Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

If he goes for 3 quads next season, can he finally get rid of the 3F? I assume he can do 2 lutz jump. Like this:
4S (or 4Lo if he can mangae it), 4T, 3lz, 4T2t, 3A3T, 3A1lo3S (or please let it be 3A3Lo), 3Lo, 3lz??

If he repeats it, it has to be in a combo as far as I know. And if Chopin gave any clue this season, he needs to work on the 3Lz, that or work on his edge in the flip, but since the Lutz gives more points IIRC, it would be better for his BV to put it in a combo instead of the flip. But if he does, what happens to his third quad and his Axel combos? Getting rid of the combos with the axels is pretty much out of the question since those are his "point mines" so to speak. The only way I can think of him getting rid of the flip and changing it for a Lutz would have to be if he uses three different quads, each one time, he could the spare one combo and put the puts in there, I think.

I thought the repeated jump has to be in a combination? But I agree that his flip looks flat and dangerous sometimes..... and I think he got an edge call for it in wc. (the exclamation mark beside means an edge call right? )
You're right, the second 3lz must be in combination as well. Which means he still have to use 3F.
His flip at WC got a ! Which means unclear and it is right, his flip has always been like that, not downright wrong edge, just flat.

yep... It can be like this: 4lo, 4S, 4T, 3lz2t, 3A3T, 3A1Lo3S (or 3A3Lo if he can manage it), 3lo, 3lz,
But this layout seems crazy. :hopelessness: I don't think he has enough energy for it.

Or he can jump 3A alone, something like this sounds plausible: 4S, 4T, 4T2T, 3A3T, 3lz1lo3S, 3Lz, 3lo, 3A

I thought you can only repeat two triples/quads. The above layout repeats three triples/quads, two 4T, two 3A and two 3Lz. Does he really have any issue with the Lutz? I thought it was more issue with the timing. I thought he always have very short set up time for all of his jumps. The Lutz in his SP has almost no set up time and a difficult entry before the combo? I thought that was the main issue. (I personally don't like Lutz jump due to the long set up. It seems that other skaters take forever to jump Lz. Yuzu is one of the very few that jumps with no set up.)

The only way for him to eliminate the 3F is to add a 4lo to his arsenal =) in all the other layouts you suggested he would zayak because you can only repeat two triple or quadruple jump =) in fact this year the second 4t substituted the second 3 3lz :)

I don't think that he's the type of athlete who will try to avoid the 3F.
A balanced jump layout (for LP) should have all types of jumps in it.

Well, if Yuzu wants to do a 4Lo by the 2018 Olympics, then he probably going to need it by the 2016-2017 season, like how he introduced the 4S. I wanna believe he is gonna put in the 4Lo, but I feel he is gonna stick to the original layout meant for this season :)

He could also his current layout and just switch around the 3Lz and 3Lo, take out the 2t and just have a triple jump party in the second half! That scares me :hopelessness: or he could put in the 4lo...

The zayak rule should be changed oh man. I forgot that. It seems he couldn't get rid of that flip soon.

I think the Zayak rule is there to make the program more balanced. Otherwise, the skater can just repeat the same jump he is good at as many times as he likes.

I respect Yuzu's will for challenging layouts but I want to see at last one clean LP from him. I don't know if he can do this with 3 quads in one program....

I'm not sure about the timing when the skater reveals his/her music choices, but I'm overall really glad that he is going for two completely new programs and not re-using any from this season.

Also, someone mentioned before that two new programs = two new costumes! I wonder what Yuzuru's costume designers has in store for him and the fans. My favourite costume from this season is the red one from POTO #1, unfortunately it was replaced by his current white/blue/gold one (which looks cool too, however I liked the first one much more).

Another interesting fact is how his Chopin SP costume kept on changing this season and gradually turning into more deep hues of blue/light violet. I wonder if he'll have more wardrobe progressions next season?

Quick question: Previously Johnny Weir designed a few of his costumes, anyone know who designs them now?
I love the blue one, but prefered the red one as it was more related to the POTO theme and more complex looking (imo anyways).

