Elena Radionova

New skates!!! https://instagram.com/p/2ByuraQYeg/

Welcome back umeko_yur1tasukee:agree:

Indeed, what is it? Well, I'm not complaning:biggrin:

And, totally unrelated--looks like there's another fairy-tale princess that Lena can play! If she keeps growing out her hair, she can be...Rapunzel!
https://instagram.com/p/13DO1Msd03/?taken-by=russia_girls_fan

I see similarities between the two princesses:)

Woohoo! I just hope they don't cause her problems like Yulia had with her new boots...

They look nice though! (I realize that we can't usually see what Lena's skates actually look like, because they are usually covered by her tights!) They make me want to get new skates--even though I definitely don't need new ones, haha!

Seriously though, any other over-sharing teenager would've posted a picture of herself WITH the new boots, not the new boots by themselves!! Lena, yes, the new skates are cool, and the teddy bear from your Japanese fan is cute, but REALLY, it's YOU we want to see!!

Indeed, what is it? Well, I'm not complaning:biggrin:

I'm guessing that's a photo from Lena Ilinykh's birthday party..? So far I haven't been able to find any other photos, though...Lena I. must have wanted to keep it pretty social-media free...

Well I was complaining about how little Lena posts on Instagram, and it looks like she's trying to prove me wrong! We got not one, but TWO new photos with Lena ACTUALLY in them!

Lena's in Korea for her "Bolshoi on Ice" performances!

Our Princess Rapunzel (her hair!!) is really looking grown-up nowadays...or as Lena would say, like a "real lady"
https://instagram.com/p/2IP7fWQYRb/

And WOW! Lena on a bus!
https://instagram.com/p/2JMMZZQYbh/?taken-by=lenok_radionova

She should definitely try to win more fans in Korea...ahead of the 2018 Olympics!

Speaking of fans in Asia though, the Japanese fans were talking about this on Twitter, and I finally found a link in Kanako Murakami's thread!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlxfzZY-W_s

There's a radio show with Kimura Takuya (Kimura is his last name), a very famous singer/actor, and I guess he went to watch WTT as a special guest. [I will admit that I was a big fan of his TV shows as a kid.] So one of the listeners sent in a question asking how he liked watching skating live. He said it was his first time watching a skating competition. Then around 12:00, he said something like, "[Watching figure skating]--it's amazing. Depending on the skater, and depending on the contents of the program, you can fall in love. There was a skater that was really wonderful...from Russia, I think. A 16-year old skater. There was a girl who was skating by herself to a program with flamenco-like guitar music. I have no doubt that she will make it big!"

Gee, a 16-year old Russian girl who skated to flamenco music, now who could that be?
Yep, seems like Kimutaku fell for our little cutie--and who can blame him? She's totally irresistible!

Hey, I've been to the place in the background of her Rapunzel picture! I hope she has a good time in Korea.:)
Can someone explain to me what "Bolshoi on Ice" is?

Lena's such a bad influence. I should be cutting my hair, but now I want to go blond instead.

Lena brought a new (kinda) program to Bolshoi! :cheer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnfCT-YFf9w
And an old one as well.

I never get tired of Lena's exhibitions!

I notice she took out the pearl-into-Biellmann spin. Which is a smart choice, of course, considering she doesn't need levels in exhibitions (and her new layback position is lovely). I just hope there are no back troubles, because I noticed her layback getting slower at the end of the year. :hopelessness:

And she appears to be slower, but it seems like they have some kind of background structure on the ice that takes up about 1/4 of the rink. Anyway, we probably shouldn't overanalyze a show :)

Here's the official site:
http://www.ice-show.co.kr/main/

I think there's a professional troupe that acts out short plays on ice, and then there are guest skaters...? Looks like Miki Ando, Evgenia Medvedeva and Kawaguti/Smirnov were/will be some of the guests...

Thanks for the links, Noolan!! Even though her "I will always love you" program really borrows heavily from her Rach LP, she does it with such sincere emotion, that somehow I really enjoy watching it (with the popped 3Lo and all)!!

But, my goodness! I swear that every time I see her, she looks even taller/her limbs look even longer!!

Lena's such a bad influence. I should be cutting my hair, but now I want to go blond instead.
Hahaha!! Well, it would look really funny if I dyed my hair blond, but it is getting verrryy long...

