Thx, Newbie. Very enjoyable video.
I actually wish that they had asked Jason whether he has ever studied Japanese ... and b/c his answer would have been "Yes," I wish they had asked him to speak some Japanese.
Curious whether this show relies on sheer serendipity to stumble upon characters who turn out to be good television -- or whether the video crews sometimes know in advance who they will "find."
Can't decide what I think the circumstances were in Jason's case.
If Jason were a premeditated subject, I hope the producers would have researched him sufficiently to know to ask him about his Japanese studies.
(And LOL, I think the always-lovely Kori would have thrown on some lipstick before the camera started rolling.)
Don't get me wrong, if something lighthearted such as the Jason "discovery" were staged, I would have no problem with it. And I would enjoy the video just as much.
Cute how Kori "bragged" on Jason as the U.S. champion, etc. Again, nothing wrong with that. Just cute.
The hair "bun" tucked under his cap jumped out at me too. I like the look.
I was wondering as well if we would get to hear him speak Japanese. My guess was he was either to brain dead tired from traveling to even try. . . or the producers thought it was not good enough to be worth broadcasting (I have no idea how particular the Japanese are about pronunciation and such - some cultures are more so than others). I am guessing too tired is the most likely answer.
Re: "I also hope they learn to put the glasses back on ..."
Not sure to whom you are referring.
It's the responsibility of the producer(s) to be mindful of continuity, so it would be something for the producers to learn.
But not the responsibility of subjects such as Jason and Kori, who are not going to be involved in the editing process.
I do think it would be slightly more professional of Jason and Kori to think of stuff like putting glasses back on. It helps with continuity, and no reason the can't do little things to make the lives of other easier. Some producers may not like the result and might just say "ax the stuff without glasses" so it could result in a shorter segment. No there is nothing wrong with the way it is, but it does give weird fans like me something to dissect - sometimes you don't want that, some people care more than others.
Jason is sorta entering a point where being good on camera is part of the job, and knowing about things like editing is a good thing to know. I am sure everyone involved wants him to look good and give more people the chance to fall in love with him. Taking the few seconds to put glasses back on to help with continuity is just a little thing he could do to maybe make a few other people's life a bit easier. The easier he is to work with, well the more likely people want to work with him again.
disagree.
