Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Now I am afraid that Yuzuru might never go to TEB again given that it's a bit close to NHK. CoR is out of question. So all his choice will be SA, SC or CoC in the next 3 years. NHK he must do. He can only go to TEB again if JSF agree to release him just one year. But I doubt it.

Is the not-skating-close-events a privlige of top skaters? This year Misha Ge has CoC and TEB back to back, and the same was with Han Yan last year... Although it might be because their home base is in China. Hardly seems fair, though.

So in a way, Yuzu is the skater the big fed wants to avoid if the fed has their own gold medal contenders, other than nhk. They really only invited Yuzu because there were no other better alternatives.

Now I think about it, I believe the reason the bv of 3t and 3s are raised is because the bv of ur 4t and 4s are increased. If they don't raise the bv of 3t and 3s, the gap between the Bv of a ur and downgraded 4t and 4s would betoo big. The bv of other triples don't change because the bv of other ur quads don't change. So all these changes target 4t And 4s jumpers. They want to make sure nonfallen ur 4t and 4s are worth more than a fallen rotated 4t and 4s.

so you mean they don't want to see skaters falling? (is that it? the point is they are discouraging falling down?) --> but they accept trials like UR quads without falls? (so the point is a clean routine?)

I think both Yuzu and Patrick are now in this situation. And now I just realized that Plushenko might still take a spot of CoR so one more reason for CoR not to want Yuzu.

It could be, but I suspect that decision has more to do with Ladies' skating and rasing the value of combinations since 3T and 3S are commonly used in combinations.

That, or making the final score more fair. It really doesn't look good if a routine with falls scores way higher than one without. Harsh punishment for URs can also stop skaters from trying quads. IMO the 1 extra negative point for a fall doesn't make that much difference as to discourage skaters from going for them but it makes the final score more fair, and higher UR BV makes more skaters (like Jason or Adam Rippon) go for the quads. UR quads would still get lots of negative GOE to go along with the slightly lower BV so it's not like UR quads are any competition to fully rotated landed quads.

Dunno if this video has been posted here, it's part of the new FS
program:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRpDyBez6bc

Thanks for the video! The A spin...forgot that was part of the program  At any rate, the rest of it looks so good!! I know in the past Yuzuru has had a reputation for being noodle-y, so I really feel like this program will do him well. It just overall seems that his limb movements are more controlled and deliberate. Also, I'm hoping that he did something more with the ina bauer this time. Don't get me wrong, I adore his ina bauer, but I'd rather he just take it out than have it as a "here is the climax of the music" type of thing. But I do recall someone saying in a previous post that his ina bauer this time made more sense interpretation-wise, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see!

You also have noticed that part! Actually, when I saw him at Makuhari FaOI, two weeks ago, it felt like he was an Onnagata in that Believe performance. As I told, I’m a sucker for Japanese traditional performance, so I’m familiar with them. His flexibility seemed to increase. And that soft atmosphere like a feather was beyond description.
Apart from that, I thought his overall body movement came to have some “pause or timing”. (I want to say, “間”, but I can’t turn it into English properly…) I guess his experience to watch tons of images of traditional performance in choreography of SEIMEI had affected his performance in a good direction. Japanese traditional performance most focuses on suitable pause or timing.

Anyway, the theme of a Sharman with supernatural powers or somewhat is much more difficult than “Geisha” (“SAYURI” Nakano Yukari), “Samurai” (“Last Samurai”, Nobu) or the like. It might not be easy subject for audience to understand. But he can do it well in the end. I hope so.

I remembered the compliment of Philip Mills to Machida, He said Machida was the best student for him above Kuwan. That’s because “He(Machida) was willing to let me push him out of his comfort zone, and I really appreciated that." I think about what it means to get rid of his “comfort zone”. I feel like this program will bring him a kind of drastic change in some aspects, especially, in his expression.

It is true some Japanese fans have been talking what it would be like if Yuzuru plays Onnagata. I laughed at his comment because it was as if he was listening to our talk
But I learned from his comment this time that he is well aware of his fans requests.

His being dressed as a girl in a show (Yuzuki?) was totally a school boy's joke, and it gave me a kind of relief, but still I cannot throw away some sort of daydream in me. It's funny, but I think lots of you guys would understand what I mean

This is BANDO Tamasaburo, a famous onnagata. Just information for those who are not familiar with Kabuki, and to know what Yuzuru meant. Needless to say, this is a male dancer.

