I remembered this TEB 2013 where the lady commentator said "oh the girls love him don't they?". And Yuzu said "no more, no more" at the amount of gifts .....and the botching of his name to Hanyu Yazura

Well, do you know of another venue in Paris they could use? Paris is easy for me to get to, too :-D

If they did hold it somewhere else in Paris, I'm guessing it would have to be somewhere fairly "off the shelf" (rather than building a whole rink + seating from scratch, like they did for the GP Final in Barcelona)

I tried to think of other places, in and outside Paris, but no, Palais des Sports Paris Bercy seems to be the only place where they could have hold it. The other places are too small and can't hold international FS competitions.

Lyon has the place for that, along with an international airport for practical reasons, though it will still require to take a train/plane for people coming from Japan, it is easier to access from Paris (2h train, 1h by plane). Or maybe they'll still go for Bordeaux.
I hope we'll know soon enough.

I hope that Yuzuru will do 2 Grand Prix this year in America like SC / SA or in Europe like TEB, Cup of Russia. And the GPF will be in Barcelona. We all see how the audience loved him in Nice in 2012, at TEB in 2013, at Russia in Sochi 2014 and in CoR in 2011, in Barcelona GPF in 2014 they were crazy for him. We are fans of Yuzuru all over the world, not just in Asia (Japan, China, Korea). It is only fair that we are entlitle to see him skate live too, especially he will retire after the Olympics in 2018. There are only 3 more years to see him skate. Especially this year he was almost in Asia for both GP, beginning with COC in Shanghai, then NHK in Japan, then again World 2015 in Shanghai, then WTT in Japan in April 2015. Anyway, I understand that the organisations of the GP in China or NHK want him too for themselves, but it's only fair to share him with others countries too. He has been 2 times at COC, two or three times at NHK, 2 times at CoR but only once at SA, SC and TEB. I hope he will be in SA or SC or TEB. I don't worrry if he has to face Patrick Chan there, or Denis or Javier. He is competitive, he likes to skate against strong competitors.

But he can't be on the same event with Javier or Denis. I think he'll be more than ready to face Patrick during GP series. He loves challenges so I don't worry. Anyways i think we'll see him in SA or SC. NHK seemes to be obligatory for him. For European fans - there is high possibility he'll skate in Barcelona....That way everyone will be pleased

Yes, 1st, 2nd, 3rd in Worlds are all distributed to different Gran Prix events. The only reason Yuzuru competed against Patrick at SC 2013 and TEB 2013 was that he was 4th at Worlds 2013. So Yuzuru won't see Denis and Javi until the GPF in Barcelona. Also the host has picks as well, so it's very likely that Yuzuru will be at NHK. His other Gran Prix will event will depend on where Denis and Javi are placed.

Both Yuzu and Daisuke were at the 2012 NHK, having won bronze and silver respectively at the previous Worlds. I'm guessing this has something to do with host picks. But how exactly does the GP assignment work? Couldn't find any clear step by step procedures online describing this...Much appreciated for any clarification!

They really shouldn't have met that year in the Grand Prix, but seems like Japan and France did a little rule bending agreement to get seeds #2 (Takahashi) and #3 (Hanyu) to meet at NHK and seeds #4 (Joubert) and #5 (Amodio) to meet at TEB. I'm not sure if it was ever clear how/why this happened, but I guess it just goes to show you that in figure skating everything can be a little fishy

Hahaha ic ic... Thanks a lot for the reply! Sounds like Yuzu attending NHK will be a must. With his popularity right now, I'm sure any of the 6 federations will be praying to have him attend. Fingers crossed for a SC or SA assignment.

Thanks for the explanation shiroKJ! Yes it must have been very special for Yuzu to skate in Sendai. According to one of the commentators he even lived at home during the competition Also, I think that was the competition when Yuzu first started to take over the 'Japan #1' crown from Dai-chan.

Japan wanted Daisuke because he was a crowd drawer/Japan's #1 and they also wanted to invite Yuzuru as well because it was held in Sendai, Japan. They felt it was only right to give a spot to Yuzuru so he can skate in front of his home crowd (especially since it was the year after the 2011 earthquake).

I mean yes, it was obvious why they wanted both of them there, but if they really wanted Hanyu because of his home town then it should have just been him, or just Takahashi, according to the rules. I wasn't sure why it was allowed, because I don't recall this happening before, but because it's the JSF I'm guess that they can have their cake and eat it too, that's all I'm saying.

I can no longer predict anything that will go on in this kid's skating career after this season. Maybe it's a good thing that he kept on surprising me; it's keeping my life a lot more interesting.

I hope he doesn’t have major injuries or illness in the future. I don’t think it’s realistic to expect athletes to have no injuries at all. Are there any athletes that have no injuries at all? Most of the Japanese male skaters are injured to some extent this season. I just hope if he does have an injury, it is a minor injury, so that he wouldn’t be kept off ice for too long and his training would not be affected by too much. I think this season, the injuries and illness are a bit bigger than usual, that affected his training too much.

I was thinking the only way he would not go to NHK is if JSF picked it for Shoma for his first senior year. But of course they would love it to have both there and billed it as a preview of the bloodbath that is Japan Nationals. Javier, although he has a strong fan support in Japan too (and Miki), I think would be reluctant to choose NKH since it's so late in the season and so close to GPF (where he certainly wants gold this time around at home) and then the European Championship.

Depending on where SA is held(come on! where is the announcement!), Javier might choose SC or SA, and then my wish is for Hanyu-san to choose the other one of the North American spot. Either way SC is going to be great, since we think Patrick would be there, and one of the top three men from this season would be going head to head with him too. Should be great!

That's amazing indeed! And the fact that he is quoted in two books that have completely different topics (one being focused on sociology and the other one on sports) shows how important a personality he has become: a true symbol!
That must be quite hard sometimes to carry on one's shoulders though... This kid is so strong!

Most of the Japanese male skaters are injured to some extent this season. I just hope if he does have an injury, it is a minor injury, so that he wouldn’t be kept off ice for too long and his training would not be affected by too much. I think this season, the injuries and illness are a bit bigger than usual, that affected his training too much.

So far no summer ice show has listed his name in the cast. Hopefully this summer he will have some rest. But I am afraid after WTT he will have to agree with many deals with sponsors. Maybe he will appear in FaOI? I hope Japanese posters can help us with this.

It's indeed going to be great! I hope no injuries for any men will occur nor for any further re-injury (specifically Yuzu). We all want him to have a good summer with sufficient training and minimal ice shows/public appearances.

For sure next season sounds awesome! Now with Denis and Javi up and improved the game as proper contenders and with Patrick coming back, it's gonna be a great season full of head-on competition. There's pressure to the skaters, but for the viewers it's a lot more interesting to watch and look forward to.
