Yulia Lipnitskaya

Will be there time for this? Will she be recompensated for it? It's all about points, points, points. :rolleye:

She already gets good PCS. If it goes up a little because she is executing her elements even better and secures her landings her scores will be up there. She may not have the technical edge to be an automatic gold medalist but she'll be in the mix. If she eventually ups her content by 2018 and adds some new big thing she'll be a favorite. If not...well listen to Julia. "It's not the end of the world". It's very comforting to listen to someone who never feels obligated to speak.

I believe there is more than enough time for this especially considering she started in February:yes:

A huge challenge. But would she be practicing this style if she didn't intend to use it?

I completely share your concerns. Ice shows may eventually be her venue of choice.

No, I mean time during the skate. I've read you guys saying that Julia rushed spirals and spins in SL and Megapolis, compared to preseason skates, because there's no additional points for accentuating all the positions and extensions and time is limited.

[SUP][/SUP]I guess I can see your concern but ...I believe she will find a way to convey her message and hit all the crucial points. Those are all PCS points...TR,INT,P/E, and CH things. I've never really been too concerned with her skating in that regard. A slower more refined look isn't going hurt her at all. It's part of a growing body and mind as Borzaya pointed out earlier.

Well, I think this was about her growing up - she is not as quick as a kid, but becomes more mature, it's quite a natural process, it can't be helped. As for "not being ready yet" or "bringing back the triples" - smb mentioned in vk, that the interview was taken after Yulia's trip to USA to Zueva, it was just published now... so that was back in May when she was saying it.

Thank you for pointing all this out! I do find it rather reassuring. Many skaters don't have jumps in good condition in May. I think she has plenty of time to get them in shape. I'm more concerned about her stamina, because no matter how beautifully she skates, she still has to skate through her LP and do it cleanly in order to get on the team. But if this is a natural and inevitable process that happens to everybody, then it's probably not as alarming as I thought that she can't skate as fast as she used to or execute a step sequence she did before.

Personally I loved both Megapolis and the Sabre Dance. And, of course, I love her personality. But for me, it's not about what I like. It's what she wants out of her life, and I'm sure if she couldn't compete anymore she would be unhappy. She said that it wouldn't be the end of the world if she didn't manage to master a quad - something no lady does anyway - not if she doesn't get her triples back or is unable to compete for some other reason. I know that she's hard on herself and not glad to win with an imperfect skate, but I'm sure if she doesn't get to go to Euros and Worlds and to medal there, she'll be unhappy too. Most top athletes feel this way, naturally, and I don't see any sings that Yulia is any different.

Well, as she says, it takes a level head, good health and luck, and I very much wish her all of these! Hopefully, by the end of October, at SA, we'll see her do beautiful, clean programs, which won't have to rely on PCs alone to win.

I read your remark that way. The instagram clip https://instagram.com/p/4Uh8X3kLT8/?taken-by=sunnylipnitskaya is quite different than anything she did before.

The instagram clip shows that she is no longer trying to play each note with her body (as she often did in SL, which often gave it a rushed quality), but she is drawing a picture of the meaning of the notes by using similar gestures in sequence. We saw sequences in Megapolis with the reaching arm, but not so beautifully constructed and focused. Her huge challenge is to do this so convincingly that the audience and judges are overwhelmed with emotion, which will get her points for quality rather than quantity. If she succeeds, the music will become like a story line, and her movement will be the expression of the meaning of that story (not of the notes themselves, as in the past). This focus on one aspect of music, on its meaning, will slow things down considerably and there will be the opportunity to display very beautiful, elegant sequences. She seems poised to take a big step forward in the dancer maturing into the poet.

I loved this interview. Honestly I don't understand why the worries, for what? She's not a kid anymore and I for one am very happy that she's working on her skating skills and learnning to be more relaxed and more mature in her skating. She's fast on ice (hell she was fast last season) but she's referring to movements which is only good. I like Sabre Dance too, to take the example she took, and it was fast but also frantic.
If there was one thing that I wanted Yulia to improve was slow down a bit and learn to phrase the music better through her movements and position. Keep some of those position longer by accentuating each move and extension because it is not true that there are no additional points for that. It all goes to the benefit of the PCS and that should become her forte. ;)
I loved everything about this interview. :cheer:Go Yulia! :cheer2:

I hope Yulia's body has stopped growing so she will have less pain.

The worst of her problems occurred the year before SL, 2012-13. Flat feet is the only cause mentioned so far. Here is a picture of the effect of flat feet, before and after correction with orthotics: http://drkevingavin.com/images/conditions/Flat Feet/Flat Feet 2.bmp. The stress fractures and sprains occurred because the foot was out of line with the leg, thus twisting the bones and soft tissue. Her condition was corrected enough to get through the Olympic year, and apparently has been eliminated since then. She feels no pain, the boots fit, and she is able to do edges properly, all indicating this is behind her.

This is old interview, May-June.

May-June is not old but it doesn't matter anyway because there is no new info in this interview.
She was speaking about her past, things that have already happened and we already know, and what she wants to do in the future.

These distinctions are important. Sabre Dance strikes me as the ultimate imitation of the notes of the music. Her body is a visual instrument, we see every note imitated purely, perfectly. It was a good choice of music for her style at that time. In an interview she said the first R&J was all about the music (by this she meant the notes, as opposed to feeling), and the second R&J was about the girl. The weakness of SL is that she tried to do both notes and feeling. Sometimes there was too much content. This density fit better in Megapolis. As she increasingly relates to the emotional character of music, she can choose to shift focus away from imitating the notes without sacrificing content whenever that is to her advantage. The recent Instagram clip is an example.
It's good to read that she won't lose points if she does this well.

For some reason it seems to me - Yulia will have a successful season. And if to look at her whole career - successful seasons with unsuccessful alternate at it

Am I the only one who finds this entertaining?

Someone hug the cameraman for knowing how to find the most important thing happening on the ice:biggrin:

Might as well follow up with this then too if you liked that.

Sorry moviebuff but my phone doesn't have AdobeFlash so I can't watch that clip...yet. Hopefully it works on my computer. Thanks for sharing anyway:)