Joking aside, in any case, I was astonished again to know what a clever person he is. He knows very well about himself. About his characteristics, what to sell, what to improve, and what he should do as a skater, and how to spend his skater's life preparing for the next Olympics. He is very rational. And we all know he is a person of passion at the same time. Very complex, but very magnetic.

I want to see NHK, but I have already given up about the ticket. I'm rather the type of Gudetama (lazy egg), and no guts to join the ticket getting battle :ohwell:

This time, as Yuzuru and Mao will attend, surely it would be more severe than ever.

Loved this! Thank you so much for the link. I learn and experience so much from this thread, proving Yuzuru and his fans are amazing~

well that was certainly interesting to watch...

Anyone from vancouver planning to go to Skate Canada? I am seriously contemplating it...but I don't want to go alone :(

From IFSmagazine "First time in modern history all 3 Olympic men's medalists will compete in a post-Olympic season." Really?? I guess someone has always retired afterwards......

From Edmonton and going to SC! Super excited for my 1st live FS event. You should definitely go, the cast this year is kinda amazing! I typically don't get too excited over skaters other than Yuzu, but Pchiddy+Nam+Joshua+Kanako+Liza+Ashley+Duhamel&Radford+Weaver&Poje+Shibutanis definitely should be quite attractive combined!!

Hurry though, coz I was only able to get an upper bowl ticket :( will hopefully get a better ticket if ppl sell them later on...

Feel free to contact me if you do decide to go and will need a lunch or dinner buddy :)

Very intresting fact indeed :)
Well, as far as I know, it's quite common for the medalists to retire after the Olympics (particularly the champion), since it's rare for them to be young enough to go for another 4 years (in the particular case of the men's field). It's been a while since the 3 Olympic medalists were all so young (Yuzu was 19, Patrick 23 I think, and Denis 20), guess it would be logical for them to keep competing :agree: thank you for sharing, I adore reading these kind of things.

I'm surprised, too. You'd think that at least ONCE in history it would've happened...but oh well, guess it's a premonition that this will be an exciting season!

Dalia posted new mad to YouTube.
If you like her mad SuzyQ posted in relation to seimei, you might love this, although the taste is considerably different.
You can see handsome yuzu.

Thanks for the link hamaguri. The dragon images there reminded me of this video by another talented and creative fan videomaker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWC6NGY7f5g.

Thank you SuzyQ for always providing us with Japanese culture annotations.

I whole-heartedly agree with your assessment of Yuzuru that he knows himself very well, astonishing really because at his age, many people are just discovering themselves and what they want to do with their lives. I read a recent post in another forum where the poster opined that Yuzuru still doesn't know himself and thus his skating artistry is "inauthentic" though he may later develop his artistry. I thought then that it was the poster who doesn't know Yuzuru for if one has followed him closely and read his interviews and seen his progress, it's evident this is a person who has a high degree of self-awareness. And I think "SEIMEI" is proof of that and hopefully will cause the poster to see Yuzuru in a more favorable light.

LoL at the first comment. Maybe the person was thinking of how Yuzuru's post Olympic season went. And Denis, who did compete also post Olympics, had his share of troubles, IIRC boot problems early in the season and then that unfortunate incident at Worlds SP. Anyway wishing all three Olympic medalists a trouble-free season and their best skating performances.

Thanks everyone for the updates, links, translations, and the informative posts about the GP skater selections and changes in scoring jumps.

I think I know which poster from another forum you are talking about, and I wouldn't pay much attention to that opinion. That person was habitually goes on and on about "authenticity" and "artistry" and how Yuzuru doesn't have it, and people are usually so persistent about bringing another skater down only if they resent said skater's success and popularity (usually because that skater is doing better than their favorite).

Yuzuru defnintely does have his own style. I have never seen a skater like him before. He's an amazingly unique blend of strength and delicatness, speed and fluidity, power and lightness and from the recent interview it sounds like Yuzuru realizes that about himself and can exploit that. I like it when Yuzuru emphasizes the lightness of his skating because it's a rare trait in Men's skating and even rarer to be emphasized. (I like it when women ephasize the power of their skating.) A skater who doesn't know himself wouldn't have been able to pull off both Parisian Walkways and Chopin's Ballade.
