Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Nagoya is also a figure skating hot-spot. Many of Japan's best skaters go to Chukyo University because it has 2 ice rinks.

Wow, Nagoya has indeed produced a long list of top skaters: Miki Ando, Mao Asada, Akiko Suzuki, Kanako Murakami, Rika Hongo, Takahiko Kozuka, Shoma Uno, Sota Yamamoto, and who else?

HI everyone: just got back from vacation on a beach…and while on the beach….was still thinking about Yuzu….since so many photos of him were being published during this whole week!! Thanks everyone for all the information!!

Here is my latest blog post. I love seeing all of the information about Yuzu, yet sometimes I think that we all want too much of him. I think it used to be a fine line until the advent of social media where it seems that all bets are off, and everyone, and everything about someone is fair game.

That was a thoughtful piece, thanks for sharing. It's true that fame has a dark side. My prayer is that Yuzuru will always be protected from its pitfalls.

I've always liked your blog entries and I find this one quite interesting. Just as in all areas, the internet has had a strong effect on FS, and Yuzuru is kind of like the first skater to become inmensely popular in the internet era, among the 'internet generations'. His inmense talent, personality, looks and the fact that he keeps making history for Japanese FS are main factors in this, but also all the coverage from the media. And coming from a country where FS is more popular than the average on most countries doesn't hurt either. I mean, where else would you see a parade dedicated for a figure skater alone?
What I adore about him is that, as you said, he's using this fame to promote charitable causes. And combined with Yuzuru's 'it' factor that just draws you in, the media coverage on him has introduced a lot of the younger generation people into FS, something the sport has been struggling with (and still is) for some time.
But I also agree that, though I love watching new things about him, it can be too much sometimes. That image of him being taken out of COC rink in a stretcher, I still get the chills when I think about it (the bad ones). Those few months between Japanese Nats and Worlds when we didn't know a thing about him, though it was a bit hard I also thought 'he's finally got a break'.
Yuzu has been on the spotlight since he was very young and his talent was noticed. I think he has grown kind of used to having cameras around him (among what one can get used to, of course), and that, combined with the support from the people around him and his focused personality has helped him not to crack under the pressure. I've rarely seen that happen to him, and never after becoming the no. 1 skater. It's another thing that sets him apart, just these two seasons alone, I've seen skaters getting a lot of hype and being victims of the nerves.
He's very polite and may sometimes have a hard time saying no to the cameras, but I'd like to think that the media itself has a sense of when it can be too much. And he also gets help from the people around him, even the JSF like how they did before Worlds.
Thanks for always sharing your posts here! They're certainly great to read :)

 Very well written.

I've seen the rumor that he is going to Nagoya for some kind of an award? I think it was just speculation, anyhow we will know soon enough.

So since this hasn't been posted, apparently the lady who got his shirt in the last show was Miss Universe (please correct me if this is wrong), and she posted the shirt on her blog (scroll down please ;)) This is definitely one of the nicer hearts he drew this time around, no?

Lovely words and picture from Max and Tatiana

Welcome back from your vacation!! Hope you've enjoyed it!!

And what a wonderful post!! I seriously wouldn't have known Yuzu if it's not for the internet!! And Yuzu is really doing a good job in coping with the attention and adores from all over the world!! And it's really touching to see him using his fame for noble causes like blood donation and the rebuilding of his hometown!!

wow, we, fans, are in for a treat, but it sounds so busy for yuzu!!

Here is the Translation of the press conference in Nagoya

I'm so glad he's decided to give his health top priority this season, the last one was really a learning experience for him. And he's so polite talking about Mao's return, not saying things that might add more pressure to her. And hopefully he'll succeed with his quads on the second half :cheer:

Thank you Nagini ^-^. Looks like he is thinking carefully about the quad in the second half, at least in the short program. thb I don't know how to feel about this. I'll just trust that he and the coaches take a wise decision.