Sandpiper, that is EXACTLY what I was worrying about! Her back gets bent at such an extreme angle when she does her Biellmann, that I always thought there would be a point when it would be too difficult/painful to keep doing. I know Mao Asada had some lower back/hip pain a few years back, which is probably why she gave up her one-handed Biellmann.

If I had to guess, I would say that Lena is literally having "growing pains." It's not so much that she's losing her jumps, but she's not quite used to her longer limbs, or she hasn't built up enough strength/stamina to deal with them, so she's having back pain (like at Europeans) and running out of steam in her LP, and then there was that pinched nerve (supposedly) at WTT... Poor baby! :drama:

Sigh...this is when I wish Lena was as popular in Russia as Mao is in Japan. Mao had a dedicated personal trainer thanks to one of her sponsorship deals (and even if she didn't, she could have afforded one thanks to her other sponsorship deals), and I'm sure that was helpful...

On a happier note, here's Lena with Soyoun Park!!

I bet Zijun is jealous!! (Cuz Soyoun is her bestie)

Literal "growing pains" sounds plausible. I know Liza had chronic back problems for the past few years, though after the puberty years passed and the weight went down, she seemed okay again.

Lena's back problems have been going on since at least Europeans. :hopelessness: Perhaps she'll feel better again once she finishes growing and gets used to her new height. A less extreme layback is another option. I actually quite like a nice, classic Biellmann position akin to what Mao was doing last year--no need for everyone to do one-handed Biellmann's or pearls or hyperextended versions.

I agree. Lena seems to be the type to "grin and bear it," but I think not getting injured should be her priority!

Speaking of amazing Biellmann's, though, check out Lena's FS from 2011--crazy layback position!

(The whole performance is actually pretty fantastic, I have to say.)

I just love this outfit on her!

And another backstage photo with Song-E Chun (I think...that's what the hashtag says, and it seems like she's a Korean rhythmic gymnast...)

Lena seemed a bit more confident on the second show of the tour. I'm starting to like this new Houston program more than the old one

Thanks for the links, Noolan! I like it better too, honestly! It was fun to watch Lena dance to "Queen of the Night," but the ending was so ???? for me. Lena uses her arms so gracefully at some points in this program--it almost makes me wish she skates to something pretty & lyrical in her competitive programs so people will stop complaining about her "flailing arms"!

Lena was really spoiling us on Instagram today!
She went to her first baseball game, and it seems like she enjoyed it!

Seriously, can she be any cuter??? (I wonder who took this video though..)

Lena got a really nice doll from her Korean fans:

Judging from Lena's latest Instagram post, she's back in Moscow by now!

Here's an article about Lena's appearance in "Bolshoi on Ice."
http://m.asiae.co.kr/view.htm?no=2015050608183352212

My Korean's pretty bad, so based on GoogleTranslate, it sounds like Lena said that she wants give elegant and perfect performances like Yuna Kim. No surprise there, as she's always named Yuna, Mao, and Carolina as skaters she looks up to. I didn't realize it was her *third* time performing at "Bolshoi on Ice." No wonder she got her picture on the bus!

On a totally unrelated note, one of the clips in the Elena Radionova fan video turned out to be this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwuHqanLAVE
Of course our little star is front and center!

Oh, and one more random comment. I was wondering when this photo was taken:

But then I figured out that it must have been the 2012 Triglav Trophy!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Triglav_Trophy
Zijun, Kristina, and Elena all competed there. Hilariously enough, even though Lena was just a *novice* skater at the time (with shorter programs), with her score, she would have been SECOND in seniors!

It's getting a bit lonely here by myself...Ah well, I guess it's the off-season!! :confused2:

You may have seen this already, but Ilya Averbukh had more nice things to say about working with Lena--I guess he will be choreographing for her again!

“I look forward to continuing to work with Lena Radionova. I consider her the most gifted of the current Russian skaters. For me, she has obvious high potential.”
:agree:

I can't wait to find out what Lena is skating to!

Out of all the programs this past season, I will miss Lena's the most! Never grew tired of watching these ones, but I'm excited to see new programs for all the others skaters (Lena too).

Wise words  . I'm also very excited about her new programs and the style she'll go for.
