he goes clean, he can make some major leaps!

OMG, Sam-S ... thank you for this post :).

I do indeed remember the old discussion, LOL, although I had forgotten that you were one of the strong voices. I do remember that Alba was another.
And I do remember that I posted several times before finally letting the question go. And I'm kind of embarrassed :hopelessness: that you remember that I was the one who debated the topic at some length -- I must have been quite the loudmouth.

But I am happy to learn that YL named Josh as one of her favorites. Not b/c I want to gloat, but b/c Josh is one of my favorites, and it is a nice compliment to him that YL not only knows him, but also likes him :yay:.

Side comment:
Interesting that she refers to Josh by his last name, but to Yuzu and Javi by their first names. I'm not complaining, but maybe it means that YL and Josh have not had a chance to "click" on a personal level yet. Hope that they eventually do. Josh said that Han Yan's limited English does not prevent them from understanding each other as friends :).

The actual names quoted may be subject to the interpreter's own familiarity too but I agree with the premiss.

Re: Josh
It's better to make mistakes in the SP and bounce back in the FS. I wonder how many places he'll make up? If he skates clean I suspect he'll get a pretty nice slay count.
