2015-16 State of U.S. Men's Figure Skating

The Grey Orchestra album has no association with the Baz Luzhrman movie remake. Rather the band in question was covering the song in the style of the Charleston dance. If you look at the album basically he does the reverse of Luzhrman --take modern songs and put them in a vintage style. Very similar to the folks at the Post-Modern jukebox. If you look at thee choreography, Jason is actually trying to integrate some of the quickstep moves, which would go along with the dances of that Gatsby era.

Some folks have noted that Jason's choreo actually include some of the quickstep pattern you may see with ice dancers in a short dance (or compulsory). Doing the pattern is challenging enough. Doing it with jumps make it more challenging. And he is attempting the quad. So if that isn't pushing yourself, I don't know what is.

Thanks for the clarity, that was why i was surprised actually... i keep thinking I dont' remember hearing that music from the film. All music can take at face value, but when you get into the nitty gritty, it certainly get interesting. Now I am curious about Jason's SP now... how different it really is from his last outing.

This is his Glacier Falls sp. It's a hot mess. He fell on all three jumping passes. He looks like a catering waiter with the poorly tailored outfit. However, you will see the quick step choreography, the quad attempt. Its also worth noting that he is putting the 3f-3t combo in the last 20 seconds of the program. So he is trying to push himself.

And this is coming form his fans! I agree this one had problems and was not fully ready yet. I still think it looks fun and has promise and looks exhausting. I am really looking forward to seeing a non-hot mess version of it soon... I hope.

... now where the heck is Josh Farris and his free???? Is he waiting for Skate Canada to tell us??? Maybe it is a Batman sound track.

Where is the quick step choreo, can you specify in this video? Thanks.

It's sprinkled throughout, but 1:20 you can see him do quickstep moves before his 3A. And there is a box step that is part of his step sequence.

That's what I thought, there are some toe steps (right before his illusion type move, hand touch ice) sorta like tap dance, is that from ice dance as well, I seems have an impression that last a couple of years some of the SD had those type of move.

Grateful that others are able to articulate what I was thinking, so I will just sit back and read, but...

I like Doris' formulation WGWG and I'm sorry he's using Give Me Love again, but ...

Since he doesn't want to say, and he likes sad songs, go with a classic:

I enjoy a touch of melancholy in figure skating. I'm ready to get depressed.

Then you should be ecstatic if Josh actually skated to "You Don't Know Me", particularly the heart wrenching version I posted from the Genius of Soul;)

Jason is a showman and worldwide seems to be the skater most fans connect with on a personal level. His charisma is amazing and he touches you when he skates because of his joy. Nathan is a technical skater and young but wow. The only way he will get the senior level artistry levels competitively internationally is to compete there and learn there. He is so close. And so close is Jason to being world champion with a quad. Otherwise for either.....

In fact, with the quad being in play this season, I would not be terribly surprised if Jason didn't even make the Worlds team :slink:
I'd be unhappy for sure, but I probably wouldn't be shocked nor inventing conspiracy theories. Feel free to bump this up if/when he repeats though ;)

Jason's not the one to worry about. Nor is Josh. The federation still likes them.

IMO Adam's international standing is down for the past 2 years because of the Brown factor. I am surprised you don't see it.

Adam's international standing is down because he hasn't been skating well and he persists with a stupid plan to start all his programs with a planned downgrade. That's really not going to help matters.

I don't think we know this. It is a fear I have if Nathan comes third (not second).

If Nathan comes third, and Jason comes fourth, Jason will go. If Nathan comes third, and Joshua comes fourth, Joshua will go. If Nathan comes third, and Max comes fourth, Nathan will go.

It's pretty easy to see which way it goes.

This has to be a new record of waiting. But I approve of the idea of Batman Josh.

My life is mostly pretty depressing; I prefer upbeat by a mile ;)

Still waiting for The Walker-as-competitive-program

I think chances are that we would see a Batman Max  before we see a Batman Josh ;).

You do know you missed a perfect opprotunity to make a Kori Ade joke here right? ...

I think Kori is great, but the thought of a Kori-Ade joke makes me laugh .

At the risk of returning to our originally scheduled Jason vs the world thread ....

One reason I appreciate Jason's showmanship so much is I am a miserable cuss in my natural state. Spousal unit says I could curdle frozen butter with my resting b**** face. :laugh2: It is not easy and not simple to project joy to the back row of the arena. I admire that which I could never do. ETA: And so I like the upbeat programs.

I had missed the Adam comment. Karne is absolutely right, Adam is his own worst enemy. Zippo to do with Jason. I loved Adam's LP last year. And I hated hated hated the quad lutz obsession. I blame Rafa, although it could just be Adam's own idea. So far this year for Adam I can't get past the black mesh.:disapp:

But at least we have skates from Jason, Adam, Max and Nathan. Wherefore art thou, Josh?

ITA with karne as well. If Josh or Jason finish behind Nathan at Nationals, they will still make the World Team. Besides, I think they now have a good chance of making it to the GPF and medal at both of their events. A shame they're competing against each other at NHK since one could knock the other out of the Final. The thing is that a good season internationally will give them more support from their Fed to go to Worlds even if are behind Nathan at Nats.

I will go against the stream and say Nathan will go to Worlds if he places top three, even if Jason ends up fourth. USFSA wants a man with quads and decent PCS scores. As long as he is not injured and pulls off the tech content, he will go.

Honestly if Nathan pulls off the content he has, he will win.

Nathan had a strong reputation nationally (and internationally) despite some relative off years. He is the only skater who has won the novice and junior titles twice. He is a jr. world medalist.

I agree with Mrs. P. If Nathan continues to be so solid and so consistent, USFS may very well put him on the world team if he places top 3, regardless of who's behind him. Especially if Jason has a rough time on the GP. Which, much as I love him, I think he probably will. :slink:
