State of Russian Ladies in skating: 2014-15 Season

I would like to see Lena and Liza continue to battle like they did this past season.

Oh yes, with Adelina, Julia and hopefully Anna thrown in the mix. Already looking forward to the upcoming season Ladies.

Don't forget about Medvedeva and Sakhanovich, they also are going to be very competitive.

Yulia is talking business now. In today's interview she said: "

2 new programs in the next season. Megapolis was nice but I have overgrown it.
No more wrong edges.
No summer vacation this time: first school and fitness than the summer camp
I had enough time and resources this time. "

Wow!

Yay! I don't think having a bad season is always a bad thing. It has forced her and her team to confront/fix her problems (edges), it's probably really difficult to focus on a problem and get a skater to correct something when they are winning/medaling at events. Plus I like that there is some determination and focus back in her interview, a lot of her interviews last season seemed to be missing that.

Thank you. Glad to hear she'll have two new programs. :cheer:

Well she pretty much skated Megapolis perfect every time (except for maybe edge errors) so I'm glad she's not bringing back. Can't wait to see new programs from her:clap:

I hope she is also working to jump bigger. Mao and Sasha come to mind as skaters to had to modify their technique and did so successfully. She seems to have the work ethic to do so, but I believe she will be less consistent than before.

Have you seen this footage of her working on fixing her edge. It's a way better entrance(different than her flip approach and maybe even a bit higher than before). I'm not saying its perfect or she is always going to nail it but she said she was going to work on correcting it and has shown proof now that she really is.

TBH I like the height of her jumps just fine and find myself much more interested in the flow out of not only her jumps but everyone's. Height doesn't really do much for me as it often leads to less consistency and even scratchy landings. YMMV but I like her style of jumping.

Edit: She also has a new spin position out of the donut.

This looks very promising. I was not expecting this much improvement. Now I am excited for the next season.

What's the issue? Jump Rotation should be number one priority. Not jump height.
And you think Julia Lipnitskaya might have/has/ever had problems with rotating her jumps? I mean, if this girl rotated faster, she would probably soar up to the ceiling and get disqualified. ;)

Well she definitely had problems with it last season. Julia will not rotate as fast as she did 2 seasons ago, her body has changed. She will need to get more strength from her legs (thus creating more height in the jump), and keep the blades well controlled, in order to make the jumps happen. Whipping out 3Lutz+3Toe combinations will not be something automatic, like it used to be. She's still young and has a body that isn't too difficult for jumping, though, so she should be able to make it happen. Determination and mental consistency is the key.

Anna Pogorilaya is staying with Tsareva after all:

'I continue working with Anna Vladimirovna, we are preparing for the next season together. Thus this matter is closed for the moment. To be honest I wouldn’t like to go into details why the need of a coaching change arose. All is well now, we are training, and this is what matters.'

Is this good or bad news ... ?

I would say bad. It sounds like she is there because there wasn't a better alternative, it doesn't give a positive atmosphere for coach or student.

The question is what the problem was in the first case. This seems similar to Yulia / Eteri. We can only wait for next season to see how it worked out.

I'd say a bit of both. Good that Anna is not in limbo anymore. Not so good that whatever conflict was there appears to be just patched up, otherwise why to say that matter closed for the moment. There were speculations that a coaching change was not so much Anna's desire as her parents. Maybe once they realised that their ambitions (CSKA) are not realistic, things will get back to normal.