I wish Johnny would design new costumes for him. I guess he will, somedays, but I enjoyed what he did for him before (especially the R&J 2.0 one). I don't know who else design his costumes, though there was a video about the guy and Yuzu working on his Chopin costume.
I wonder why there were so many changes in the Chopin costumes. I know that one of his costumes had a rip that required to have a new one for the WC, but considering the evolution of the hue slowly going from violet to light blue and dark blue... Was it intentional from the beginning?

I was wondering why Yuzuru has (what I think it is) a boot-cover on his skates when he competes? In practise you can see the heel of his skates, but not in competition. I think he looks better without them! IMO they make his feet look more "boxy"?

For me Yuzu's costumes this season are great. I wish he'll work with the same designer also in the future. I love his POTO costume! (only the blue one) I'm not sure if Johnny is the right designer for him....but I guess Yuzu really liked his R&J costume last season...

Welcome. Sorry, but I don't know the answer to your question.

Why is he adding 1 more quad at this moment...? I thought the smartest way for skaters to raise difficulty is to add new elements once their current elements are more or less stable (see Liza and her 3A, see Denis and his thought of adding one more quad to his free now that he skated it pratically clean ...) I understand if quads are the skater's only weapon (Kovtun; Javier to a lesser extent) but in the case of Yuzuru ... It doesn't make sense as hard as I try to understand... And at the same time he says that he wants to skake clean all the time. I don't understand, his two wishes are almost opposites if we are being realistic. Maybe it will do more harm than good for him ... Even if he lands all 3 there's a high chance of him doing it at the expense of the choreography, spins, and other areas of his skating just like he did during two seasons because of quad sal ... Is it just his ambition speaking too loud? But there are other and smartest ways in being a technically ambitious skater ...

Yuzuru main goal is gold in 2018 olympics, so I guess he is thinking of having stable 3 quad LP by that time. It's the same way as people tend to say that Jason team is also thinking about long term goal. In yuzuru case it means having 3 quads :drama:

Of course for now he doesn't need it at all to win with everyone as long as he can skate clean. He has potential to break 200 in LP if he skates clean at his best, but if you think about longer goal then it seems more reasonable

If his main goal is 2018 then definitely he should have 3 quads. You have seen what happened to top skater who did not upgrade their layout, right? See Yuna, Patrick... Even if he does well with 2 quads in the LP for the next 3 years, there is no guarantee the judges would give him good mark at all as they want to see higher BV.
I think this season it was too soon for him for 3 quads as we have seen he sprained his ankle due to the quad in the second half of LP. We don't know for sure if his health will be enough for him next season to pull 3 quads, but definitely he needs 3 quads for 2018. The judges clearly want it.
Or maybe next season he will replace the 4S by 4Lo. I remember he also want 2 quads in the SP as well. But that depends on his health.

But this would be 3 seasons from now ... I understand if his wish is 3 quad LP, it's a wish from technnicaly ambitious skaters. If we are thinking that he couldn't skate clean his 1 quad sp and 2 quad LP this season because of his injuries (I honestly don't think so, it affected to some extent, but already at COC SP he was repeating his pattern in having a slow start of the season, anyway) let's think of this strategy: He takes a good rest during the off season and some good old fashioned training, comes into the next season with the same layout, maybe with more transitions like the original SP and FS choreo this season was supposed to be while being healthy. See how it goes. If he skates his LP clean or almost clean while standing upright, at least 2 times great, he's ready for upping the difficulty but if he doesn't ... Let's think about it again. I don't even remember the last we saw a clean LP from him, and by his interviews he doesn't like it either but his decision goes against it. I don't care for scores, he obviously "care" if we think about the winning aspect of it but he once said that it isn't about the score it's about the performance, he needs to be happy with the performance. Will he be happy with his peformance once he adds one more quad if he doesn't have any stable quad sal ...? Maybe i'm overthinking it, sorry ...

Also I don't think practice clips of him doing wonky 4Los, and 1 clean 4 Lo is any indication of him adding it to his program right now ... It's just pratice, skaters do it all the time.

Worlds 2014 2quad LP 191.35, four in a row perfect 1quad SP TEB/GPF/2xOlympic with highest score 101.45

Yuzuru strategy took a toll this year due to the lack of training from the many commitments after the Olympic (as Brian mentioned in the interview), injury and surgery. I really hope after the 2nd surgery he will rest and recover fully to go back to Toronto for training. I also hope he say no to ice shows, events, commercials etc.
