Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Yes I got accepted and now only the paper work's left. Thanx for concern. <3

That's good to know. Congratulations and all the best in your new job. :)

Sharing this video link of Yuzuru's "Believe" program set to "Clair de Lune" posted by Mathman in another thread: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2uh0ep_y-h-believe-meets-debussy-clair-de-lune_sport. The uploader YzRIKO quite rightly saw how Yuzuru's skating there is like moonlight (literal meaning of the title of Debussy's composition), soft and light.

My latest blog post. When the pictures of Yuzu's visit to Fukushima came out, I was inspired to write this post.

Thanks again for another great blog post. I thought of the devastatation of Sendai when I watched the second "Onmyoji" movie at the scene of the destruction of the capital. Yuzuru may not have the magical powers of Seimei in the movie to be the "guardian" of his city, but his skating undeniably provides joy, hope, and inspiration to the people of Sendai and the other places affected by the 3.11 earthquake. And as your blog entry recounts, even off the ice he is contributing to the region's rebuilding.

I also believe the earthquake also helped in making him who he is right now, a champion both on and off the rink. It made him realize how much skating means to him after it was nearly taken away from him, as well as helped forge that steely determination to make the most of every moment to improve himself.

Oh, the music sounds so great in HQ. It must be really cool echoing through an arena.

I love the slow part in the middle. Generally, I don't enjoy the "breather" parts of the program too much, they often are kinda boring in comparison with the rest. But wow, the music here is so cool, so mysterious, perfect for gliding and just setting up for that those jumps. Like, it doesn't really matter that there isn't much going on in that part because music itself fills the program in a perfect way.

And ouch, those falls look painful. I admire him for the ability to get up smoothly.

I know right? You could hear his body hitting the ice, I winced the first few times I watched it (no, of course I haven't watched it more times than I can count, what do you mean? ) but he just brushes it off smoothly.
I can't help but wonder, if everyone knows DOI is for the skaters to show their programs, why do they use such a small rink? The guys can barely perform the big jumps because of it.

His butt brushed the ice right on the note!

The use of the small rink beats me for sure.

Now I am thinking after Onmyoji maybe Yuzuru can play Hamlet: https://youtu.be/xP3Ftg5PcV8

You think yuzu can portray Hamlet? I’ve never thought of that. Hamlet seems to be in the strong background of Western culture and thought. Further, Hamlet reminds me of a sort of magnificent actor like Laurence Olivier. I feel like it is most difficult for Japanese skater to play Hamlet. If he challenges himself to Hamlet, it will lead to stretching his expression to much extent. I want to see him playing Hamlet.

Thank you for great post! He never forgets the Tohoku disaster and carries out what he believes his mission, despite being the center of spotlight.... His visit to Fukushima reminded me of his strong will. And I was impressed that he'd heard people taking with a truly affectionate expression on his face. Further, the fan art of the T-shirt character was so adorable! :)

HD version of SEIMEI from last night

Loving the detail of the costume with some close-up shots. I understand that the white/silver on competition ice may blend in too much, but I hope it doesn't change too much.

I think so! This costume is something noble and elegant and makes his purity clear. I love it:o:.

Yuzuru flies when he jumps. That 4s looks fabulous. I find his 4s more beautiful than his 4t when he lands it. I hope he doesn't fall that many times in competitions. It's painful to watch him fall.

Am I the only one that likes his spins? His spins are well-centered, fast, have beautiful positions, showcase his flexibility and go with the flow of the music.

I think his lp will be amazing when he performs to its full potential.

I am late to the party. I'm really glad that he choose to skate to Onmyouji theme. Not only because it is an unconventional music choice. When I saw his performance for the first time when he was 15, I thought his look resemble on of Onmyouji character in manga of Clamp. So this is kind of imaginary fulfillment for me.

Even his hair (not hair gel) looks the same as Subaru Sumeragi:

Now I wonder who can play Seishiro?

 Did you have mind reading ability? I always think Yuzuru is Subaru come alive!
Hope he doesn't have to face the same fate though :p
Eh no about Seishiro then. Please God have some mercy. :laugh2:

Lol because I also read Clamp. When I was in high school I was kind of skeptical about Clamp while my female friends love their works. I was like "gezz too much drama too flowery..." But Subaru is actually a strong character. I remember a scene in which he hold hands of some boys when they did something bad and they were scared because his hands were so strong.
Yuzuru gave me the same vibe, so delicate but so strong.

And Tokyo Babylon was written from 1990 to 1993, even before when Yuzuru was born. Don't tell me Clamp creations have come to life. :drama:

:agree:

I think Yuzu's spins were already amazing when he was a young kid and he developed them together with jumps. His spins make his natural body's elegance shine , expecially because of his very long legs.

about his new LP, I think it has the potential to match R&J 1 finally... The music breathes and the program has a soul ... everything is played on Yuzu's stunning body lines..

To be honest the only skater I can think of who could play Seishiro is Plushenko...

I have thought about that when someone posted a picture of Subaru after news and photos about SEIMEI came out, but I cannot find anyone who could play that role (tbh I even imagined of an older Brian Joubert but nope, nvm). Surprised to know that many people in this board are CLAMP's fan/read CLAMP

Most guys come across as too nice to be Seishiro, but I think Plushenko has enough innate attitude that he could pull off Seishiro's smirking predatory self-confidence. (Of course he'd need a makeover because Seishiro is supposed to be very handsome )

I don't think it's so strange that there are many CLAMP fans here. If any skater would appeal to a manga fan, it would naturally be Yuzuru. His person and skating represents what many manga fans go for: drama and romanticism, "delicactenss and strength", pretty boy-ishness... (Hey, I wouldn't mind if Yuzuru decided to dye his hair blond and play Tsubasa's Fai next.)
