Joshua Farris

And now, since he still hasn't announced the music for his FS, what music would you like to see Josh performing? He has been doing rather depressing and slower themes recently, so would something upbeat fit? Or maybe he could try tango (even though he did two seasons ago)?

How about REM's Shinny Happy People. That seems a good mix of upbeat peppy but also cynical depressing emo undertones (seriously check out the ukelele player in the video. . .so clearly does not want to be there). It is perfect for Josh. We can as an audience pretend it is happy and upbeat, but we all know that in truth it matches his "broke my soul" mindset.

 I do hope everything's mended for him this season.

This is not something you fix, this is something you duct tape and move on with until you need to use more duct tape.

On that note, I think the duct tape is holding very well right now. I loved his comment about NHK, it shows the right attitude in my mind. Being able to joke about your failings is a huge asset.

Sorry, I didn't mean to make light of Josh's mindset as I was just recalling the origin of "broke my soul." I do know he tends to be too hard on himself and is getting help to get into a competitive frame of mind. He's so talented that I just wish he will get everything together this season. And I would love to see him on the podium with Yuzuru and Jason at NHK.

I did not think you were. Some people do sometimes think these types of things are fixable once and for all, I tend to think they are more of an issue you manage but that sticks with you. But it sounds like you, me, Josh, and most everyone knows that. I like how he has been addressing things.

I think he at least will learn from this season, good or bad. He does seem to have pretty sensible head on his shoulders, as well as a sensitive one. . . and a flat out pretty one. I mostly just want him to go a full year without injuries.

:agree:
And I believe that Josh himself would be joining in the laughter  over the reporter's transcription error of "broke my sole" -- and that Josh would see humor esp. in the notion that it still is coming up in this thread (months after the original garbling).

I would hope so, else I would feel very guilty!

Karne, I opened the first page of the topic and ... I respect you and your work. I can add another video. Russian commentator says this champion was the best from the very beginning to the very end, and ahead of the second place on 30 points. It's Gala 2009 http://youtu.be/W4sC4YS6GHw

I can take none of the credit for the way the first post is laid out - the mods have been going through and reformatting. I believe my original first post included my favourite Joshua programs, but little more - and of course, that was before Give Me Love, before the magic that became Schindler's List.

But this video-! This video I have been searching for ever since I first heard of its existence! Thankyou so much! Little baby Joshua was so adorable - and there are moments, little hints, all through at the man that he will grow into.

He grew up, but remained unfeigned, sincere on ice and this year is the key, turning point for him. His skating is even more attractive than in childhood. Appears maturity, but the physical power, that is physical strength still lacking. He needs a lot of general physical training and no injuries! No injuries!

Wait, what? Is Josh injured again? :bang:

That's what they said. And he is not on the Broadmore open schedule. Later in the video they did talk about him like he will still be at his grand prixs, but still poor guy. Sucks to lose training, I hope he is ok.

Well .... thx for flagging the vid, Stitch ... but it was exceedingly vague, IMO: Josh "apparently" is injured again.
So I will hope for the best.

Josh -- intentionally, AFAIK/IIRC -- did not compete at the Broadmoor Open in 2013 or 2014.
In both years, his summer comp was the Vail Invitational.

I do not hold much credibility for TSL in regards to Josh, who they've taken pot-shots at pretty much since day one. It's like any news they have of Max - take it with a heavy grain of salt.

It's possible that the injury they were thinking of is related to the sling pictures that were getting around a month or so ago, but as we have seen from the Josh burger pictures, both arms appear to be in working order.

Either way, as golden pointed out above, Josh hasn't done the Broadmoor Open in years, so his absence from that event is not a surprise or meaning anything. It would also not surprise me if they chose to skip the jumps event for the reasons of preservation - or maybe, "Oh darn Max is going to grab this and run with it so why break myself trying" (, jesting, of course).

Damon made a comment early last season that had me very worried, and still lingers in my mind. The comment was largely overlooked, but it was probably telling. He mentioned that they were trying to massage Josh through each season, and avoid surgery. The phrasing of it, to me, made it sound like the surgery on the ankle is inevitable, and anything else is just a waiting game. I hope not so.

Yeah, never sure how much weight to put into some of the 'news' they share. In that same video, they also think Skate Canada is going to be in Ottawa this year.

I hope you are both right and wrong karne.

I hope you are right to not give them much credit, but my first reaction was to scream no and commiserate.

As for surgery, well I hope that is wrong or misheard or something. If it is to the point they are actively avoiding surgery, maybe it is time to just suck it up and have it. Really this is the season to do it if you might be needing it soon. Skip this season, that gives skaters the 2016-2017 to remind people they are back and the 2017-2018 season to prove they should be on the Olympic team. This would be the best season to skip. Though the idea of an ankle massage is a bit odd to me.

Anyway, I just want him to be healthy.

And I can't recall many pot shots at Josh actually, if anything i would say he is one their favorites, or at least was for awhile there - I think they like (or at least liked) Josh more than Jason or Max, and really all but maybe Adam. But again, TSL is weird, i still find it interesting, but yes lots of head scratching. For instance they seem to be convinced that Tom Z and Kori Ade are rivals now, I find the idea amusing, but I am not sure it is coming out of anything other than wishful thinking.

Pot shots? I seem to recall both Jenny and Dave giving him high praise after nationals and 4cc.

And like them or not, they're far more in the know than most of us in this forum. They clearly are in regular direct contact (texting) a number of skaters: just look how frequently theyve had Doug razzano and Alissa on the show, and receive exclusive videos from people like Mariah and Alex Johnson.
