Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

I still think he will go for a dramatic FP, one with a story line behind it. He seems to emote well with that. But I when I was watching other programs by other male skaters, it struck me that another big genre he hasn't yet try out is tango/Latin dance music. Yes, I know I know, I can't imagine it right now. But that would certainly be breaking out of his usual style wouldn't it.

I would love to see that as well, an upbeat FS (choreographed by Jeff!). However, I wonder, you have to really keep it going with lots of energy for an upbeat program (like he did with PW) and Yuzuru still gets very tired in his FS. Would he be able to pull that off without looking moe exhausted by the end of the program than he already does?

True, a fast paced FS would be difficult for most skaters to keep up for over 4 minutes. I really enjoy programs that have a variety of tempos like his R&J1: begin with a medium or fast paced opening, have a slower section that allows skaters to catch their breath, then a fast (or frenetic) final drama-filled ending. I think Jason Brown's FS program did this very well.

My worry about an upbeat FS is if the ina bauer will be put in or not! :laugh2:
I like his emotional programs too! But I want him to have more fun and not be so serious all the time! But it will be harder to perform an upbeat program, without losing energy or the crowd... It would be a nice different side to show to him though. Imagine Javi doing Yuzu's programs and Yuzu doing Javi's :P

Oh my, Javi doing Yuzuru's programs :laugh2: that would be some sight.
I would like him to skate to something different, but it seems like he likes using popular (maybe even overly played?) music for his FS, there has to be a very dramatic part of course (where else would he place the Ina Bauer?). So idk, maybe he would use Les Mis? It's not my ideal choice (I would still like it if he used something less common) but who am I to judge him?

I can't even imagine Hanyu doing tango, it would be like a latino Vertigo, just very Boyang of him. jk, I secretly love that program but don't we all

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who doesn't like his time traveler costume. I don't mind his ex program too much, but I would love to see him perform something more...idk, entertaining? Something like "Change" again? I really miss those kinds of ex from him.

I wish Yuzu would choose a more upbeat EX program like Change too! Or even better, for an FS. We have seen a fun SP from Yuzu already and he played or should I say fit into the character and attitude very well. Plus, I think most people know him more as a rockstar anyways

The 'rockstar' image really suits Yuzu! I wish he can pursue that as a future EX for next season (like Hello, I love you or Change) or maybe even in his programs. I agree that skating to upbeat music for 4:00+ continuous minutes sounds straining to maintain the high energy for that long. Something with various pastes of music sounds most suitable for him (like R&J no.1) ;)

I hope Yuzuru can go for less serious music next season because although I enjoyed this season's music choices, I hope the doom&gloom type of atmosphere can change to uplifting and joyful (maybe I'm thinking too one-sided, idk). Anyone else think this season's music choices were a bit gloomy?

For example, Chopin's Ballade no.1 was written when the composer was far from home and it "was a reflection about his loneliness in the city far away from his home in Poland, where a war was happening against the Russian Empire's oppression." This song was also famously played in The Pianist film (which is also part of that theme).

The POTO is about a neglected man who calls himself the "phantom of the opera", composes operas, and falls in love with a young singer named Christine. In the end after much conflict, he gives up his love for the happiness of Christine, who goes off and marries Raoul.

@firal, I hope he can do something tango related too! It would be a fun new style for him to possibly try out, I like where this whole 'next season's program' discussion is going.

I guess he could try Latin/tango style too! or I also am OK with a program with Japanese heritage like some suggested a few pages ago? That sounds interesting too!

I think he could definitely pull off a warrior themed program or specifically samurai themed ones!

I was thinking warrior or samurai would be a really good fit for him. How about Gladiator? Dramatic soundtrack usually allows a variety of tempo. The audience will follow the emotion and tempo too. So in general I believe dramatic music is a better choice for choreography than music that are more repetitive or monotone.

So, I got tickets to the Men and Ladies Short Program for the WTT! Hooray. I'll try to remember everything so I can give a report.
(actually, it was my sister who got them. I have no idea how she did it.)

P.S. for those of you living in Japan, the ticket prices at various ticket re-sellers are dropping right now due to people needing to get rid of the tickets before it is too late to sell them. You may get lucky too.

I happen to love his Time Traveller costume, he's just so beautiful. Maybe I would have choosen a different shade of blue, but otherwise it's very lovely. I don't care one bit if a costume makes a skater effeminate or not, as long as it fits them and they look beautiful in it. Of course, it doesn't work for every skater. For exemple, I can not see Javier wearing it. But I love this kind of costumes. It also reminds me of beautiful Johnny Weir. At his time, he was also the only one who could wear them perfectly.
I know some people prefer to see more "masculine" costumes, but honestly, Yuzuru should wear whatever he wants. If some people don't like it that's not his problem, it's just a difference of taste.^^ But above all, it's the beauty of the program that matter the most, we can all agree on that.

The "season" of shows is coming in Japan, and I think that's why Jeff is going. Or maybe he's going for ideas of new choreo with Yuzuru or another Japanese skater? Or maybe both? Both would be good, yup.

On the topic of new programs:

Yes yes yes yes yes!!!!! I love this song! I don't know if its something Yuzu could perform to, but I can dream :)

Congratulation! I envy you (in a good way) :)

I allways thought that Yuzuru should skate at least one program to some of Joe Hisashi's composition :)

Hi-five!! Actually I thought so too, they're such beautiful pieces which are not often used (from what's i've seen so far )....:)

I totally agree with you. Change is my favorite EX program from him. Something fun, upbeat and more contemporary would be great for next season along with a costume more like this: http://s789.photobucket.com/user/os168_photo/media/hanyuIFS.jpg.html

Yuzuru in jeans and T-shirt???? Nooooo.... It's Yuzuru Hanyu, he who fully grasps the term "Costume"! He can't get boring now! I'd love a rock ex program though, or something else uobeat.

I quite like the Time Traveller costume but I agree it emphasises his posture flaws. Another thing I would change is the color, to a different shade of blue perhaps, or ombre. Flowers, ruffles and sequins though I fully support.

One thing that made me like Yuzuru, other than his skating, is his costumes and the fact that he doesn't seem to care about the distinction between the masculine and feminine and just does what he likes. He stands out and that's a good thing and the costumes are, IMO, almost alawys great and suit him. The only competition costume I didn't like was his 2010/11 LP one

Actually I love his costumes too!(though my parents utterly disagree with me on this ) And aside from the 10/11 lp costume, I really can't get through the vertigo one too!!! That's really fun to look at, but not nice for yuzu to wear despite his beautiful body line
