2015 Glacier Falls Summer Classic, July 30-Aug. 2, Anaheim, CA

Hi there! I was there tonight!

Jason fell on all three of his jump attempts, including missing his flip combo. I'm almost certain the quad got downgraded as well. His spins were also a little off - - on his final spin he has added an illusion spin I haven't seen him do before [he does it in footwork, but usually not in spin] and it threw the whole final spin off (he was traveling like crazy on it).

Nathan landed 4T, 3A (both deserving of neutral GOE in my opinion, but clean!) and then landed a 3Z-3T. He was hitting quads easily the warmup, I might've spied a 4T-3T out of the corner of my eye.

In addition to Brendan in the first group, Nathan, Daniel, Ricky, and Grant were all landing quads left and right in the second group warmup, it was quite fantastic even though they weren't really able to deliver as well in the programs.

Tim was a treat. My favorite performance of the evening for the men, even though he had to save some wonky jumps (one of the weirdest 3A landings I've ever seen since he went super off axis). Such. flow.

---

Gracie: 3Lz-3T shaky on the 3T, in part because she nearly hit the barrier. 3F(e??), 2A better than last year. Spins have improved, better speed. Good program. Never hit a 3Lz-3T in the warmup clean despite multiple attempts, a couple close but 3T<

Tyler: 3T-2T, 2A, but then I believe popped her Lutz. much better speed into her jumps

Courtney: 3F-threeturn-3T, 2A out of nowhere, 3Lz HUGE. got standing ovation for greattttt new program.

Karen: 3Lz-3T but both probably <, 3Lo, then for the finale planned a 2A that she fell HARD and missed her final Bielmann spin

Amber: popped lutz, popped flip, fine 2A. jazz number similar to last year. She actually had anded the first CLEAN 3Lz-3T of the night in warmup, shame she coudln't in the program.

Mariah: new program starts serious but then turns almost riverdancey ever so slightly. Tried 3F-3T but fell (hit it once in warmup but 3T<), then fell on her 3Lz(e) in the corner.

Polina: Her program is a freaking masterpiece. 3Lz-3T, 3F (she was working like crazy in the warmup on the edge, like Gracie), and 2A. simple black ballerina-esque dress and a ladylike program. She has grown up and I'm glad I was able to tell Rudy Galindo he choreographed a masterpiece in person. Had a couple good 3Lz-3T in the warmup, too. <-- This was U.S. champion worthy. Wow.

I'm thinking Polina was given some nice GOE.

Paulina was gorgeous tonight. A very sophisticated program. I was really impressed. She is in it to win it. Like another poster said, US Champion worthy! I thought she deserved the highest component scores.

Was it a quad toe attempt of is he going for the quad sal?

*whines* You are such a tease! Do you mean Brendan did land the quad? Was it 4T or 4S (he can and usually does do both)? Combination? Music? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease? *bats eyelashes*

:p

No kidding. Folks, you're in for a treat when you see this program! I'm so glad I stayed to the end!

I think I should go to bed now lol.

Can't wait to see how everyone is going to do.

I'm on such a happy high now.

Haha I was thinking of you the whole time, karne. lol literally told my friend "one of the ladies on the forum I'm on online is obsessed with this guy". I *believe* it was the 4T. I don't remember too much about the program at this point except that I think he was wearing a red shirt... :(. He either fell on it in the program or landed wonky; I just remember thinking "oh too bad it was so good in the warmup" Don't think I saw it in combination.

Daniel doubled his 4T but then hit a good 4S. Grant was landing 4T in warmup, not in the program but did have a decent 3A. Ricky is really "muscling" his jumps and it is disconcerting to me because that really isn't a good sign. His 3A looks much more forced than it used to. He fell on his 4T, though he hit it okay in warmup.

I can't wait now for videos to surface online now! I kinda wish now that she'll be at Skate American because I would want to see her skate in person as I saw Ashley and Gracie skate once (Thanks to Stars on Ice 2014).

I'm getting more pumped up for the senior B and GP series now. September and October can't come any sooner!

I promise you I will report more carefully on him for the long. :) It actually just hit me that he was sitting about 5 feet away from me for the entire ladies competition. LOL oops

!!!!!!

You should have said hi - he's really nice. :)

I just got home from the competition and I'll give some (I need a notebook or something I swear) overall impressions of skaters/programs. Btw I saw a loooot of people recording performances on their phones/handheld cameras/other technology, so I'm pretty sure videos will be popping up relatively soon.

I apologize in advance for having very little info on the men as my heart was racing the entire men's competition because Ilia Kulik was sitting 4 feet away from me (which turned to one foot when someone joined his group of peoples) and I really wanted to ask to take a selfie but was too afraid to do so for... basically until the ladies started.

Jason- he looked ok in the warmup- his 3/3 was good, his 3 axel was fine, he tried 2 quad toes and was really close on both but fell on them and yeah the jumps didn't happen in the short today but I'm glad he's going for everything and not doubling out of the quad attempt. There's also a ton going on in the program I like it. I briefly chatted with him afterwards and he seemed to be in great spirits and was happily signing things and taking pictures with people. His voice sounded a little hoarse but it didn't look like the performance phased him.

Nathan Chen- on point. Jumps were there, it's the same program from last year, he did a great job.

Gracie- Someone's already reported on the jumps so I'll just say I dig this program for her. She's using her arms and hands better, I'm a little bummed I didn't see more facial drama, maybe she did that to the judges idk, but I like it for her and I'm looking forward to seeing it grow over the season.

Courtney- skated to The Feeling Begins and I was a little skeptical but I liked the program overall. Ilia was impressed with her jumps because they are huuuge.

Karen- Is still skating with the knee strap but her warmup looked good and it's unfortunate that the fall on the double axel kinda messed with the end of her program it was good up until that point. The music may be a little big for her but it's not the worst program for her.

Mariah- She did a nice 3 flip/3 toe in the warmup and I'm glad she's going for it in the short. Similar to Jason her warmup had a few issues but wasn't bad overall it just didn't happen in the competition but I like the music choice, she went for everything, and her dress is pretty and super shiny.

Polina- I was surprised with her program. Her jumps looked good, don't ask me about edges I'm sure videos will show it better than I saw, but the program is well choreographed and she skated it very well.

I'm sorry this isn't the most thorough recap I'm very tired but very happy with today. It's still super early, these programs are new, I don't really care about the mistakes right now.

I also really wish I understood Russian cause Ilia had something to say about almost everyone but would switch from English to Russian in the same conversation so I never knew the full extent of what he was saying. At one point he was talking about some female skater being super close to landing a triple axel with no harness but from instagram alone that could be anyone.

I blame this competition for me being unable to sleep. It's 3:33 am and I see no point going to sleep. Cause if I sleep till 10:00 am, I'll be so mad at myself.
